uprint - Xerox 5638/5655 (black & white) Log In / Out Log out of the device once you are finished using it. Interrupt Need to use the device urgently? Use this to pause the current job. Clear all Resets the device to the default settings. Stop Stops current job. (Note: if you have already released a print job, you will still be charged for the entire job.) Start Starts the copy, fax or scan to email. Features Displays the main menu. Job Status Displays the job queue/status. Useful if you are wondering why your job hasn t printed out. Tip: If the device is in power save mode (the Energy Saver light glows), wake it up by tapping the touch screen. Log In Choose from one of the following two methods [Resource account users must use method 2]: 1. Place your McGill ID Card against the uprint sticker on the device. Enter your McGill Password if prompted. 2. Press the Keyboard Access button, then enter the following: OR UserID: enter your McGill Username (jane.smith@mcgill.ca) or Short Username (jsmith6). Password: your McGill password. Don t Forget to Log Out when finished using the device: 1. press the Log In/Out button on the Control Panel 2. confirm by pressing the Logout button on the touch screen If you do not log out, users could charge copies to your assigned FOAPAL(s).
Copy 1. Load documents face-up in document feeder or face-down in the top RIGHT hand corner of the plate glass. 2. If you are charging the copies to a FOAPAL other than your default, you must press Custom Services > Print Release > Account on the touch screen. Select the FOAPAL you wish to use. Press Exit. 3. Press Copy on the touch screen. 4. Choose any Copying Options you might want (see below). 5. Enter the number of copies on the keypad and press Start. Advanced Copying Options Reduce/Enlarge: If your text is cut off, use this setting to shrink your document to fit on a page. 100% produces copies that match the size of your original document. Auto% lets the device choose to reduce or enlarge your document. More displays a list of commonly used Reduce/Enlarge settings. Paper Supply / Select paper size: Auto Paper lets the device to choose the paper tray for your copy job. OR... pick which tray to use as a source. 2-Sided Copying: Depending on your original documents and your required output, you can select: 1-1 Sided Copy: 1 sided pages to 1 sided paper (Default). 1-2 Sided Copy: 1 sided pages to double-sided paper. 2-2 Sided Copy: 2 sided pages to double-sided paper. 2-1 Sided Copy: 2 sided pages to 1 sided paper. *If desired, use the additional tabs to refine your copy job. 2
E-Mail (Scan) 1. Load documents face-up in document feeder or face-down in the top RIGHT hand corner of the plate glass. 2. Press E-mail on the touch screen. 3. By default, the From... and To... fields will be filled in with your McGill email address. If you are logged in with a resource account, you may need to change the To... field to an appropriate email address. 4. To email the scan to others, press To..., CC... or BCC..., enter their email address, then press Add. You can either enter the full email address, or type part of their name to find and add McGill students, staff or faculty members. 5. Press Done once you have added all recipients. 6. To send the scan, press Start. 7. Once the scan has been sent, the device will return to the Email screen. Sending multiple pages in one email: 1. First, make sure that you fill out your recipient list by using the steps above. 2. Click on the Options tab > Build Job. 3. Select On > press Save. 4. Press the green Start button on the keypad to scan the page. Repeat this step for every page you want to scan, keeping in mind that there is a maximum file size of 10mb per scan. 5. When finished, click the Build Job Controls button at the far right of the screen. 6. Select End Build Job. Your scan will now be sent. The Build Job option will stay enabled as long as you are logged in to the device. To disable it: 1. Click on the Options tab > Build Job. 2. Select Off > press Save. 3
Fax 1. Load documents face-up in document feeder or face-down in the top RIGHT hand corner of the plate glass. 2. Press Fax on the touch screen. 3. If you are faxing a document within McGill to a number that begins with 398, you only need to enter the last 4 digits of their fax number. Otherwise, use the keypad to enter 9, then the fax number. If you need to, use the Dialing Characters... button on the touch screen to enter special characters. 4. Choose any Faxing Options you might want (see below). 5. Press Start. Advanced Faxing Options Added Fax Features tab > Fax Sending Features lets you: Add a cover letter to your fax. Delay the start time of a fax. Split or shrink a large fax. Image Adjustment: Image quality lets you lighten or darken the Fax you are planning to send, and adjust the quality. Added Fax Features tab > Fax Sending Features: Build Job lets you program, scan and then send multiple pages in one Fax. Useful for when you can t use the document feeder. 4
Custom Services > Print Release Release your print jobs at any uprint device on campus! 1. If you are charging the copies to a FOAPAL other than your default, you must press the Account button, then select the FOAPAL you wish to use. 2. Select the job you wish to print and then press Print. Select a job to confirm that the cost and number of pages is accurate. Delete: select a job to delete it. Jobs stay in your print job list for 48 hours if not deleted manually. Print All: print all the jobs belonging to you. This list may include jobs that you many not want (accidentally sent to the queue, etc.), so be sure and check the job list before using it. 3. Press Exit to return to the main menu. * If you use McGill s VPN, you can also send jobs to print from home and release them on campus. 5
Troubleshooting - Quick Solutions Need help? Job didn t print out? Check for stuck / held jobs: If a particular paper tray is out of paper when you release a print job, you may not get a warning, and your job will not print out. Click on the Job Status button, then select the Active Jobs tab. If a job is listed as held, click on it, and it should provide details on how to resolve it. You can always press C on the keypad to cancel a job. Error message will not clear: If the error is concerning a paper jam, ensure that all paper is removed from the appropriate area and that there are no hidden or small pieces left behind. Punched paper holes are on the wrong side: Ensure that the punched paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray; the holes should be on the left for Trays 1-4, and on the right for the Bypass tray. Pages in the set are not stapled: Ensure that the paper tray guides are locked into position against the paper. On the Basic Copying tab, select the Staple option. When copying, pages are blank: Verify that the originals are being placed on the RIGHT side of the Document Glass next to the green arrow. Device still not working? Locate the serial number: Before contacting the ICS Service Desk, make sure you have the serial number of the Xerox device. The serial number can be found in one of two locations: The uprint information sticker located at the front of every uprint device. Click on the Machine Status button on the Control Panel. The serial number appears on the Machine Information tab. Use Minerva to: Review uprint charges, view or rearrange your FOAPALs on the Account screen, and enable the password prompt after swiping your McGill ID card (for added security).
