ALL AXES WITH LINEAR MOTORS MULTISTATION IS THE MOST SUITABLE UNIT FOR ANY POSSIBLE DRILLING/ROUTING APPLICATION MULTISTATIONO 2

MULTISTATION MULTISTATION is the most recent Pluritec modular microdrilling/routing machina that, with its new CNC (PCB Control), offers the following advantages: Flexibility Accurancy and repeatability Speed and productivity ALL AXES WITH LINEAR MOTORS MULTISTATION, in addition to the modular design, reinforces its high flexibility thanks to the new Control unit developed by Pluritec. Each module (station) is an independent machine able to perform different jobs (with different part-programs, S&M and Excellon format) continuously, without stopping the machine. Depending on customer and production needs, MULTISTATION can be configured from one (1) up to six (6) modules, all of them connected to a network node and managed by a single interface: PCB Control. The large capacity tool holder (drum), starting from 336 tool station for the basic configuration, and up to 840 as an option, ensures that no time is wasted by the operator for loading and/or replacing tools. The operator is greatly helped by an exclusive off-line software package (stand alone) for the release of groups of part-programs (job list) for each module and the optimization of drill bits in terms of diameter, number and life. 3

Basement A cast structure machine basement assures high stability to environmental change, stiffness and stoutness. Linear motors The X and Y axes are driven by linear motors and the positioning is ensured by linear scales with 1 micron (0.0393 mils) resolution. High precision linear guides mounted on X,Y and Z axes, allow fast and accurate axes movements. Laser interferometer for inspection and calibration During machine assembly, accurate laser evaluations of parallelism, flatness, squareness on linear guides and mechanical systems are performed. This is a guarantee for high machine accuracy since its early construction. At the end of manufacturing process a further laser calibration is executed in order to verify both, accuracy and machine specifications. 4

MULTISTATION Spindle / Z-axis The Z axis of machine is equipped with a synchronous linear motor with excellent ratio of power to weight. Wear and maintenance free, no moving cables, symmetrical design and high efficiency. Thanks to the motor efficiency and the accuracy in driving the spindle the machine is more productive and more accurate when drilling with depth control system. DRILLING AND DRILLING/ROUTING SPINDLE Various configurations are available: 1 full range high speed drilling spindle (160 or 180 or 200 krpm synchronous) 1 microdrilling spindle (250 krpm) 1 drilling/routing spindle (80 or 125 krpm or 60 krpm synchronous) The flexibility of a real drilling/routing head, including all relevant options, is unique on this machine, as well as the possibility of combining Drilling and Drilling/Routing modules on the same line. Tool magazine It is based on the well known rotary drum able to hold up to 840 tools. The tools (collarless or collared) are located on strips and can be supplied by the drill bit manufacturer. In this way tool handling is no longer needed, thus avoiding possible drill breakage and/or injuries to the operator s finger. The strips may be of the Pluritec type (standard) with 14 tool stations or the Europen type (option) with 11 tool station. 5

Tool change One or two grippers (option) provides the handling of tool change operations between the magazine and the spindle. The doble gripper system is independently moving and allows a much faster tool change cycle. A chain system providing 1300 tools (on Pluritec strips) is located on the right side of machine. Replacement of the strips (tools) is executed without stopping the machine so granting high and uninterrupted drilling autonomy. Laser station The automation level of MULTISTATION EVOLUTION LZ, as well as the quality of drilling/routing, requires in the basic machine configuration a laser device for the following check: measurement of drill bit height, diameter and runout during every tool change operation. Contact Drilling MULTISTATION is equipped with the Contact Drilling system that allows both, broken bit detection and controlled depth drilling. BROKEN BIT DETECTION Thanks to the contact drilling system, any breakage/chipping of small diameter drill bits can be detected in real time. DEPTH CONTROL DRILLING It brilliantly answers the needed depth accuracy on multilayer panels. 6

MULTISTATION Automatic bush exchange MULTISTATION can be equipped with the special swinging pressure foot providing automatic bush exchange. This system allows high accuracy to be obtained in microdrilling due to the small bush hole diameter which creates the ideal vacuum flow for chip evacuation and a better pressure (force) on the area of the panel to be drilled. Stack locking The working table is equipped with a reference V-block and a slot with sliding bar for the secure and reliable locking of the stacks. With the loading/unloading system the stacks are loaded by means of the Y-axis movements and the 2 centerline pins of the stacks. Working area A very large working area allows the processing of panels of any common size: 630 x 765 mm (24.8 x30.12 ). 7

CCD camera System for automatic alignment of single stack after the loading on the table. This provides the ultimate in perfect drilling of multilayer stacks, so eliminating any error due to the tooling plate. Moreover, the vision system allows the processing of particular applications, such as the drilling of holes related to the position of specified targets (i.e. BGA products) and the routing of patterns related to the position of specified references. Bar code MULTISTATION can be equipped with a bar code reader for the automatic reading (and downloading) of the drilling programs. This ensures high flexibility of the various/different jobs to be processed. The bar code reader can be integrated with the Job list management to obtain a fully automated system. Flexibility Thanks to its flexibility and efficiency a single head machine is the solution to panel tests and the PCB prototypes, as well as to small/medium size lots. 8

MULTISTATION Modularity There is the possibility of a modular expansion from a single module up to 6 modules; it is the unique feature of the MULTISTATION concept, thus allowing the creation of a drilling cell. Moreover, some drilling cells can be managed as flexible manufacturing lines for a total versatility in drilling capacity expansion. The standard restyled MULTISTATION (equipped with S&M CNC 48.00) can by completely integrated with the existing Multistation modules in field, while the MULTISTATION (equipped with PCB Control) can be integrated only mechanically. Applications High accuracy holes can be drilled according to specified reference pads position on BGA circuits. The holes are drilled taking into account the scaling and the alignment errors of the pads. A very accurate controlled depth routing can be performed on particular application such as BGA circuits. Controlled depth pockets are routed on a multilayer board in order to allow the insertion of components. Very accurate flatness of the pocket is required in order to provide a suitable thermal dissipation of the component. Mapping The mapping function is normally used when is required to have the drilling or routing depth referred to the surface where the panel to process is placed. It is used, for example, in presence of panels with cavity where a microchip must be located; in this case, in fact, it is important to have the same thickness from the bottom side to the processed side (drilled or routed) of the panel. The mapping function enables to detect the surface of the working table or a desired surface where the panel to process have to be placed. The machine is equipped with the Contact drilling system that measures the needed surface with very high accuracy. 9

Control unit - Easy to use MULTISTATION is equipped with PCB Control, the new Pluritec CNC. It has been developed starting from Pluritec experience in PCB manufacturing. Its multiprocessing function can manages up to 32 axes. The flexibility and simplicity of use is warranted by a User Friendly interface that reduces and simplified the time to production process. PCB Control ensures the total compatibility with the major common programming languages Sieb&Meyer and Excellon. On a joblist both of them can be processed without stopping the machine for software loading. Easy to use in any country 10

MULTISTATION AUTOMATION Each module is equipped with an independent loading/unloading system. It consists of a trolley that provides 18 shelves handling stacks with different size and related to different part-programs. A special function, loading/unloading no stop, allows the machine to work continuously by removing and replacing the stacks from the trolley. The flexibility, the multiple available features and the well known performances, make MULTISTATION the best drilling/routing unit available on the market. 13
