NOTES Consultation (Step 1) Register at https://emoryoue.wufoo.com/forms/m1y15grr0n2m1y3/ to let us know you are interested in applying. Once you have registered, you will be added to the NS&FP Fulbright Canvas course. After you have completed the Fulbright Overview, Fulbright ETA, and ETA Resources modules, including the quizzes for each, schedule a consultation with a NS&FP advisor via ASST. If you are an alum, we will request a sponsored account for you so that you have access to Canvas, ASST, and your Emory email account. Please be patient, as this can take up to a week. Recommenders (Steps 2, 4, 5, 9) In consultation with a NS&FP advisor, determine your three reference writers. Additional advice on selecting and contacting potential recommenders is available on NS&FP s Canvas site. They may be professors or others who can speak to your ability to serve as an ETA in the host country. They should be individuals who have observed your teaching or communications skills and/or your adaptability and openness to diverse cultural experiences. Contact these individuals to confirm they are willing to provide references. After you have registered your reference writers on the Embark site, we encourage you to send them the NS&FP advice for Fulbright ETA recommenders available on Canvas, along with the following instructions: Instructions for reference writers On the Fulbright website (Applicants>Application Tips>ETA>References), you will find Instructions for Fulbright ETA Reference Writers and a sample reference form. This is a sample only. You will receive an email from the online application system, Embark, with a login user name and password and instructions for submitting the reference. o NOTE: These emails are often overlooked or deleted because the sender is not Fulbright, and/or the emails sometimes get caught in a spam filter. Fulbright does not accept standard letters of recommendation for the ETA. You must log in to the Embark Online Application System and enter your responses into the reference form online. Reference forms should be submitted in Embark no later than September 13, 2018. Do not submit a hard copy. No later than two weeks before references are due, provide your reference writers with a late-stage draft of your Personal Statement and Statement of Grant Purpose. If one of your reference writers is not able to meet the September 13, 2018 due date, please contact our office. 2
Foreign Language Evaluation (if applicable) (Steps 2, 4, 5, 9) In consultation with a NS&FP advisor, determine your language evaluator. More information on the language evaluation is available on NS&FP s Canvas site. For Commonly-Taught Languages: The Foreign Language Evaluation should be completed by a professional language teacher, preferably a university professor. For Less-Commonly-Taught Languages: If a professional language teacher is not readily available, a college-educated native-speaker of the language may be used. The language evaluator cannot be related to the applicant and should not be a peer. Instructions for language evaluators: On the Fulbright website (Applicants>Application Tips>ETA>Foreign Language Evaluation), you can find Instructions for Foreign Language Evaluators and a sample evaluation form. This is a sample only. You will receive an email from the online application system, Embark, with a login user name and password and with instructions for submitting their evaluation. o NOTE: These emails are often overlooked or deleted because the sender is not Fulbright, and/or the emails sometimes get caught in a spam filter. You must log in to the Embark Online Application System and enter your responses into the evaluation form online. Language evaluations must be submitted in Embark no later than September 13, 2018. Do not submit a hard copy. If your evaluator is not able to meet the September 13, 2018 due date, please contact our office. NOTE: It is permissible to request both a reference and a language evaluation from the same person; the system, however, will not accept the same contact information for both. It is necessary, therefore, to use a different contact email for each function. That is, ask your recommender/language evaluator to give you two different email addresses, one for the reference and one for the language evaluation. Point out to your recommender that s/he must use the email address and sign-in assigned for the reference to complete that document and the email address and sign-in assigned for the language evaluation to complete that document. Your writer must keep the two distinct. Statement of Grant Purpose (Steps 3, 8, 13) Draft and revise your statement of grant purpose. Be prepared to allow time to write and receive feedback on multiple drafts from an NS&FP advisor and other trusted mentors. Tips for writing the statement of grant purpose can be found on the Fulbright website (Applicants>Application Tips>ETA). Additional advice on preparing the Statement of Grant Purpose as well as sample essays may be found on NS&FP s Canvas site. The deadline for requesting feedback from a NS&FP advisor is September 6, 2018. 3
Personal Statement (Steps 3, 8, 13) Draft and revise your personal statement. Be prepared to allow time to write and receive feedback on multiple drafts from an NS&FP advisor. Tips for writing the personal statement can be found on the Fulbright website (Applicants>Application Tips>ETA). Additional advice on the personal statement as well as sample essays may be found on NS&FP s Canvas sites. The deadline for requesting feedback from a NS&FP advisor is September 6, 2018. Embark Online Registration (Step 4) After the application website goes live on April 1, go to the Fulbright website to start your application (Applicants>Embark Online Application). Follow the online instructions. Fill in your biographic information and enter contact information for each recommender and your language evaluator. You must trigger the request for each reference by clicking the send button. Emory Transcript (Step 6) The Registrar s Office now makes electronic Official Transcripts available. If you order an electronic copy, it will arrive as a secure PDF; you must save an unprotected copy of the secure PDF before you can upload it to the Embark system. You may instead order a hard copy of an official transcript and scan it yourself (yes, you may open the envelope) and upload it. You may request your transcript be held for pickup by checking the hold for pickup box on the transcript request form. You must upload your transcript by September 13, 2018. Outside Transcript(s) (Step 7) If you have attended another college or university to take courses for credit (not including Emory sponsored study abroad), order an electronic copy of your transcript from that school. Fulbright requires a transcript from other schools only IF the course names and grades are NOT listed individually on your Emory transcript. You must upload your outside transcripts by September 13, 2018. Internal Application Submission, Part 1 (Step 10) By 4:00 PM on September 13, 2018, complete and submit the online Embark application, including uploading the final draft of the Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement. Yes, submit. We will unsubmit the application later for revisions. We do not require a hard copy. Ensure that your references writers submit their references by September 13, 2018, as well. Next, upload your completed versions of the attached Checklist, Schedule of Availability, and Consent Form to http://college.emory.edu/national-awards/resources/procedures.html 4
