Configuring the Product Questions Extension To configure the extension, navigate to System > Configuration in the top Admin Panel menu and select Product Questions from the left side menu. In the Product Questions config screen you can modify the extension s general settings and the question and answer notification settings as further explained below. It s possible to configure the extension per store view by changing the Current Configuration Scope at the top left corner of the page. To save any changes made in the Product Questions settings, click the Save Config button in the top right corner of the configuration page. General Settings In the General Settings you can: Enable the extension, adding a Product Questions tab to all product pages. Require customers to log in order to submit questions. Enable the question auto-approve option. If set to No, submitted questions need to be approved by a moderator first before they are published on the front-end product page (see the chapter about answering product questions). Select the front-end style of the Product Questions panel, choosing between the Modern material design or the Classic design (see front-end examples). Define the amount of questions and answers displayed per Product Questions page. Select the front-end sort order of submitted product questions. Enable the upvoting and downvoting function for front-end questions and/or answers. Enable ReCaptcha spam protection for the front-end product question form. Please note that ReCaptcha will only work after entering your site and secret keys below.
Question Notification Settings In the Question Notification Settings you can: Configure the e-mail notification that can be send to the customer and/or admin user when a new product question has been submitted. Enter a custom notification sender name and e-mail address. If these fields are left empty the default store name and e-mail address will be used. Customize the notification subject and content which support the use of the custom variables that are listed under the content area. The variables can be used to automatically include product question related data in the notification such as the product name, product page URL or a copy of the submitted product question. Answer Notification Settings In the Answer Notification Settings you can: Configure the e-mail notification that can be optionally send to the customer and/or admin user when a product questions has been answered. Whether or not a customer receives the answer to his question by e-mail can be defined per question (see the chapter about answering product questions). Enter a custom notification sender name and e-mail address. If these fields are left empty the default store name and e-mail address will be used. The variables can be used to automatically include product question related data in the notification such as the product name, product page URL or the answer to the submitted product question.
Managing Product Questions Submitted product questions can managed by navigating to Catalog > Product Questions in the top Admin Panel menu. Select a product question from the list to modify or answer it. Alternatively, submitted questions can also be managed per customer in the Product Questions tab of the customer view (Customers > Manage Customers). Logged in customers can view their product questions and answers in the My Product Questions tab of their front-end customer account. Answering Product Questions By selecting an item from the Product Questions grid you can: Review and modify the customer s name, e-mail address and submitted product question. Answer and approve the product question. Questions are only published on the front-end product page once they are approved, unless the auto-approve option is enabled in the extension s General Settings. Enable the WYSIWYG text editor and include links and images in the question and answer content. Use the quick-view links at the top of the page to view the product details in the front- and back-end. Use the buttons at the top of the page to post or update the answer on the product page, notify the customer by e-mail, or both. The e-mail notification content can configured in the extension s Answer Notification Settings.
Creating a Product Questions Widget The extension includes a Product Questions ticker widget which can be used to rotate random product questions in the front-end Magento store. The questions and answers displayed in the widget include a direct link to the product page. To create a Product Questions widget, navigate to CMS > Widgets in the top Admin Panel menu and click the Add New Widget Instance button. Select the widget type Random Product Questions Widget, choose your store s Design Package/Theme and click Continue. Enter a widget title for admin reference in the Frontend Properties tab and select the store view(s) in which the widget should be enabled, then scroll down to the Layout Updates section. Click the Add Layout Update button to define where you want to display the Product Questions widget, for example in the right column of all store pages. Widget Options
In the Widget Options tab you can: Enter a widget title which will be shown at the top of the Product Questions widget. Set the number of widget rows, which defines the amount of questions shown at the same time. Set the number of widget items, which defines the amount of questions and answers rotating in the ticker widget. Choose to use the extension s Javascript library if your store theme doesn t include jquery. Save the widget and refresh the Magento cache to show the Product Questions widget in the front-end store.
Product Questions Front-end Examples Below are front-end examples of the Product Questions panel, the Product Question ticker widget and the My Product Questions tab of the customer account. Using the pagination in the top right corner of the panel the product question pages can be browsed through without refreshing the page. If customers are logged in, their name and e-mail address are automatically prefilled in the Question form. Customers can choose to keep their question private, in which case it won t be published on the front-end product page.
