I QUICK GUIDE Starfish is a very robust system and this document covers some tips and best practices to enhance your experience. One of the first things you should do is log in and get familiar with the interface and navigating the different screens. LOGIN TO STARFISH Go to: http://starfish.pace.edu Login using your Pace University username and password. YOUR PROFILE PROFILE OVERVIEW & BIOGRAPHY Some of your profile, such as your photo and contact information, is imported directly from Banner. 1. Click on your name in the Top Navigation bar and select the Institutional Profile tab. 2. Edit your Phone and add an Alternate Email address to opt into text messages. Select the Both radio button to receive email at both accounts. 3. Add information to the General Overview and My Biography sections to let students know a bit more about you. This information will appear to students who can make appointments with you in Connect. 4. Click the Submit button to save your changes.

PROFILE DEFAULT LOGIN PAGE One of the first suggestions is a simple way to make Starfish more convenient by changing your default login page. This is a quick and easy change that eliminates a couple of clicks and get you right to your students Log in to Starfish Click on your name in the top right hand corner - You should now be on the Profile Preference screen and the Institutional Profile tab Click on the Login Page dropdown menu and we suggest you select Students -> My Students.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS REPORT One of the most important elements of Starfish is the Academic Progress Reports. To take full advantage of this feature to have a few tips to remember and best practices. The Academic Progress Report is distributed three times a semester. The 4 th week, the 8 th week and the week after Thanksgiving break. First keep in mind that if you just submit the report without changing anything, by default you are reporting you have no concerns at this time. RAISING A FLAG AT ANYTIME If that changes, and you have concerns prior to the next Academic Progress Report, you can raise a flag at any time. Faculty/Advisors and others have the ability to raise flags and/or submit kudos on students at any point in the semester. Click on the Student s name anywhere in the system - This open the Students Folder You would then click on the desired tracking item button with the plus sign. Flag, Referral, To-Do, Kudo, 1. Click on the button of the tracking item desired. Flag, Kudo, Referral, To-Do, Message and Notes.

2. Select the FLAG or KUDO in the pop-up window then enter your COMMENT 3. Click Submit NOTE: Once you click Submit the flag or item is added to the students file. Notifications are sent to the students for Academic, Financial and injury flags. As part of our recommended. Clearing a flag or closing the loop allows others to know when an issue has been resolved to your satisfaction. You should clear or close any flags that have been resolved when you are in Starfish completing the Academic Progress Reports at minimum. NOTE: This second option to raise a flag, allows you to select multiple students so that you can open the same flag for all the selected students, including comments at one time or for one individual student if you would like. Select STUDENTS then the My Students sub-tab 1. Check the box next to the student(s) name.

2. Click on the button of the tracking item desired. Flag, Kudo, Referral, To-Do, Message and Notes. Use the CONNECTION drop down menu to filter by your ROLE or COURSE 3. Select the FLAG or KUDO in the pop-up window then enter your COMMENT 4. Click Submit In an effort to keep Starfish up to date and stable, we need your assistance in close any open tickets. During the time you are logging in to submit the Mid-Term Academic Progress Report and the Final Academic Progress Report, we suggested that you use this time to close the loop or clear any open flag or challenges to those calls CLEARING A FLAG One of the most important aspects of Starfish the ability to identify students at risk. With this ability comes a need to close the loop or to periodically clear the open flags in the system.

LOGIN TO STARFISH Go to the: http://starfish.pace.edu Login using your Pace University username and password. Select the STUDENTS then the TRACKING sub-tab (See BEST PRACITCES to set this as your default page) You will see a list of tracking items for your students, identified which flag you want to clear. Hover over or click the FLAG ICON then select CLEAR. Enter a COMMENT answering why the flag is being cleared. This is beneficial for record keeping and for other staff who have access to view student flags. Hover over any ICON in Starfish to get pop-up window. Then Click Submit. The flag and it will no longer appear as an active. To review flags that you have cleared, simply return to the Tracking sub-tab and sort for Active and Resolved items in the View sorting bar. *Note: With multiple instructors, advisors, and service providers having the ability to assist the student. Some flags will remain active all semester but this does not mean the student has not received assistance. All flags will be cleared at the end of the semester.

CLEARING A FLAG FOR MULTIPLE STUDENTS AT ONCE SELECT THE STUDENTS TAB ON THE TOP OF THE PAGE (See BEST PRACITCES document to set this as your default page) STUDENT LISTING (Roster view) Once you click on the Students tab you will get a listing on your students. You then must click on the Tracking tab on the second row of navigation tabs. TRACKING ITEMS Once you click on the Tracking tab you will get a listing students that have flags raised. This is a listing of all of the students you can see in various views. SELECT ALL OF THE STUDENT(S) Once you are on the Tracking items screen you click to check the box to the left of the student s name. You have a few different options above the students name (Resolve, Comment, Assign, Flag, Referral, To-Do, Kudo) Select Resolve to clear the Flag(s). Once you click Resolve you will get a pop-up window. In this window you enter your comments in the appropriate box and then click Submit. You have now successfully Cleared your open flag or Closed the Loop.
