Dropbox Page 1 of 10 Dropbox includes a number of functions for managing the submission of assignments including: Create categories of dropbox folders, like Quizzes or Discussions. Associate the submitted assignments with grade items that appear in the gradebook. Check for plagiarism. Associate grading rubrics to the assignment. Create and attach restrictions on the dropbox. Provide feedback and grades to the student. Creating a Dropbox Folder Step 1. Log into your course, select Assessments, then select Dropbox from the list. Step 2. If this course shell is new (not copied from a previous D2L class), the list of Dropbox Folders will be empty. Select New Folder to start building dropboxes.

Page 2 of 10 Step 3. The Properties tab of New Folder will appear. After entering a folder name, the following properties may be set. Originality Check - When you enable originality checking, an options area appears at the bottom of the Edit Folder page. Here you can enable detailed Originality Reports for dropbox submissions and adjust options that control end user visibility and report frequency. Folder Type Individual or Group Individual Users submit their own files and are assessed individually. Group - Any member of a group can submit files to a group folder. Group members are given a common grade. Category Choose an existing dropbox category to associate with this new dropbox folder, or create a new category on the fly. When creating the new category, enter the category name and select Save. Grade Item Choose an existing grade item to associate with assignments submitted to the dropbox, or create a new grade item on the fly. See the document Managing Grades to learn more about grade items. Out Of - If entered, this value will override that of the associated Grade Item.

Page 3 of 10 Rubrics - An existing grading rubric may be associated with the dropbox, or a new rubric can be created on the fly. Instructions if entered, these will be visible to the student when they enter a dropbox. Attached Files you may attach a document or record an audio file that the student can access when they enter a dropbox. Submission Options These control whether assignments can be submitted more than once, and whether all submissions are kept. Step 4. Select Save and Close to save the new Dropbox Folder.

Page 4 of 10 Set Availability and Release Conditions for a Dropbox folder Dropbox Availability permits you to the set Start and End Dates that determine when the student may access the dropbox folder. In addition, you can set a unique Due Date that is different from the dropbox end date. Dropbox Release Conditions allow you to associate a dropbox folder with other items in Learning Environment. You can for example require that users meet some criteria, such as reading a set of lecture notes in the Content tool, before they can submit their work to a dropbox folder. Setting Dropbox Availability Step 1. For the dropbox you want to edit, click on the dropdown arrow and select Edit Folder from the action menu. Step 3. Select the Restrictions tab on the Edit Folder screen.

Step 4. In the Availability section, set Start, Due and End Date as desired. Page 5 of 10 Note: You may enter a Due Date for assignments submitted to this dropbox that is different from the end date, the End Date specifies the last date the dropbox will be available to accept assignments. Creating Dropbox Release Conditions Step5. In the Release Conditions section, select Create and Attach A Release Condition establishes when a topic or activity like a dropbox or quiz (or any other activity) will be available to a student. The condition defines what other activity must be completed before the dropbox will be accessible. For instance, if the student must first watch a video before they can access the dropbox to submit an assignment, the release condition can be structured to manage this rule.

Page 6 of 10 Step 6. Select the Release Condition Type, specifying what type of condition must be met. Step 7. Select the particular topic that must be viewed and select Create.

Step 8. The release condition will appear. Select Save and Close. Page 7 of 10 The release condition icon will appear next to the folder, indicating that there is a release condition associated with the dropbox folder. Configuring Dropbox Folder Originality Check Options Originality Check will monitor dropbox submissions to identify suspected plagiarism. It does so by comparing the content of each submission to an online database of original content. You can generate reports showing the originality of the submission, share the results with the students, and set the criteria for how and when the originality check is done. In Edit Folder, select the Originality Check checkbox if not already selected.

Page 8 of 10 The Originality Check Options will appear at the bottom of the screen. Select Show Advanced Originality Checking Options In the expanded section that appears, you can configure how Originality Check functions for your course. Note that the GradeMark tool is made available. GradeMark permits you to markup documents submitted to the Dropbox as you grade and provide feedback to the student.

Assessing Dropbox Submissions Page 9 of 10 The Dropbox Folders page provides a summary of the Total Files, Unread Files, Flagged Files, and Due Date for each dropbox folder. Click on a folder to navigate to its Folder Submissions page to view submitted files. Step 1. Click on the pulldown arrow under the Submissions heading to select a sort option, options include: Show Everyone Users with submissions Users without submissions Users with preview submissions Users with graded unpublished submissions Step 2. After selecting your desired option, click on the search button (indicated by the magnifying glass).

Page 10 of 10 Step 3. Scroll down to view your search results and select Evaluate next to the student that you would like to assess. Step 4. On the Evaluate Submission page you can: View, download, and markup the submitted file(s) View the Turnitin originality report for the submitted file(s) View Folder Submission History for the student Enter a Score for the assignment Provide Feedback via text, file or audio Publish current feedback or save as draft to be published later You can also go to the Next Student or return to the Folder Submissions page. Note: If you are using rubrics, students submitting to a dropbox folder from Content can view the rubric before submission and even after the evaluations are published.
