Adequate rate of data transmission: 300-38400 Baud (mixed baud rate possible)
Features (II) Possible galvanic isolation (optocoupler) One-chip solution is available Compliance with all standards: EMC, ESD and EMI (CE mark) High safety level of data transmission and immunity to interference Line, star and tree topology
Advantages Low connection and cabling costs No licence costs It supplies the units with power The M-Bus conforms to standards EN 1434 / IEC 60870-5 Development by the M-Bus user group Used for heat, electricity, gas, water Various components can be provided: masters, repeaters, converters Modular structure Data transmission with type, unit, resolution
Segment Configuration The number of terminals (units) that can be connected to a repeater and the structure of the segments within an extended M-Bus system is determined by the type of cable and the baud rate.

M-Bus Segment M-Bus Master: the control center of an M-Bus system is formed by the M-Bus master. It consists of an M-Bus repeater connected to a normal commercially availably PC (via RS232). M-Bus Repeater: each M-Bus segment is terminated with a repeater and connects up to 250 terminals. Repeaters can be cascaded. M-Bus Converter is used to adapt physically two interfaces and to separate them galvanicly. The following conversions are available: M-Bus RS232 M-Bus RS485 M-Bus CS (20mA) M-Bus Fiber optic
M-Bus Devices M-Bus Master and M-Bus Repeater for up to 250 devices (used for large segments) M-Bus Mini-Master and M-Bus Mini-Repeater for up to 10 or 25 devices (used for small segments) Metcom T X for up to 25 devices (used for medium size segments)

Software: Siglon (I) Automated acquisition of meter data load profiles or demand values with time setting, counter reset. Client - Server architecture with multi user capability. Each terminal can be customized for each task: meter management, sales, energy supply etc. Multi utility: all energy types can be processed: gas, water, heat or electricity and... Uses standard databases (e.g. MS SQL Server) Rights management for each task (technician, dealer, sales, procurement etc.). Capable of adapting to the processes of a deregulated utility. Export of the data can be easy customized (format, contents, sequence, protocols, communication means). SIGLON helps to manage meters (manufacturer, identification number, serial number, certification period, etc.). Creation and handling of physical and virtual metering points. Future extensions supported by modular design.
