NZQF NQ Ref 0357 Version 6 Page 4 of 8 other standard-setting bodies whose unit standards are included in the qualification: NZQA 1 purpose This qualification is designed to replace the New Zealand Certificate in Architectural Draughting. It is theoretical in nature, and intended to give people credited with the qualification the skills and knowledge required of a capable technician by the industry. These skills include establishing a design brief, presenting preliminary designs, developing building concepts and preparing working drawings. Skills applicable within the wider construction industry include developing health and safety plans, quality assurance plans and construction methodologies for construction projects. Candidates are required to choose 10 credits from the communication skills subfield to enhance their skills for dealing with clients. The choice enables them to select unit standards that meet their workplace requirements. The unit standards contained within the construction technology domain in this qualification are utilised by other areas of the construction industry including the Quantity Surveying (National Diploma in Quantity Surveying) [Ref: 0358] and Construction Management sector (National Diploma in Construction Management) [Ref: 0356]. It is hoped that the understanding of other disciplines as well as the ability to attain knowledge that is transferable within the wider construction industry will promote greater understanding between sectors and allow individuals greater career flexibility. 2 regulations for the qualification 2.1 entry information for programmes of education and training assessed against the unit standards in the qualification Open. 2.2 summary of qualification requirements This qualification will be awarded to people credited with all the unit standards in the compulsory section and a minimum of 10 credits from the elective section.

NZQF NQ Ref 0357 Version 6 Page 7 of 8 5 transition arrangements 5.1 non National Qualifications Framework transition The National Diplomas in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, and Architectural Technology were registered in August 1998 as replacements for the New Zealand Certificates in Quantity Surveying, Building, and Architectural Draughting. The transition period for the replaced certificates to this qualification expired in December 2002. People who have completed the requirements of the replaced certificates have until December 2004 to apply for their award. Anyone who thinks that they have been disadvantaged by the transition process should, in the first instance, contact the ITO (see details below). 5.2 National Qualifications Framework transition Version 5 was issued in April 2003 to reflect the Architectural Technology, Construction Management, and Quantity Surveying Theory unit standard review. Changes to structure and content level of qualification has increased from 5 to 6 as a result of an increase in level of some of the unit standards contained in the qualification; the total level 5 credits has decreased from 245 to 135; and the total level 6 credits has increased from 10 to 120; expiring unit standard 9673 has been deleted from the compulsory section. Version 4 was issued in March 2002 in order to update the transition arrangements. Version 3 was issued in December 1999 following its review. Unit 10044 was removed and the total credits for the qualification increased from 246 to 275 as a result of an increase in credit value for some reviewed unit standards. People who are already engaged in training for earlier versions of this qualification may either complete the requirements for those versions or transfer to this version.

NZQF NQ Ref 0357 Version 6 Page 8 of 8 All versions of this qualification will be recognised by the Design and Construction Consultants Industry Training. Any version of a unit standard contained within this qualification, which retains its original unit standard identification number, will continue to meet the requirements of this qualification. It is the intention of the Design and Construction Consultants Industry Training that these transition arrangements are fair, and do not disadvantage any existing candidate. Anyone who thinks that they have been disadvantaged by the transition process should, in the first instance, contact: Design and Construction Consultants Industry Training PO Box 40010 UPPER HUTT Telephone 04 528 8793 Facsimile 04 528 9341 E-mail tina@qualifications.co.nz Comments to: Design and Construction Consultants Industry Training Qualification Revision PO Box 160 WELLINGTON by 30 April 2007. Please Note: Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can offer programmes of education and training assessed against unit standards. Accredited providers assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those unit standards.
