Introduction Command Control Unit (CCU) The CCU platform is designed to provide a cost-effective SIL4 solution for Railway Applications in distributed, centralized (multi-station) or combined environments, where it acts as vital concentrator of field devices in a certain area or in an individual station of a multi-station system. General Description The CCU is based on 2oo2HR (2 out of 2 hot redundancy) type redundant architecture with vital Watch-dog. It makes use of Ethernet interfaces to CIU and RS-485 serial interfaces to FDC, these latter interfaces both with copper link and in part with remote optic fibre link. Processing units, interfacing units and all communication lines are redundant for availability. The 2oo2HR structure is physically implemented by two independent and galvanic isolated processing sections (one in Normal role and the other in Reserve role); only one of the two Sections acts as system Master, whereas the other one will act as Slave. Each section consists of a pair of processors (referred to as Replica A and Replica B) in 2oo2 architecture, operating in parallel and, when necessary, aligning via proper synchronisations. In this way input data are processed in parallel, and outputs will be correctly driven only if the results processed Replica A Replica A Normal Section Replica B Replica B Reserve Section by the two Replicas are identical, otherwise a diversity condition is present and the CCU section will be set irreversibly into safe state. Functions and Purposes CCU operates as Gateway between CIU and FDCs and runs the following tasks: Acquire from the Central Interlocking Unit the commands for the FDCs via Ethernet link; Forward commands to FDCs via RS485 serial lines and/or optic fibre lines; Acquire from FDCs the controls for CIU via RS485 serial lines and/or optic fibre lines; Forward controls to CIU via Ethernet link; Check regular system operation; Provide CIU with diagnostic information on the operating state of connections and CCU; Implement transparent hot redundancy mechanisms to Central Post and Peripheral Post; Provide the operating state of the managed devices. Innovations in comparison with previous product generations are the following: Interface to CIU is implemented via Ethernet 100 base-t instead of HDLC 2Mbps; The number of FDCs which can be driven by a CCU is 992 (124 for each serial line for a total of 8 serial lines) instead of 42 FDCs on one line of the previous Area Controller. Generic HW/SW platform may also be used for other functions like for instance Wayside Message Server (WMS) and Central Message Radio Server (CMRS). 3
Hardware From a HW point of view, the CCU Unit is based on two redundant boards: SBFE, processing board with 2oo2 fail-safe technology; ISCA, splitter board for external Ethernet connections, allowing to put two homologous Ethernet links of the redundant SBFE boards in common with a single connection towards Supervision/Central Post. 1 2 3 4 1 - ISCA module Normal Section 2 - SBFE module Normal Section 3 - SBFE module Reserve Section 4 - ISCA module Reserve Section The CCU unit consists of two pairs of SBFE-ISCA boards: one pair runs the Normal function whereas the other one runs the Reserve function. These two pairs are only provided for availability purposes. These boards come in two mounting versions, which only differ for the operating voltage. Command Control Unit (CCU) SBFE 48V - B2GD.000122 SBFE module is a CCU unit implemented with 2oo2 architecture and suitable for communicating with the WSP Vital Core. It can be used as a traditional Area Controller, i.e.: management of a Peripheral Post and communication to the Central Post, or as Station Controller : SBFE can actually perform Central Post functions for small sized stations. The new generation rack (84 TE Standard Rack) allows to host 3 pairs of Area Controllers (Normal + Reserve), for a total of 6 SBFE modules. This configuration allows to manage: 128 FDC per RS-485 serial line; 8 Area Controllers (single, in redundant pairs); 3 redundant pairs (N. CoE 3072). The SBFE module was designed as safety board with high computing capacity and connectivity with its surrounding environment (i.e.: Ethernet and RS-485). Therefore, depending on the installed SW application, module applications can be multiple (e. g.: station controller, communication gateway to SCC, etc.). The SBFE module performs the following functions: Diagnostic / configuration / software download through USB serial lines. Front panel diagnostic LED management. Watch dog refresh and test functions. Data Logging and Event Recording. Serial link speed management. Temperature sensor test and management. When used as CCU, SBFE module communicates with: 1. The I/O boards dedicated to each FDC through four asynchronous redundant RS485 lines. 2. The Central Post through two redundant Ethernet links. Front View 5
