This document provides an introduction to the Cisco Prime LMS and lists the contents of the LMS 4.2 Kit. About Cisco Prime LAN About Cisco Prime LAN Cisco Prime LMS provides powerful features that enable you to configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and administer Cisco networks. It also supports Cisco technologies such as Identity, EnergyWise, Auto Smartports, and Smart Install. Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 categorizes tasks to the following underlying core functions in this release: Monitor Inventory Configuration Reports Admin Work Center For more information on the documentation, refer to the Product Documentation Set, page 4. To install and start using Cisco Prime LMS 4.2: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Review the document Cisco Prime LAN Documentation Roadmap (this document), which comes with your LMS 4.2 kit. This document contains the complete list of Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 documentation and instructions to access it. Check the section, Prerequisites, in Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN, for the Installation Prerequisites as well as the hardware and software requirements. Check the section, Preparing to Install Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 in Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN, for the Installation notes as well as License and Scalability information. 6

Cisco License Manager 3.2.2 for Automated Software Activation and License Management Step 4 Install Cisco Prime LAN. For detailed installation, upgrade, uninstallation and verification procedures, see the section, Performing Installation of LAN in Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN. If you encounter problems while installing, see the section, Troubleshooting and FAQs, in Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN. Step 5 Start using Cisco Prime LAN. For more information on how to get started with Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2, see Getting Started with Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2. If you are upgrading from a previous version of LMS to LMS 4.2, you would require more information on how to backup and restore data. See the Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN for the procedures to migrate data. The guides mentioned in this section are available at: http://www.cisco.com/en/us/products/sw/cscowork/ps2425/prod_installation_g uides_list.html Cisco License Manager 3.2.2 for Automated Software Activation and License Management The Cisco License Manager 3.2.2 is a license deployment and activation software for IOS devices. It uses the Product Authorization Key (PAK) to securely obtain device licenses from the Cisco.com license server. It then deploys the licenses to activate the software features on managed devices. Use Cisco License Manager 3.2.2 to quickly deploy the licenses on IOS devices. You can install both Cisco Prime LAN and Cisco License Manager 3.2.2 on the same server. Note CLM 3.2.2 can be installed only on Windows 2008 R2. 7
