It is intended for system administrators or for anyone else responsible for performing installation and configuration tasks. Chapter 3. Supported topologies This chapter describes supported topologies for Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator and the supporting software, such as the database serer and the Web serer. The configurations described in this chapter apply to all platforms, with exceptions and limitations being clearly identified. Note: In all topologies, all nodes must be running the same operating system, with the following exceptions: The directory serer, when installed on a serer that does not hae any other Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator software installed (for example WebSphere Application Serer or DB2 Uniersal Database Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition), does not need to be running the same operating system as the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serer. The only exception to this occurs on Windows with Microsoft Actie Directory. If Microsoft Actie Directory is your directory serer, all Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serers must be running on Windows. The specific configuration limitations noted in Configuration limitations on page 15. In this chapter the following terms are used: database node A node in a topology that only contains the database serer used by Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator. LDAP serer node A node in a topology that only contains the LDAP serer used bytioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator. Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator node A node in a topology that contains the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serer. While the node may also contain the database serer or WebSphere Application Serer, depending on the topology, if a node contains the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serer, it is referred to as the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator node. Important The instructions in this section are meant as a general outline only to proide information for planning purposes. Detailed instructions are proided later in this book. For specific information on how to configure non-ibm software or pre-installed IBM software for use with Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator, refer to Part 3, Installing and configuring the prerequisites, on page 27. One-node topology 1. On AIX 5.2, Tioli Directory Serer, Version 5.2 does not support IBM DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1.3, Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition. Tioli Directory Serer only supports DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition on AIX 5.2. As a result, if you are planning to use the AIX operating enironment for your Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator system, you must either: Install Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 on a separate AIX 5.2 machine and use DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition as the database for Tioli Directory Serer 5.2. A separate CD is proided for installing Tioli Directory Serer and DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition in this situation. This CD is called WebSphere Application Serer Version 5.1 AIX Tioli Directory Serer 5.2. The part number on the CD is: C279KML. Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator continues to use DB2 Uniersal Database, Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition as its database serer. Install Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 on a separate serer running a platform other than AIX 5.2. In this scenario, DB2 Uniersal Database, Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition is supported as the database serer for Tioli Directory Serer 5.2. 2. Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 does not support Red Hat Enterprise Linux Adanced Serer 2.1. Customers using Linux on Intel as their operating enironment must install Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 on a separate serer running a platform other than Linux on Intel, noting the AIX 5.2 restriction aboe. In a one-node topology, Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator and the supporting software are installed on a single machine. This includes Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator, the database serer, WebSphere Application Serer, and the LDAP serer. The prerequisite and supported software should be installed on the machine as indicated in the following chart. Limitation This configuration is supported only on Windows, Solaris and SUSE Linux Enterprise Serer 8 for Linux on iseries. A one-node configuration is not supported on AIX 5.2 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux Adanced Serer 2.1. Two-node topology There are two different configurations supported in a two-node topology. These configurations are described in the sections below. Remote directory serer configuration In this two-node configuration, only the LDAP serer is installed on a separate machine. All other software applications are installed on the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serer machine. The prerequisite and supported software should be installed on the two nodes as indicated in the following chart. A separate CD is proided for installing Tioli Directory Serer and DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition in this situation. As noted earlier, the database serer must be running the same operating enironment as the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serer, with the exception of the limitations noted below. Limitation These limitations apply: If Microsoft Actie Directory is your directory serer, the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator serer must also be running on Windows. This two-tier configuration is not supported on AIX 5.2, due to the Tioli Directory Serer limitation on AIX which requires the database serer to be DB2 Uniersal Database Enterprise Edition. DB2 Uniersal Database Enterprise Edition and DB2 Uniersal Database Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition cannot co-exist on the same machine. This two-tier configuration is not supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Adanced Serer 2.1, because the Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator and the database serer must be running on the same operating enironment. Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 does not support Red Hat Enterprise Linux Adanced Serer 2.1. Three-node topology In a three-node topology, Tioli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator is installed on one node, the database serer is installed on a second node, and the LDAP serer is installed on a third node.
