Bachelor of Information Technology [ Network security ] Cybercrime is a growing threat to Australian business, consumers and government. Every day, we rely on digital systems and networks to store sensitive data, communicate and transact, exposing us to the possibility of cyber attack. This has created an unprecedented demand for professionals who can secure and monitor these systems and protect personal and organisational privacy in cyberspace. Network security professionals design, configure, implement, manage and support secure computer systems, security policies and procedures. As cyber attacks and identity theft have become more sophisticated, the responsibilities of professionals in this field have increased and security specialists are now an integral part of many IT infrastructure teams. About the course The Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Security) is a three year professional degree offered by TAFE NSW Higher Education 1 that prepares you for employment as a network security specialist in this fast growing and dynamic industry. The course combines a thorough coverage of the skills and knowledge in network security using a practical hands-on approach with the development of skills such as communication, problem solving and critical thinking resulting in well-trained, analytical IT specialists. What are the entry requirements? To be eligible for admission, applicants are required to hold at least one of the following: a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent, or a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate, or a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above, or successful completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree at a higher education institution. Assumed knowledge: NSW HSC mathematics or equivalent. Applicants who do not have the recommended level of mathematics can still apply to enrol in this course, but are strongly advised to undertake a mathematics bridging program or preparatory course. What if I have previous study or experience? Credit transfer is available for specified units of competency for applicants who have successfully completed a Diploma of Information Technology (Networking), or an Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security). Previous industry experience or vendor certifications may also provide credit through recognition for prior learning (RPL). Applicants may apply for credit transfer or advanced standing at the time of application. Each year half a million people in Australia are victims of identity fraud, at a cost of $170 million. International students are eligible to apply if they have: English as their first language, or completed their secondary education in English, or completed an Australian educational qualification, or demonstrated English proficiency at a minimum IELTS level of 6.5, with a minimum level of 6 in any one band. Applications are to be lodged with the Student Administration Service Desk at Meadowbank Campus. How much will it cost? Tuition fees are currently calculated at $1000 per subject. FEE-HELP is available to eligible Australian students.
