Overview

Overview About this Manual The purpose of this manual is to provide information on the 32MP Gateway s hardware, functions, and configuration. This manual is divided into four sections. The Overview section gives a detailed description of the 32MP Gateway hardware and functions. The Configuration section presents 32MP Gateway screens as they are displayed at the Building Supervisor and gives specific information about each item on the screen. This section provides a crossreference between Building Supervisor displays and the 3200MP Controller information contained in the following start-up, operation and maintenance instructions available through Carrier Literature Distribution: 19DK (531-919) 19DM (531-962) 19DR with DM Compressor (531-926) 19DR with DK Compressor (531-928) 19EB (531-910) 17DK (531-708) 17DM (531-707) 17DR with DM Compressor (531-704) 17DR with DK Compressor (531-717) 3200MP Controller Retrofit (808-009) 3200MP Expanded Services Panel II Start-up, Operation and Maintenance Instructions (533-211) also applies to the listed equipment. The BEST Program Access section provides a list of table, point, and decision numbers that can be used in BEST programs. The Configuration Sheets section provides a copy of the 32MP configuration sheets. 1

Introduction The 32MP Gateway is a component of the Carrier Comfort Network (CCN) CHILLERVISOR system. The 32MP Gateway integrates a centrifugal chiller into the Carrier Comfort Network (CCN). The chiller must be equipped with a 3200MP Controller and an ESP-II Expanded Services Panel. The 32MP Gateway can be used with both single and dual compressor chillers. A single 32MP Gateway provides interface functions for one chiller. A CCN Building Supervisor communicating through a 32MP Gateway can be used to configure certain ESP-II and 3200MP Controller parameters, and to display current operating conditions of the chiller connected to them. The Building Supervisor also annunciates alarms and displays alarm messages generated by the 32MP Gateway. BEST, Carrier s custom programming language, can access points and decisions in a 32MP Gateway. BEST programs, which reside in a FID, can read data from 32MP Gateway parameters displayed on the points, service configuration, configuration, and maintenance screens. 32MP Gateway Hardware The 32MP Gateway is a CCN CIO (Communications Input/Output) Module equipped with specialized software that enables it to perform its interface functions. The 32MP Gateway is shown in Figure 1. COMM1 is the 32MP Gateway s connection to the CCN Communication Bus. The bus can operate at 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600 bits per second (bps). It typically operates at 9600 bps. A 32MP Gateway can reside on any CCN Communication Bus, 0-239, and can be assigned any system element number, 1-239. The 32MP Gateway s default address is Bus 0, System Element 85. COMM2 is the Gateway s connection to the 3200MP Controller Communication Bus. The 3200MP Controller Communication Bus operates at 1200 bps. For this reason, COMM2 also operates at 1200 bps. 2

The Network Configuration Tool (NCT) may be used to change the 32MP Gateway s bus and system element numbers and the baud rate of COMM1 if necessary. Figure 1 32MP Gateway 3

32MP Gateway Functions The 32MP Gateway s primary function is to integrate a centrifugal chiller equipped with a 3200MP Controller and an ESP-II panel into the Carrier Comfort Network II. Other 32MP Gateway functions include: Program enable/disable Elapsed on-time tracking Remote Contacts Start/Stop Shutdown and communication alarms BEST program access CHILLERVISOR System Manager (CSM) support Each function is described in detail below. Program Enable/ Disable On initial power up, the 32MP Gateway automatically determines whether it is connected to a single or dual compressor chiller. Because of this, a Building Supervisor cannot display 32MP Gateway data if the gateway is not connected to a functional 3200MP Controller Communication Bus. Two switches on the 3200MP Controller allow the user to enable and disable the 32MP Gateway manually. The two switches are the Local/Remote switch on the 3200MP s Setpoint/Display Board, and the Panel/Remote switch on the ESP-II panel. The 32MP Gateway s ability to write to the 3200MP/ESP-II software is disabled when either switch is not in the Remote position. If the switches are in the Local or Panel modes, chiller parameters can be displayed, but configuration changes cannot be made. Elapsed On-time Tracking Remote Contact Start/Stop The 32MP Gateway accumulates up to 32,767 hours of elapsed ontime for its chiller. The accumulated on-time value is displayed on the Building Supervisor s points screen, and may be modified by an operator using the Building Supervisor. The 32MP Gateway and the ESP-II panel each include a remote contact option that, when enabled, allows the chiller to be stopped and started by contact closure input from a field-installed remote start relay. Because the gateway supercedes the ESP-II panel in initiating the chiller's starts and stops, it automatically disables the panel's remote contacts option. The panel's option can be enabled, 4

but it will be disabled by the gateway as soon as the panel is returned to remote mode. Because of this, when enabling, disabling, or checking the status of the remote contact option the user should do so at the 32MP Gateway, not at the ESP-II panel. Shutdown and Communication Alarms BEST Program Access CHILLERVISOR System Manager Support The 32MP Gateway generates two types of alarms. A CHILFAIL alarm is generated if a 3200MP Controller shutdown fault occurs. The 3200MP status code is included in this alarm message. A CHILCOMM communication error alarm is generated in the event of a communication failure between the 32MP Gateway and the 3200MP Controller/ESP-II. If the communication failure is with the 3200MP within the chiller or with the cable from the chiller to the 32MP Gateway, a code value of 1 is included with this alarm message. If the communication failure is with the ESP-II within the chiller, a code value of 2 is included with this alarm message. When alarms occur, they are annunciated at the Building Supervisor and the alarm messages are placed into its alarm file. BEST programs, which reside in a FID, can access 32MP Gateway points and decisions. BEST can read data from 32MP Gateway parameters displayed on the points, service configuration, configuration, and maintenance screens through the appropriate tables. BEST IV can write data only to those points that are accessible by the Data Transfer function. To see the list of point names that are accessible by Data Transfer, refer to Table #1 on Page 9. The CHILLERVISOR System Manager (CSM) is a device that coordinates chillers equipped with 32MP Gateways. It can coordinate the operation of up to eight centrifugal chillers. The 32MP Gateway contains a dedicated internal data structure that can be accessed by the CSM. For specific information regarding the CSM, refer to the CSM Overview and Configuration Manual (808-625). Operator Interface The Building Supervisor is the primary operator interface to the 32MP Gateway. Once a 32MP Gateway is connected to a 3200MP Controller Communication Bus and a CCN Communication Bus, an operator at a Building Supervisor can add it to the Carrier Controls List and upload the data from the 32MP Gateway to the Building Supervisor s database. 5

An operator working at a Building Supervisor can then: display a list of 32MP Gateway points that shows current conditions at the chiller and the last five shutdown codes. modify selected points and return them to local control. display configuration and maintenance screens and change 3200MP Controller configuration data. create graphics. There are eight screens associated with the 32MP Gateway: Points screen Service configuration screen Configuration screen (CONFIG1) Maintenance screen Alarm configuration screen (ALRM-CFG) Runtime Equipment Part Configuration screen (RUN-POC1) Consumable Equipment Part Configuration screen (CONS- POC1) Controller Identification screen (CTLR-ID) The Points screen displays the current status of chiller parameters such as status codes, setpoints, and operating temperatures. The status of selected points can be modified by the operator using the Building Supervisor s Force function. The force can be removed using the Auto function. Note that the Auto function removes only the SUPVSR force message from the Building Supervisor screen. The value entered remains in effect at the 3200MP/ ESP-II. From the Points screen, an operator can modify the values of the following points: Chiller Start/Stop Leaving Chilled Water (LCW) Control Point Demand Limit Compressor On-time Remote Contact Input 6

Note: Due to the nature of communications between the 32MP Gateway and the 3200MP Controller/ESP-II combination, it can take up to thirty seconds for the modified value to be displayed on the Building Supervisor screen. The Service configuration screen displays service parameters read by the 32MP Gateway from the configuration (DIP) switches located on the 3200MP Controller. Service parameters include machine, starter, and sensor types. The Configuration screen allows an operator to enter data used by the 3200MP s reset, restart, and remote contacts options. The table named CONFIG1 is selected to display this screen. The Maintenance screen displays the current status of the 3200MP Controller s inputs and outputs. The Alarm configuration screen is displayed by selecting the table named ALRM-CFG. This screen is a listing of 32MP Gateway alarm configuration decisions such as Alarm System Name and Re- Alarm Time. Specific information on each item displayed on the Points, Service Configuration, Configuration, Maintenance, and Alarm Configuration screens is provided in the Configuration section beginning on Page 11. The Runtime and Consumable Equipment Part Configuration screens are displayed by selecting the tables named RUN-POC1 and CONS-POC1. If 32MP Gateway points are to be used in conjunction with the Runtime and Consumable supervisory parts of a CCN Data Collection Option, this is where the point names and types of those points are entered. See Page 8 for more information on Data Collection. The Controller Identification screen lists 32MP Gateway controller parameters such as device name, description and location, and software and assembly part numbers. The table named CTLR-ID is selected to display this screen. 7

The 32MP Gateway can display units in either imperial or metric format when used with the Building Supervisor III. Data from gateways used with the Building Supervisor II can be displayed in imperial units only. Network Functions Data Collection The CCN network functions that are relevant to a 32MP Gateway are the Data Collection and Data Transfer Options, and BEST programs. The CCN Data Collection Option can be used to collect data from the 32MP Gateway points listed in Table 1. Points must be specified by name and type when configuring the Data Collection Option s supervisory part. Consumable and Runtime point names and types must also be configured in the 32MP Gateway s equipment parts (CONS-POC1 and RUN-POC1). For more information on the Data Collection Option, refer to the Data Collection Option Overview and Configuration Manual (808-556). Consumable and Runtime equipment part configuration sheets can also be found in that manual. Data Transfer The CCN Data Transfer Option can be used to transfer data from or to the 32MP Gateway points listed in Table 1. To transfer data from the 32MP Gateway, the point names given in Table 1 must be configured in the Source Variable Name decisions at the Data Transfer Option. These point names must also be used when transferring data to the Gateway. A data transfer to a point results in a controller force on that point. For this reason, it is recommended that caution be used when transferring data to the 32MP Gateway. Data should not be transferred to the spare sensor points. For more information on the Data Collection Option, refer to the Data Transfer Option Overview and Configuration Manual (808-557). 8

BEST can read data from 32MP Gateway parameters displayed on the points, service configuration, configuration, and maintenance screens. Each item displayed is indexed by a table number corresponding to the screen on which it appears, and by point or decision number. Section 3 of this manual contains a complete list of table, point, and decision numbers. Note: With the exception of the points listed in Table 1 above, the points listed in Section 3 can only be accessed by table and index number. In BEST programs the CONNECT statement is used to access 32MP Gateway parameters. Use the following format to read any 32MP Gateway point or decision: CONNECT var AS A DECISION TO table, index IN number where var is a user-defined name for the point or decision. table is a number corresponding to the 32MP Gateway screen on which the point or decision appears. index is a number corresponding to the 32MP Gateway point or decision. 9

To see the list of point names that Data Transfer can access, refer to Table 1 on Page 9. When using BEST IV to write to points, use this statement format to connect to variables: CONNECT var AS A type TO point IN element USING SAFETY LIMITS low, high Note: The format shown above can only be used for the points listed in Table 1. All other points must use the format shown on the previous page. Remember that the other points can only be read by BEST, not written to by BEST. For more information on BEST, refer to the CCN BEST IV Programmer's Reference Manual (808-699). 10

Configuration

Configuration General Information This section shows single and dual compressor 32MP Gateway screens displayed at the Building Supervisor. Specific information regarding individual parameters is given following each screen. Wherever possible, this section provides cross-reference to related Carrier documentation: 3200MP Controller Retrofit Startup, Operation, and Maintenance Manual 3200MP Expanded Services Panel Start-up, Operation and Maintenance Instructions 17-series and 19-series Startup, Operation and Maintenance Manuals Title and catalog numbers for these documents are listed on Page 1 of this manual. Points Screen The Points menu item is used to select the Points screen. The Points screen displays current conditions at the chiller and the last five shutdown codes. The Building Supervisor or Service Tool s force operation can be used to modify the values of selected 32MP Gateway points. Transmitting a force command to one of these points causes its value to change and the SUPVSR force message to be displayed on screen with the point. Using the Auto operation removes the SUPVSR force message from the screen. The point does not return to the value it had before being forced. Of the 32MP Gateway points that can be modified, only Compressor On-time displays a dynamic value. The other modifiable points only change their values when commanded to. The commands can come from an operator, or from other devices on the CCN, such as CHILLERVISOR System Manager, Data Transfer, or BEST IV. 11

and started by contact closure input from a field-installed remote start relay. Because the gateway supercedes the ESP-II panel in initiating the chiller's starts and stops, it automatically disables the panel's remote contacts option. The panel's option can be enabled, but it will be disabled by the gateway as soon as the panel is returned to remote mode. Because of that, when enabling, disabling, or checking the status of the remote contacts option the user should do so at the 32MP Gateway, not at the ESP-II panel. Figure 10 Alarm Configuration Screen Alarm Configuration Screen The alarm configuration screen is displayed by the operator at a Building Supervisor to configure alarm parameters such as system names and re-alarm times. The table named ALARM-CFG is selected to display this screen. The alarm configuration screen is shown in Figure 10. Specific decision information follows. Alarm Control This decision defines the CCN system elements that will process 32MP Gateway alarms. Allowable Entries 0 = Alarm processing disabled 64 = Autodial Gateways 128 = Local Building Supervisors 192 = Local Building Supervisors and Autodial Gateways 208 = Local Building Supervisors, Autodial Gateways, and Alarm Printer Interface Module 48

Alarm Equipment Priority This is used to define the priority of 32MP Gateway alarms. A priority of 0 is the highest priority and a priority of 7 is the lowest priority. A priority of 4 is reserved for chiller alarms. It is therefore recommended that you do not change the value of this decision. Allowable Entries 0 to 7 priority numbers Communication Failure Retry Time This decision defines the interval between alarm retries. If an alarm sent by the 32MP Gateway is not acknowledged by a network alarm acknowledger, the same alarm will be sent again following the amount of time entered in this decision. Allowable Entries 1 to 240 minutes Re-alarm Time This is the interval between re-alarms sent by the 32MP Gateway. As long as the alarm condition that initially caused an alarm exists, the 32MP Gateway will continue to retransmit the alarm at regular intervals. The interval between retransmissions is the amount of time entered in this decision. Re-alarming will stop when the alarm condition returns to normal. Allowable Entries 1 to 255 minutes Alarm System Name This decision is used to identify the system element generating an alarm. In the case of the 32MP Gateway, the default name 32MPGTWY will appear in the alarm message displayed at Building Supervisors. In a multiple chiller system this name can be changed to identify the gateway serving each individual chiller. 32MPGW-1 and 32MPGW-2 might be used, for example. Allowable Entries Up to 8 alphanumeric characters 49
