Creating Postcards in Microsoft Publisher Open Publisher either from the desktop or through the Start menu. Once Publisher opens, select Postcards from the menu on the right hand side of the screen. Scroll down until you find the Postcard template for Blocks Informational Postcard. Select this template. If asked about putting business information automatically in the template for you, simply x out each time asked. Now you re ready to begin! STEP 1: Double click in the gray area. You may have to try this several times to select exactly the right location in the gray area. You will know you have clicked in the right location when the Format Auto Shape box opens and the color showing is gray. To change the color, make sure the Colors and Lines tab is selected. In the Fill box, click on the area in the Color area. You may then select the color of your choice.
You will repeat this same process for the yellow area and the red area. Again, make sure each time that you have double clicked on the right area by seeing the color appear in the Format Auto Shape box. STEP 2: Highlight the heading line. You can adjust the font, size, and even text color to your liking. While still highlighted, type in the name of one cities you are visiting. STEP 3: Highlight Your business tag line here and change it to read Wish You Were Here! Again, you may select the font, size, and text color of your choice. Keep in mind though that too many different font types can cause visual confusion for the viewer. STEP 4: Click ONCE on the word Organization. Six white dots will appear around the text and object. Press the Delete key on the keyboard. The text and object will disappear.
STEP 5: Click on Pearland ISD. Again, the six white dots will appear around those words only. Use the mouse and right click. Select Delete Object. Follow these same steps for the Primary Business Address box and the Phone box. STEP 6: Go to Insert in the top menu bar. Go down to Picture and then select From File. When the Insert Picture box appears, select Class Files from the dropdown menu. From there, select the Technology folder, Technology Lessons, City Photos. Once inside the City Photos folder you will be able to select a picture that represents the city for the current postcard. There are three picture choices for each city. You may select one, or create a collage using two or all three. Once you decide, double click on the picture to insert it. Move the picture(s) to the bottom colored area and adjust the size and location using the arrows and dots.
STEP 7: Highlight the text that begins with Place text here. Type a brief description of the city. Select the same font, or a font and size that will compliment what you have already typed. STEP 8: At the bottom of the screen you will see two pages numbered 1 and 2. Click on the #2 page. STEP 9: Highlight Pearland ISD and type your name. You may select the font and size of your choice. This will be the beginning of your return address. STEP 10: Highlight the text that begins with Primary Business Address and the 3 lines below it. Type your address here in the font and size of your choice.
STEP 13: Select Insert from the top menu and select Text Box. Your arrow will become a plus sign. Put the + against the left edge, press the left side of the mouse, holding it down, and drag a rectangular box over to the right and down to the bottom. STEP 11: Highlight all the Mailing Address lines and type the name and address of the person you are sending the postcard to. STEP 12: Select the text box where you have typed the name and address of the recipient. (The 6 white dots should appear around it.) Place the arrow on the middle left dot so that it becomes a line with arrows pointing right and left. Move the left side of the box by clicking the left side of the mouse and holding it down while you drag it to the right.
STEP 14: Place the arrow inside the upper left corner of the text box and left-click the mouse. This will give you a cursor. Begin typing a brief letter, answering the Postcard Questions in your letter. Choose the font and size you want. Follow these 14 steps for all of your postcards. When you finish with a postcard, save it to your student folder.
