1 1.Pick a profile image (165 w x 165 h px), description and board name that brand you What others are doing What types of information are people including? Creating boards People can choose which of your boards to follow have separate boards for different products / topics Should show what you are about remember to add description for EACH BOARD Where will you link? Select best category for each board Possible categories might have a pin on more than one board and put it in different categories 3 Choose a compelling cover pin for each board (often one with the most repins) and put most relevant boards at beginning Move boards by dragging & dropping 16 Changing cover 1. Click on board; then click on edit board Changing cover: Move image around to determine what part shows when people visit your board 2. Click on Change Cover 3. Scroll to find desired cover; save changes 17 3

4 1.Get started with a board as a secret board with at least 5 pins before making it public Consider a secret board until you have 5 pins so your board appears filled (secret boards found at bottom of your Pinterest page) Change to public after you have sufficient pins. NOTE: Can t make secret again! 5 1.Quickly create the perfect size for long, rectangular, mobilefriendly pins Vertical collages becoming popular food.unl.edu To get a vertical pin for a Pinterest board, many people are starting to upload a separate vertical version of an image from a website to Pinterest and then link to the website from Pinterest Upload an image from your device For blogs, pin to exact page of a blog article, not home page Add searchable Description might include identifying hashtag for organizational pins for example we often use #NebExt for Nebraska Extension Add exact (NOT a shortened URL) web address by Source 4

Canva features Upload photo Upload photo from computer, drag from uploads, pull by corners until desired size fills template Canva features for photo editing Decide how much of photo will be used in the template The part not used is automatically cut off and image is perfect size Click around and try them out You might fill only part of template and leave space to add a text overlay in the blank section You can add a background color to the top if desired 6 1.Use text overlay on pins (remains constant if your pin description gets changed) 7

Add plain text or a design text Change text size plus vertical / horizontal spacing with text spacing option Change, type, size or color of text Click on drop down arrow for additional options Use easy-to-read font Change design colors and words as desired by clicking on image Examples of ways to do Canva text overlays You may need to adjust size of letters slightly More examples of Canva text overlays ColorZilla.com eye dropper (& more) to match colors and more in letters and background colors Chrome and Firefox extension / add-on 8

What if there s a great webpage and nothing to pin? What to do if there is no webpage photo same as uploading a special vertical pin Upload an image from your device Add searchable Description might include identifying hashtag for organizational pins for example we often use #NebExt for Nebraska Extension Might practice this first by setting up a secret board (found at bottom of your Pinterest page) Then, simply pin to desired board Add exact (NOT a shortened URL) web address by Source 7 1.Make pins more valuable to your organizational identity Include logo / web address You must own the copyright to a photo before you put your logos, etc. on it It is not OK to put your logo on an image in the public domain unless you own copyright Make it tasteful and incorporate into design 9

Examples Examples 8 1.Set up Pinterest analytics Must join Pinterest as a business (FREE) https://business.pinterest.com Set up new account or convert existing account to business Do you qualify for a business account and analytics? https://business.pinterest.com/en/business-terms-service Who has business accounts? Read Pinterest Business Terms of Service to see if you qualify. For example are you in a position where you can form a binding contract with Pinterest? Can set up through a blog if you can t claim ownership of a University website. For example, WordPress stats will be for blog / website pins plus all other pins Red check indicates personal ownership to verify a account 10

9 Use Pinterest Analytics to tailor your pins Accessing Pinterest analytics 2. Click on Analytics 3 areas of analytics What you ll see in Pinterest profile Clicks Visits to website from Pinterest for last 7, 14 or 30 days or a customized time period Most clicked pins from last 30 days Boards with most clicked pins from last 30 days Learn repinners by clicking on your most clicked pins in Pinterest profile Clicks What you ll see in Your Audience/Demographics Avg. monthly viewers: The average number of impressions of your Pins each month. Avg. monthly engaged: The average number of people who engaged (repinned, clicked, etc.) with your Pins each month. Impressions: Number of times a Pin from your profile has appeared on Pinterest home feeds, category feeds and search. A viewer is anyone who sees a Pin from your profile on their feeds. 11

13 7.Create shared and secret boards Benefits of shared group organizational boards More visibility as information appears on several Pinterest accounts A person s face associated with the pin Helps spread information Pin to a shared board from your own Pinterest account Setting up shared (group) boards Creator of board can edit boards title or description, delete Pins, change covers and remove remove any pinner Each pinner controls what their pin says Easier if one person sets up all the boards for an individual organizational account and invites others Shared boards appear on everyone s accounts Account 1 Account 2 This little group of people indicates it is a group board 17
