Local Toolbar Management To change the arrangement of wizards on your toolbar, or to add commonly used wizards from other modules to your default toolbar, select: Preferences > Desktop > Current Toolbar > Local Toolbar Management. The Toolbar Management window contains three panes: Delivery, Customized and Local Toolbar Files. The Delivery Toolbar Files created by Sirsi/Dynix as a default are in the left column. Customized Toolbar Files are located in the center column. They have been created by RUL staff and delivered by the library systems department for use at the RU Libraries. These toolbars are saved to the server. The Local Toolbar Files are in the right column. These toolbars are saved on your personal workstation. 1
If you want to change the appearance of a given toolbar to suit your needs, you will want to copy the toolbar from either the Delivered Toolbar Files, or from the Custom Toolbar Files. Here, I will copy the Circulation-RUL toolbar in order to change the order of the items. Right click Circulation-RUL and select Copy to Local. This brings the toolbar to your local desktop for you to manipulate. Saving Local Toolbars After copying a toolbar into the local toolbar files, you need to save it under a new name. Highlight the toolbar in the local column, right click, and choose Save As 2
Name the toolbar (the actual file name) and click the save button. You will then be asked to enter a description (the name displayed on the toolbar). They can be the same, but no spaces and no special characters are allowed in the file name. Here, the toolbar has been renamed YourName and it was given the description My toolbar. If you are renaming a toolbar, be certain that you select Save As and not Change Description from the shortcut menu that opens when you right click a toolbar. The Change Description option only allows you to change the displayed name of the toolbar file, not the actual toolbar file name. A good rule of thumb is to never use the Change Description option unless you know that you have already selected Save As to change the toolbar file name. 3
After saving a copy of a delivered toolbar under a new name, you must remove the copy of the delivered toolbar. If you do not do this, your workstation will be using the your locally saved toolbar, rather that the system delivered copy. Any changes that are made to these delivered toolbars would not be reflected on your workstation. Removing the file from the local toolbar files does not remove your access to these toolbars; it just changes the location from where you are accessing them. Remove the toolbar using the same steps as Save As; just choose Remove. Now, My toolbar contains all of the elements that Circulation-RUL does, but you can tailor it to suit your individual needs by adding, removing, or reordering the wizards. 4
To expand the contents of the toolbar, click on the plus sign. The tree will expand. This brought up the list of common tasks and all of the wizards. You can also expand each wizard group to view the tools contained within. You can highlight and drag any wizard to change its position within the wizard grouping. Here, the positions of CheckOut and Discharge have been changed, so Discharge will now appear above CheckOut in the Common Tasks Wizard group within My toolbar. If you would like to move a wizard from one group to another, you need to right click on the item you wish to move. The item must be deleted from one group in order to move it to a different group. Select Remove Item. Now you can right click again, anywhere in the toolbar that you would like to paste the item. Select Paste Above or Paste Below according to the position you prefer. If you remove without Pasting, you will delete the item permanently. You can also change the displayed description of any object by right clicking, and choosing either Modify (for individual wizards) or Change Description (for wizard groupings) and entering a new name in the box that appears. Return to the Toolbar Management Screen by clicking OK. 5
Either select remove and then paste into another grouping, such as common tasks. Or select remove to remove the item permanently from your personal toolbar. Here, I will remove the item permanently. You can also copy any wizard from any delivered or customized toolbar file. Here, I right clicked the Modify Title wizard from the RUL-Reserves toolbar, selected Copy, and I can now paste the wizard into the common tasks toolbar of My toolbar by right clicking Add Brief Title and selecting paste after. Now the wizard will appear after Add Brief Title. 6
All changes you make will be saved automatically. If you would like to create an entirely new customized toolbar, you can pick and choose any elements from the Delivery Toolbar Files or the Customized Toolbar Files. To begin, right-click on Local Toolbar Files and select Add Toolbar. A dialog box will appear. Type in a file name and click save. You will have your customized tab that will be viewable in the top row of toolbars. Here, a customized toolbar called Stu has been created. You can populate it with any toolbar files or wizards by using the same copying and pasting techniques we described above. These locally created toolbars will appear every time you log in to your personal computer. As in the C Client, any changes you make only affect the computer you are using. They are not login specific and they will not transfer from computer to computer. A final note: Even though any wizard can be added to the toolbar, you cannot use a wizard unless your access list permits use or you know the override code defined by the Unicorn administrator. 7
Function Key Mapping To map function keys to wizards, right-click a toolbar in the Local Toolbar Files (or Custom Toolbar Files) pane, and click Function Key Mapping. Use the Function Key Mapping template as follows. To map the basic function key, clear the Shift and Alt check boxes. In a function key box, such as the F2 box, use the drop-down list to select a wizard. Only previously unmapped wizards will appear in the list. To map a function key plus SHIFT key combination, select the Shift check box, and in a function key box, use the drop-down list to select a wizard. To map a function key plus ALT key combination, select the Alt check box, and in a function key box, use the drop-down list to select a wizard. To map a function key plus SHIFT and ALT key combination, select the Shift and Alt check boxes, and in a function key box, use the drop-down list to select a wizard. After making selections for function key mappings, click OK to save your changes. 8
