INTRODUCTION This manual is intended to provide the necessary information regarding configuration and usage of the PXM-MiniPCIe SUMIT-ISM module. WinSystems maintains a Technical Support Group to help answer questions not adequately addressed in this manual. Contact Technical Support at (817) 274-7553, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM Central Standard Time (CST). FEATURES SUMIT Interface Revision 1.5 MiniPCIe Full and Half size PCIe mini card support PCIe and USB 2.0 interface support through SUMIT AB Multiple antennae support (via 2 RF connectors) SIM card socket Power Onboard power supplies USB 2 USB 2.0 ports Overcurrent and inrush protection for each port Automatic USB signal lane shifting LED status provided for each port Industrial Operating Temperature -40 C to 85 C Form Factor 3.6 x 3.8 (90 mm x 96 mm) Standard RoHS compliant PC/104 and SUMIT expansion connectors Activity status LEDs on-board PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse System The PXM-MiniPCIe is a SUMIT-ISM module that supports both a MiniPCIe card and two USB ports. It provides expansion of additional functions such as 802.11a/g wireless, WLAN, and othe rhigh performance functions developed for mobile computing environments. The two USB 2.0 expansion ports support tethered aplications such as storage, imaging, and video, as well as slower dvices such as mouse, keyboard, floppy disk, USB keys, etc. 100422 PRODUCT MANUAL PXM-MiniPCIe 11
FUNCTIONALITY MiniPCIe Cards The MiniCard is a small form factor board used to implement the PCI Express interface on notebook computers for additional I/O functions. The PCI Express MiniCard socket supports two primary system bus interfaces: PCI Express x1 and USB 2.0, and provides connections to many other functions. RF Connectors Two right angle RF connectors are on the PXM-MiniiPCIe board s edge, enabling convenient connection to the MiniPCIe card from a regular coax cable from an external antenna. Status Indicators Three inidividual LEDs provide a visual status of the installed wireless card s function. User Indentity Module (UIM) Connector A UIM contains parameters necessary for the WWAN device s operation in a wireless wide area radio environment. The W_DISABLE# signal is supported to disable radio operation. This signal is wired to a connector on the edge of the PXM-MiniPCIe module. 100422 PRODUCT MANUAL PXM-MiniPCIe 12
POWER CONNECTOR REFERENCE The +5V input power and ground is supplied from the SUMIT A and B, and PC/104 connectors, located at J1, J2, and J16, respectively. There is a +5V to 3.3V regulator and a +5V to 1.5V regulator on-board to supply power to MiniPCIe cards. Power is applied to the PXM-MiniPCIe via the connector at J15. D2 (Power LED +5VSB), D1 (Power LED +5V) Visual Index Visual Index LEDs located at D2 (Power LED +5VSB), D1 (Power LED +5V) indicate the state of the system. NOTE: D2 and D1 will always be illuminated during normal operation. When using an ATX power supply and only D2 is illuminated, the system is in suspend mode. These are terminated to an 8-pin, 2 mm connector at J8 and J9. An adapter cable CBL-356-G-1-1.0 is available from WinSystems for connection. Two additional USB ports are available for expansion on the SUMIT interface. D3- D2- D2+ D1- D0- D3+ Visual Index 100422 PRODUCT MANUAL PXM-MiniPCIe 13
PC/104 BUS INTERFACE J16 - PC/104 The PC/104 bus is electrically equivalent to the 16-bit ISA bus. Standard PC/104 I/O cards can be populated on PXM-MiniPCIe s connectors, located at J16. The interface does not support hot swap capability. The PC/104 bus connector pin definitions are provided here for reference. Refer to the PC/104 Bus Specification for specific signal and mechanical specifications.
