Choose a base theme that you like, then edit it A. Formatting (site wide) Site header > Title: Make sure title size is large! Your name should be the biggest text on every page. You may need to change Image to None, depending on base theme used. Content Area: Change background colors Sidebar gadgets: Adjust the navigation bar Depending on theme, change color, text size, and font color for links and links visited Make sure the Link and Visited Link colors are the same Select the site name at the top left menu to return to general editing B. Formatting (Individual pages) Altered text won t be changed in the Manage Sites feature; edits have to be made on each page individually.
Make sure all the text is the same size and type, across all pages. Recommended: For each page, Edit page > Select all > Change to Normal text and 12 font size Adding a Photo Add to the About Me page Main About Me photo should be professional and include only you Only need one photo, but additional can be added if they highlight other aspects of your portfolio Be sure not to include any pictures of patients, as doing so violates HIPAA Click the Pencil icon ( Edit Page ) to open the page editor Place text cursor where you d like to add the image Insert > Image > Click on an uploaded image or click the Upload Images button to add one.
To ensure your website is accessible for people who use screen readers, add an Alt text description. When finished, click OK Change size and alignment as needed If you want text to wrap around the image, choose the Wrap On option
Adding Documents (two options) A. Upload a file (recommended) Don t have to worry about adjusting permissions Save your Google Doc as a pdf or Word document Double check font to avoid conversion errors: Arial is recommended Open document in Google Drive File > Download as > PDF Document

Adding a Link The process is the same as adding a Google Doc link Insert > Link > Web Address Add display text and URL Check Open this link in a new window To add a relative link (a link to another part of this same site): Select the text you want to be clickable Insert > Link > Policy page For links within this site, don t check the open in new window option
Creating a new page Select the Create Page button at the top of the screen Add a descriptive title and click Create
Note: If you add a Contact Me page to your site, do not put your personal phone number or address on it. Instead, include your professional email address. Newly created pages: Don t automatically appear in the navigation bar Do have comments section, which you should disable To disable comments, click on the Gear button > Page Setting > Uncheck Allow Comments
Adjusting the Navigation Bar Gear > Edit Site Layout > Click on the pencil next to the word Sidebar on the left side of the screen
Change the sidebar width Increase the sidebar width so that it fits full lines of text May need to experiment with different widths till one fits To alter the links in the sidebar, click on the word Navigation on the left side of the screen Re order links by clicking on a page title and using the up and down arrows to move it around the list Unclick Display title to keep the word Navigation from appear at the top on the sidebar Remove Course Syllabi by selecting the page and clicking on the trash can on the right side of the window
Add the new page by click on Add Page, selecting the page title, and click OK
Add a link to PLU Nursing page by clicking Add URL, and typing PLU Nursing Department and the address http://www.plu.edu/nursing Don t forget to check Open this link in a new window Finishing Touches Once you ve finished making changes, be sure to check your website on many different platforms, browsers, and devices. It may look different on each screen, so try to make adjustments until it is readable on as many screens as possible! Potential Questions: How do I fix the text wrap issue on the Essentials section of front page? Copy and paste the Essentials text into a word document. Delete the text in the site. Re copy the text in the word document and paste it back into the site. This should clean up the issue.
