Introduction Introduction Microcat Authorisation Server (MAS) provides dealerships with concurrent licensing options. Each license option will store a pool of licenses accessible from any computer on the network. This guide is designed to assist users in installing and setting up MAS. It is recommended that a System Administrator perform the installation of MAS. This guide is divided into the following sections: Installing MAS Configuring MAS Using the MAS Controller Remotely monitoring MAS Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 2
Install Microcat Authorisation Server (MAS) Install Microcat Authorisation Server (MAS) The following requirements should be noted prior to installing MAS: A permanent Internet connection is required on the server hosting MAS. Existing MAS users must upgrade to the latest version of MAS. During the installation of MAS, the dongle drivers are installed. If the dongle is not recognised the dongle drivers may need to be manually installed from the Microcat LIVE DVD or MAS CD. The server that MAS will be installed on must meet the recommendations listed on the MAS website http://imassp.microcat.net. The server may need to be restarted. To install the MAS application and the MAS Controller on the server: 1. Navigate to the MAS directory and double click on Setup.exe. The MAS directory and installation files are available on the Microcat LIVE DVD, the MAS CD, or can be downloaded from the MAS website. 2. Select the language for installation, and click the OK button. 3. Click the Next button. 4. Accept the licence agreement, and click the Next button. You may be prompted to install the.net framework which will require the server to be restarted. 5. Select the Complete radio button, and click the Next button. 6. Click the Install button. 7. Click the Finish button. The MAS Configuration wizard will be displayed. The MAS dongle must be recognised prior to installing Microcat LIVE. Configure MAS Configure MAS Once the MAS application has been installed, the MAS Configuration wizard will be displayed. To configure MAS: 1. Select the language for configuration. 2. Click the Next button. The MAS Configuration wizard will guide you through the configuration screens listed in the left-hand navigation panel. License Options Each license option will store a pool of licenses accessible from any computer on the network. To activate the dongle: 1. Connect the MAS dongle to the appropriate computer port. 2. Select the Dongle Activation radio button. 3. Click the Next button. To activate a serial number: 1. Select the Serial Number Activation radio button. 2. Type the license serial number. Configure MAS Internet Options MAS requires a permanent Internet connection on the server hosting MAS in order for licences to be authorised. For Internet connections not using a proxy server: 1. Click the Test button to check the Internet connection. A confirmation message will be displayed. 2. Click the Next button. For Internet connections using a proxy server: 1. Select the Use a Proxy Server check box. 2. Type the IP address and the port number in the appropriate fields. 3. Type the user name and password (optional). 4. Click the Next button. If insufficient data is entered during the MAS configuration, a red Exclamation icon be displayed. Roll the mouse over the icon to view more information. may Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 5
Configure MAS Licence Manager MAS can be configured to operate with the use of Microcat only, Microcat LIVE only or Microcat and Microcat LIVE. To configure the Licence Manager: 1. Select the application you will be using with MAS: Microcat: To use Microcat only. Microcat LIVE: To use Microcat LIVE only. Microcat & Microcat LIVE: To use both Microcat and Microcat LIVE. 2. Configure MAS Licensing MAS authorises the licences that are available over the Internet and displays the licensing information in the Licensing screen. Note: The licensing information may take some time to display. To configure licensing: 1. Confirm the licence information is displayed correctly. If the licence details are not displayed correctly, click the Update button. 2. Click the Next button. Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 7
Configure MAS Microcat Users The Microcat Users screen allows Microcat user details to be added and managed and will only be displayed if a Microcat option (Microcat or Microcat & Microcat LIVE) was selected in the Licence Manager screen. Microcat LIVE users are created in the User Administration in Microcat LIVE, and do not have to be entered separately in MAS. To add a Microcat user: 1. Click the Add button. 2. Type a user name and password in the User window. 3. Select the appropriate licence type, and click the OK button. A concurrent licence can be reserved for a particular user by selecting the Reserved check box. Or, a fixed licence can be assigned to a specific IP address. Fixed licences are only available for Microcat users. 4. Click the Next button. To edit a Microcat user s details: 1. Select the user in the User Management frame and click the Edit button. 2. Edit the user's details, and click the OK button. 3. Click the Next button. Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 8
Configure MAS To remove a Microcat user: 1. Select the user in the User Management frame, and click the Remove button. 2. Click the OK button to confirm the deletion. 3. Click the Next button. Monitoring MAS can be configured to be remotely monitored by the MAS Controller. The MAS Controller can be used within the same network as MAS is installed, or off-site by a remote System Administrator. To enable remote monitoring: 1. Select the Allow Remote Monitoring of the Microcat Authorisation Server check box. 2. Select the Allow Off-site Server Monitoring check box (if required). Off-site users can be limited to use a specific IP address. 3. Click the Next button. If remote monitoring is enabled, the MAS Controller will need to be installed on the remote computer following the successful installation and configuration of MAS on the server. Configure MAS Notification MAS can be configured to send an email to specified users in the event of the MAS server becoming unable to authorise licences over the Internet. To enable email notifications: 1. Select the Allow Microcat Authorisation Server Shutdown Notification check box. 2. Click the Add button. 3. Type the user s details in the User window, and click the OK button. You must type the email address and mail server address based on your mail client. 4. Repeat the above steps to add additional users (if required). 5. Click the Next button. Completion message To complete the MAS configuration: 1. Click the Finish button. The MAS Configuration wizard will close and the MAS icon bottom right corner of the computer monitor. will be displayed in the Following the successful installation and configuration of MAS, Microcat or Microcat LIVE can be launched from a user s workstation. MAS will be detected on the LAN, and the initial screen in the application will be displayed. Use the MAS Controller Use the MAS Controller The MAS Controller is used to start, stop and monitor MAS. Messages can be sent to users, and users can be disconnected from the server. Once the MAS Controller has been installed, the MAS icon will be displayed in the bottom right corner of the computer monitor: A green MAS icon indicates MAS is running. A red MAS icon indicates MAS is not running. To access the MAS Controller, use one of the following options: Right click on the MAS icon, and select Show. Select Start > Programs > Microcat Authorisation Server > MAS Controller. Users who are currently logged on to Microcat or Microcat LIVE will be displayed in the MAS Controller window. Alternatively, right click on the MAS icon pop-up menu., and select the desired function directly from the The MAS Configuration wizard can be re-accessed at any time by selecting Configure from the MAS Controller. Use the MAS Controller Send a message from MAS To send a message to a user: 1. Select the user you wish to send the message to in the MAS Controller window. 2. Click the Message icon. 3. Type the message in the text field, and click the OK button. The message will be sent to the user. Disconnect a user from MAS To disconnect a user: 1. Select the user you wish to disconnect in the MAS Controller window. 2. Click the Disconnect icon. 3. Click the Yes button to confirm the disconnection. A message will be sent to the user advising them they have been disconnected, and that any current orders have been saved. Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 12
Remotely monitor MAS Remotely monitor MAS Installing the MAS Controller to a separate location allows MAS to be remotely monitored. MAS must first be installed and configured on the server, with the remote monitoring option selected. Note: For personal assistance, contact Customer Service. To install the MAS Controller to a separate location: 1. Access the MAS installation files and double click on Setup.exe. 2. Follow the prompts of the installer, and select Custom as the setup type. 3. In the Custom Setup screen, click the Microcat Authorisation Server drop-down menu and select not to install this feature. 4. Click the Next button, and complete the installation. The MAS Controller only will be installed, and the MAS Locator screen will now be included in the MAS Configuration wizard. Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 13
Remotely monitor MAS To configure the MAS Locator: 1. Type the address of the server on which MAS is installed in the Server Address field. Or, click the Browse icon and navigate to the server. If you are installing the MAS Controller on a different network to MAS, ensure the full server name or IP address is used. 2. Type the user name and password for the server in the appropriate fields. 3. Click the Next button, and edit the remaining configuration screens (if required). Infomedia Ltd 2007-2009 14
