Constituency 5

Partners to create the research e-infrastructure 6

Vision Researchers, instructors, and students work together simply and effectively with the aid of ICT

Two result areas Network infrastructure A hybrid fixed-wireless network as the basis for all collaboration, providing efficient, unlimited data transport Core services: IP, bandwidth on demand, eduroam Collaboration infrastructure a pioneering collaboration environment that seamlessly connects systems, services, tools, and people Core services: SURFconext, SURFfederatie, SURFteams, resource broker 8 SURFnet. We make innovation work

SURFnet6: the hybrid network Over 11.000 km dark fiber, into the connected institutions Congestion-free internet connectivity 1 and 10 Gbit/s IPv4 and IPv6 Unicast and multicast Lightpaths Cross Border Fibers 9

SURFnet7 ambition - A new generation network, with a step improvement in capacity and flexibility - Lightpath service made scalable and user-controlled - Enabling Dynamic Services: middleware for a secure and user-friendly integration of ICT infrastructure components - Heterogeneous network access, including mobile and wireless - Encourage advanced use cases - Knowledge made generally available 10

SURFnet7: the Scalable, Flexible Hybrid Network SURFnet provides both fixed and dynamic services Institution Institution Application Application Application Application Application Application Routed IP (Layer 3) Service Next Gen Ethernet (Layer 2) Service Bandwidth Bandwidth 11 Layer 3 service (IP) Layer 2 service (Ethernet) Layer 0/1 service (Lambda) Optical Transport (Layer 0/1)

SURFconext A next generation collaboration infrastructure that creates new opportunities to collaborate online based on a combination of applications from different providers. Researchers, educators and students wish to select the tools that best fit their online collaboration needs. Institutions and virtual organizations struggle with the integration of self-hosted services with commercial cloud services and service providers seek for ways to make their services easily accessible for users in higher research and education. SURFconext offers interesting clues to facilitate these needs. 12

Collaboration infrastructure - Integrate and extend SURFfederatie, SURFconext and SURFteams - Connect services to SURFconext together with SURFdiensten 13 SURFnet. We make innovation work
