Main reform in official statistics production of China Background National statistical survey system has been built since 1980 s But facing some issues, such as lacking complementation in subject-area statistics, un- reconciled data from different sources and unshareable information. The trust-fund project on statistical capacity development between China and the UN On 22 July 2009, Mr.Ma Jiantang Commissioner of NBS of China and Mr. Sha Zukang Under Secretary-General of the UN, on behalf of the Chinese government and the United Nations respectively, signed the Trust Fund Agreement on Statistical Capacity Development in Beijing. The international statistical training centre was set up in NBS On 20 October, 2010, the first World Statistics Day, Commissioner Ma Jiantang and Director Paul Cheung signed Letter of Intent of Collaboration on International Cooperation in Statistical Training between the National Bureau of Statistics of People s Republic of China and the United Nations Statistics Division, and held the Inauguration ceremony for China International Statistical Training Centre in Collaboration with UN Statistics. 5
There are some statisticians in NBS were sent to UNSD to work and study. UNSD in collaboration with NBS organized a series of international workshops of statistics to strengthen the technical capacity of National Statistical Offices of Asian countries to generate national statistics from census and survey data. Main topics including International Workshop on Industrial Statistics Workshops on Population Projections using Census Data International lworkshop on Household ldincome, Consumption and Full Accounting of the Households Sector International Workshop on Measuring GDP by Final Demand Approach International Workshop on Social Statistics International Workshop on Regional Products and Income Accounts International Workshop on Implementation of ISIC and CPC 6
Until 2013, the first phase of the trust- fund project has been completed. There are 2176 statisticians from 47 countries attended the international workshops. The letter of intent of the second phase has been signed last week in Tianjin. NBS will make more cooperation and exchange with international organizations and other NSOs. Thank you! 7
