Subject Summary: Mathematics Years 7 to 10 The scheme of work a student follows is based on their ability rather than their year group. We refer to each scheme of work as a Stage. Each Stage is numbered, the higher the number the more challenging the work. Each September we decide the stage each class will follow for the year based on the grades achieved the previous summer. The table below shows the mix of stages typically taught. Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Year 10 Set 1 Stage 7 Stage 8 Stage 9 Stage 10 Set 2 Stage 6 Stage 7 Stage 8 Stage 9 Set 3 Stage 5 Stage 6 Stage 7 Stage 8 Set 4 Stage 4 Stage 5 Stage 6 Stage 7 Set 5 Stage 4 Stage 4 Stage 5 Stage 6 Below is a summary of the topics in each Stage and broadly when we would expect to deliver them. Each stage is designed extend students knowledge and understanding while also reinforcing key topics learnt in earlier Stages. For more detail of what is in each Stage please look at the relevant Knowledge booklet. Year 11 In year 11 students sit a number of assessments in preparation for the GCSE s. Lessons are spent revising all relevant topics with a particular emphasis on topics that the assessments indicate need further work.
