A detailed explanation of the advanced search options is shown on the lower section of this page, entitled Search Language and Advance Search Tips. Users can then perform an advanced search within all of the highlighted manuals, or they can select only specific manuals by holding down the control key and clicking on the specific manuals they wish to search. Allows the user to input terms to exclude. Therefore, if these terms appear within a document, it will not be part of the results set. This feature will be used in conjunction with the Boolean Search [B] D. Proximity search allows users to query terms that are within X number of words from each other E. Advanced search trigger button. Single Term and Phrase There are two types of terms: Single Terms and Phrases. A Single Term is a single word, such as ex. "gear" A Phrase is a group of words surrounded by double quotes, such as ex. "landing gear" Multiple terms can be combined together with Boolean operators to form a more complex query (see below). 20 P age
Wildcard Searches To perform a single character wildcard search, use the "?" symbol. The single character wildcard search looks for terms that match that with the single character replaced. ex. to search for "text" or "test" you can use the search: te?t To perform a multiple character wildcard search, use the "*" symbol. Multiple character wildcard searches looks for 0 or more characters. ex. to search for "test", "tests" or "tester", you can use the search: test* You can also use the wildcard searches in the middle of a term. ex. "te*t" or "t*t" would find "test" as a result You can use "?", "*" or both at any place of the term: ex. *wr?t* will search for "write", "wrote", "written", "rewrite", "rewrote" and so on. Boolean Operators Boolean operators allow terms to be combined through logic operators. Search supports AND, OR and NOT as Boolean operators (Note: Boolean operators must be ALL CAPS). The OR operator is the default conjunction operator. This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the OR operator is used. The OR operator links two terms and finds a matching document if either of the terms exist in a document. This is equivalent to union using sets. The symbol can be used in place of the word OR. 21 P age
Boolean Search: OR To search for documents that contain either "landing gear" or just "landing", use the query: ex. "landing gear" landing or ex. "landing gear" OR landing Boolean Search: AND The AND operator matches documents where both terms exist anywhere in the text of a single document. This is equivalent to an intersection using sets. The symbol & can be used in place of the word AND. To search for documents that contain "landing gear" and "wheels and tires", use the query: ex. "landing gear" AND "wheels and tires" Boolean Search: NOT The NOT operator excludes documents that contain the term after NOT. This is equivalent to a difference using sets. The symbol! can be used in place of the word NOT. To search for documents that contain "landing gear" but not "wheels and tires", use the query: ex. "landing gear" AND NOT "wheels and tires" Proximity Search Search supports finding words from a phrase that are within a specified word distance in a string. To do a proximity search, use the tilde "~" symbol at the end of the phrase. For example to search for "air" and "precautions" within 3 words of each other in a document, use the search: ex. "air precautions"~3 22 P age
Boost search keyword! Search provides the relevance level of matching documents based on the terms found. To boost the relevance of a term, use the caret "^" symbol with a boost factor (a number) at the end of the term you are searching. The higher the boost factor, the more relevant the term will be. Boosting allows you to control the relevance of a document by boosting individual terms. ex. landing gear ex. landing^5 gear ex. "landing gear"^5 "inspection" 23 P age

There are two basic functionality concepts behind the toolbar icons: One group of icons switches the viewer into a certain mode of operation, indicated by a pressed appearance of the icon and by an according change of the mouse cursor. The viewer will stay in a certain mode of operation until a different mode is selected. The Hyperlink Navigation Mode is the default mode when starting the viewer. The second group of icons either performs one time viewing operations on the displayed image or will launch a dialog for further user interaction, but will leave the current mode unchanged. Furthermore, the red liner specific part of the toolbar can be expanded or collapsed by the user as described for the Show/Hide Red Liner function below. The sections of the viewer toolbar and their attached functionalities are as follows: Toolbar Section Toolbar Icon Function Description Detach When clicking into this area and dragging the cursor, the toolbar will be detached. Right Mouse Click: A click with the right mouse button zooms out the displayed image by 10% (i.e., a factor of 0.9) around the position of the click. This function will only be executed when the zoom factor is larger than 1.0. switches into Magnify Area Mode. In this mode, the viewer opens a smaller window on top of the displayed image which contains a zoomed in view of this image around the current cursor position. In the magnify window the zoomed in part of the displayed image will follow the cursor movements in the view window. The magnify zoom factor can be adjusted with a slider attached to the magnify window. The magnify window can be detached and moved to a different location. switches into Birdseye View Mode. View Window Section Toolbar Icon Function Description Fit All Fit to Height Fit to Width Show/Hide Scrollbars scales the displayed image to entirely fit into the current view window, while keeping the aspect ratio of the image. scales the height of the displayed image to entirely fit into the current view window, while keeping the aspect ratio of the image. scales the width of the displayed image to entirely fit into the current view window, while keeping the aspect ratio of the image. shows or hides the vertical and horizontal scrollbars, depending on the previous state. Scrollbars will only appear when the displayed image is zoomed in. When hiding the scrollbars, a zoomed in image can be moved when switching the viewer into Pan mode. Hotspot Section Toolbar Icon Function Description Highlight Hotspots Hotspot List detects all CGM Application Structures (hotspots) within the displayed CGM. As long as the mouse button stays pressed, the viewer keeps highlighting all hotspots. Upon releasing the mouse button, the highlighting will disappear. Upon loading of a CGM image into the viewer, this drop down list will be filled with a list of the identifiers (IDs) of the Application Structures (hotspots) within the image. This drop down control allows the following interactive user operations for identifying a specific hotspot within the image: Highlighting a Specific Hotspot: A click on an ID in the drop down list will highlight the 49 P age
corresponding hotspot object with a solid red contour line. Finding a Specific ID: Vice versa, moving the mouse cursor on top of a hotspot object (so that it becomes highlighted) will display the corresponding ID value within the drop down list control. Permanently highlighted hotspot objects appear as a result of the Highlighting a Specific Hotspot function described above, or when navigating from one CGM image to a target CGM through a hyperlink which includes a highlight target hotspot fragment. Display by ID: When selected, the drop down list is displayed by hotspot ID. This is the default setting. Display by Name: When selected, the drop down list is displayed by hotspot name.
