3D DIGITAL OVERGLOSSING SETUP GUIDE
Artwork Setup For creating files for 3D Digital Overglossing you will need to know how to create the Spot Colour Layer for the 3D Digital Overglossed element (UV) in your vector design software (Adobe Illustrator or InDesign). The Spot Colour Layer, the one that is going to be printed, needs to be created as a Spot Colour Element. This layer will then be called Scodix (Case sensitive) and saved to a PDF file. Workflow with Adobe Indesign (Adobe Illustrator will be a similar setup): 1. Open a new document / Create a new document. 2. Create Layers: A. Scodix Layer Will contain all your elements to be 3D Overglossed (e.g. All the Scodix Layer must be a "Spot Colour" swatch). B. Print Layer Your print file (file to be printed on CMYK press) will be on this layer 3. Create your design, keeping your artwork that will be printed on a CMYK press on the Print Layer and the 3D Digital Overgloss artwork on the Scodix Layer. 4. Export your files as two PDF s; one file for printing, the other for overglossing, with 3mm bleed and no trim marks or for best results use our Adobe Distiller PDF Settings available from our website. (example file names: Print_My_Artwork_PRINT.pdf / Print_My_Artwork_SDIX.pdf) NOTE: All 3D Digital Overgloss elements must be.5mm off the trim edge and 1mm off both sides of a crease line. (Overgloss can not be cut, punched or creased, a void must be left to stop overgloss from chipping) 3D Digital Overgloss Setup Guide
Print Layer Scodix Layer NOTE: Verify that all the elements are centred and located correctly layer above layer. If your layers are not applied accurately, the prints will not be in alignment with each other.
Making a Spot Colour The colour used for the 3D Digital Overglossing should be defined as a Spot Colour 100% Magenta in the Swatch Colour Library with the name Scodix The easiest way to define a Spot Colour Swatch in InDesign is to click on the small black triangle at the top/right of the swatch palette and select new swatch. You will then be given the options for that colour swatch. Whether you are making a new colour, or want to edit a colour already defined, you use the Swatch Option dialog box. As the swatch names are used to produce separations, please give the Overgloss separation the name Scodix. Swatch palette Swatch Option dialog box 3D Digital Overgloss Setup Guide

Placed 12mm from the long side of the media. 100% black (C-0%, M-0%, Y-0%, K-100%). Added to both CMYK file and the Spot colour separation file. OPA dot must be isolated from any printed object by 2mm. Media Edge 12mm 2mm 12mm 2-12mm Print Direction 2mm

Tips and Tricks Avoid using thin typefaces or small type as the polymer height will have to be lowered to improve the registration. Try some adding some texture to your design - remember not everything has to be a solid. Just don t overgloss the type, make some highlights in your images as well. Keep all overgloss away from the trim edges, drill holes or creased areas to avoid chipping. Separate your print files from the overgloss files before supplying the files to us. Use our PDF settings for the best result when creating your PDF s (free download available from our website). Braille overglossing will require a die form for cutting. Limit your use of offset powder - it may create pin holes in your overgloss. Use vector artwork when possible for overgloss elements. We are here to help...
