First, CLICK HERE Then, find Microsoft Word under programs and the Microsoft Office 2013 Folder
This is what the document should look like when opened.
SAVING A WORD DOCUMENT
One of the first things you want to do is save your document. Click the FILE tab.
Next, click the SAVE AS tab This is what page the FILE tab will bring you to.
Next, click here You can save your document in several places. I typically choose to save under MY DOCUMENTS tab. To find more places to search, click BROWSE
Enter what you want to name the document here. I am calling it word tutorial This window should open
To save the document as something other than a word document, click this drop down menu.
CLICK HERE when you are ready to save
Here is what your saved document should look like. Note that the name is changed to word tutorial
CHANGING MARGINS
The next important thing to do is to change the margins of the document. First, click the PAGE LAYOUT tab.
Next, click MARGINS This is what the PAGE LAYOUT tab should look like.
Changing the margins to NARROW will give you more space to work and add tables if necessary
This is what your new page with NARROW margins will look like
INSERTING TABLES
First, click the INSERT tab
Next, click the TABLE tab This is what the INSERT tab should look like
Next, click INSERT TABLE
This window should open Enter how many columns and rows you would like in your table. My table will have 5 columns and 2 rows.
Then, click OK to create table
This is what your table may look like if it is 5 by 2.
The LAYOUT tab allows you to edit things such as the numbers of rows and columns
The DESIGN tab allows you to change the formatting and color of the table
ADDING PAGE NUMBERS
First, click the INSERT tab
This is what your page should look like Next, click PAGE NUMBER
You will be given several options of locations for your page number. The options include: top, bottom, page margins, or current position Within each option, you are given several formatting options
I chose the TOP OF PAGE tab with the Plain Number 3 option
This is what the page looks like after I inserted the page number You may also click DESIGN to edit the page number
INSERTING A HEADER/FOOTER
First, click the INSERT tab
If you would like a header, click the HEADER tab
Under HEADER, you are given several formatting options. I chose the Blank formatting
Click here and type your header This is what my page looks like after I chose blank formatting under the HEADER tab
I put Word tutorial as my header NOTE: Whatever you put as your header will continue on each page unless you select either of the first two options under the DESIGN tab
The same process as shown in last five slides for header can be repeated for a footer, EXCEPT you will select the FOOTER TAB
INSERTING PICTURES
First, click the INSERT tab
Then, select the PICTURES icon
Then, this window should appear
Select what picture you want Then, click INSERT
Your picture should then appear on your page Also, You can resize the picture by holding down your mouse and dragging the corners or sides.
As you can see, I made the picture smaller by dragging the corners.
Finally, you can edit the picture so that it has effects by clicking the FORMAT tab.
I selected the Reflected Rounded Rectangle format for my picture
PERFORMING SPELL CHECK
First, click the REVIEW tab
Then, click the SPELLING & GRAMMAR icon
Then, this window will appear if you have misspelled words. You can either click: ignore, ignore all, add, change, or change all.
This window will appear once spell check is finished
SPACING AND INDENTATION
To edit spacing or indentation, click on this icon under the HOME- PARAGRAPH tab.
This window should appear
Or you can manually put in the type of spacing you want To choose a type of spacing click this drop down menu arrow
Press the OK button when you have chosen your line spacing
This is what single line spacing looks like
Or you can manually edit the indentation To edit indentation click this drop down menu.
After you ve chosen the type of indentation, press OK. I chose hanging indentation
