UPLOADING AN IMAGE TO FACEBOOK AND MAKING IT YOUR PROFILE PICTURE PART 1: UPLOADING AN IMAGE TO FACEBOOK 1. Open your web browser. This will most likely be Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari: Internet Explorer Mozilla Firefox Google Chrome Safari For this tutorial, I will be using Google Chrome. (If you are using a web browser other than Google Chrome, some features might have a slightly different appearance, but all of the instructions should still apply.) 2. In the address bar at the top of your browser window, type in www.facebook.com. 3. Tap the Enter key on your keyboard. 4. If you already have a Facebook account: In the login bar at the top of the screen, enter the email address or phone number associated with your account, and then enter your account password. If you do not have a Facebook account: Fill out the Sign Up form and click the green Sign Up button at the bottom.
5. Locate the Update Status box at the top of the page and then select Add Photos/Video. 6. Select Upload Photos/Video. (You can also use Create Photo Album if you want to keep multiple pictures together as a group, but for this tutorial we will be using the other option.) 7. An explorer window will open up in which you can access all of the files available on your computer. Find the picture file that you want to use, select it by single-clicking on it and then click Open at the bottom of the window. (Note that if you have just downloaded the picture from an email or from the Internet, it will most likely be in your Downloads folder, which you should be able to access under Favorites in the window s left-hand pane.)
8. Click on the text that says Say something about this photo and type in a caption. 9. Check the grey box at the bottom right (to the left of the blue Post button). It will say either Public or Friends. If it says Public, then anyone can see the picture. If it says Friends, then only people who are friends with you on Facebook can see the picture. If you want to change this setting, click on the box and select the other option. 10. Click Post. PART 2: MAKING AN IMAGE YOUR PROFILE PICTURE 1. Take Photo Use your computer s webcam, if it has one, to take a picture of yourself and post it instantly to Facebook. Upload Photo Use a photo on your computer. Edit Thumbnail Facebook displays profile photos as square images. If your image is not perfectly square, it will only display part of the image. Use this option to change which part of the image is displayed. Remove Return your profile photo to the default placeholder image. Select Choose from Photos. (You would use Upload Photo if you had not already posted your image to Facebook; however, since we posted the image to Facebook in the first half of this tutorial, we will be using Choose from Photos instead. ) 4. The pop-up window that appears has two main categories: Photos of You, or Tagged Photos, includes all of the pictures in which you have been tagged by yourself or any of your friends on Facebook (in other words, all of the pictures that someone has said you are in). Photo Albums includes all of the pictures that you have posted to Facebook. For this tutorial, we will select Photo Albums. (Note that the selected category, either Photo Albums or Photos of You / Tagged Photos, will always be on the left. So if you select the category on the right, the two category titles will switch places.)
5. Select the album titled Timeline Photos. 6. Find and click on the photo that you would like to use.
7. Depending on the size of your image, a window may pop up in which you are asked to Drag the corners of the box above to crop your new profile photo. If you see this window, resize and move the highlighted box to the part of the image that you would like to use for your profile photo. Click and drag the squares at the corners of the highlighted box to change the part of the image that is selected. 8. When you have highlighted the part of the image that you would like to use for your profile picture, click on the blue Done Cropping button at the lower right of the window. 9. Wait for your profile picture to save. 10. You are all done!
