1 Intrductin t i-rack i-rack is a netwrk based 240V pwer cntrl unit fr cmputer server racks. It allws turning pwered devices n r ff n the server rack just by visiting a webpage & cntrlling the pwer utlet f the device cnnected. The Current lad n i-rack can be mnitred via the web page and the LCD screen. In the case f exceeding user set Current lad threshlds i- Rack has the capability f ntifying the incident via email r SNMP traps. i-rack allws viewing the status f the server rack pwer n each individual pwer utlet, allws custm cntrlled timed rebts fr each pwer utlet and adding delays n start-up in the case f a pwer failure allwing certain devices t turn n prir t ther devices in a selected sequence. All this is dne by remtely accessing the device via a web interface. i- Rack als allws viewing the current cnsumptin by all the utlets via the web interface. In the case when netwrk cnnectivity is dwn, as an alternative utlet cntrl access methd, i-rack prvides a serial prt cnnectin t perfrm the fundamental cntrl t yur utlets. When in use, i-rack is a netwrk element n the netwrk, thus it will have its wn IP address. i-rack cmprises an embedded web server. With a standard web brwser installed in almst all cmputers tday, yu can easily view i-rack web pages t mnitr status, cntrl pwer utlets remtely & t view the current cnsumptin. i-rack includes SNMP features where each utlet status r the current cnsumptin can be btained via SNMP GET cmmands, thus allwing mnitring systems t clsely mnitr the pwer f attached devices and the current lading. i-rack can als ntify when Current lad threshlds are met via SNMP Traps. Features Up t 20 web cntrlled pwer utlets. Available in 4,6,8,12,16 & 20 pwer utlet versins t suit yur applicatin. Pwerful embedded micrprcessr driven, with netwrking features. 2 Assumptins Cnfigured i-rack netwrk parameters accrding t the Quick Install Guide, and that the IP address f the device is knwn. This manual is t explain hw t use i- Rack nce successfully installed n the netwrk. 3 Accessing i-rack via Web Interface i-rack web interface can be accessed by visiting the URL using its IP address n a web brwser. Eg: if IP address is 192.168.1.105, pen web brwser and visit http://192.168.1.105/ The fllwing welcme page shall be laded. i-rack is DHCP enabled when shipped. It will btain a DHCP address if cnnected t a DHCP enabled netwrk. Use the i-rack Finder sftware tl t btain the DHCP address. i-rack by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSIR 03/07
4 Intrductin t User Grups i-rack has tw effective user grups. Administratr (1 user) User (3 users) Each user grup has different level f grants. 4.1 Administratr Grup The prduct is released with the fllwing user credentials fr the Administratr grup. Username admin Passwrd admin This user is respnsible fr cnfiguring the unit, its users & each utlet. An administratr can als cntrl each utlet & view the status f the server rack. Please cnfigure the secret questin & answer fr administratr. In the case f a frgtten passwrd this set f questin & answer is required t reset the administratin passwrd. The administratr shuld als set different usernames and passwrds fr the user grup. The default User grup credentials are described in the User Grup subheading. T lgin as the administratr, click n Lgin as an Administratr frm the main web page. Enter the administratin username & passwrd, and then click OK. i-rack by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSIR 03/07
4.2 User Grup The prduct is released with the fllwing user credentials fr the User grup Username user1 user2 user3 Passwrd pwd1 pwd2 pwd3 These users are respnsible cntrlling each utlet & viewing the status f the server rack T lgin as a user frm the User grup, click n Lgin as a User frm the main web page. Enter the username and passwrd, then click OK. 4.3 Security n i-rack 4.3.1 Brwser Credentials Authenticatin is required t view any f i-rack web pages. i-rack uses basic authenticatin. Click n Clse Windw buttn t lgut frm i-rack. This will clse the windw. 4.3.1.1 Changing the Passwrd Only the administratr user can change the passwrds fr bth administratr & user grups. Lg in as the administratr and click n Manage Users n the menu. Set the relevant user credentials frm this menu. 4.3.2 Frgtten Passwrd A frgtten passwrd fr a user cannt be reset. The administratr shuld prvide the crrect passwrd by lgging in and retrieving the passwrd set fr each user. If the administratr passwrd is frgtten the nly methd t reset the passwrd is t answer the secret questin set by the administratr. Answering this questin crrectly will reset the administratin username and passwrd bth t be admin. 5 Cntrlling & Viewing Status f Outlets Bth Administratr and User grups can cntrl each individual pwer utlet. Outlets are cntrlled frm the Outlet Cntrl menu. This is the default page laded when a user lgs in t i-rack. The parameter Sequence Timer is an imprtant parameter fr each utlet and is displayed n this page. The Sequence Timer is a value in secnds hw lng it will take fr an utlet t turn n when the rack is pwered. (Nte: the utlet startup preference has t be setup in such a way that it will turn n) The Sequence Timer will als used when the utlet is rebted. Each utlet will turn ff fr duratin f Sequence Timer + Glbal Rebt Delay. Eg: i-rack has a Glbal Rebt Delay f 30 secnds. Outlet 10 has a Sequence Timer value f 14 secnds. Outlet 10 On Pwer Failure Outlet Startup is selected t be Always On i-rack by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSIR 03/07
When server rack is pwered n: Outlet will be pwered n in 14 secnds When utlet 10 is rebted r glbal rebt is selected utlet 10 will be pwered in 44 secnds. 5.1 View Status & Ttal Current Cnsumptin f Outlets Status can be viewed by bth administratr & user grups. Click n Status Display frm the menu. The current cnsumptin is displayed graphically using a slider bject. The slider bject is clur cded fr easy identificatin fr mnitring ttal current cnsumptin by i-rack. The legend describes the status f each utlet. 5.2 Turning On Outlets Select the utlet & select Turn ON frm the cmb bx frm the cntrl actin clumn. Click the Apply buttn. Multiple utlets are als selectable. Outlets will be turned n nly if they were turned ff. 5.3 Turning Off Outlets Select the utlet & select Turn OFF frm the cmb bx frm the cntrl actin clumn. Click the Apply buttn. Multiple utlets are als selectable. Outlets will be turned ff nly if they were turned n r while rebting. Turning n an already ff utlet will have nt affect. 5.4 Rebting Outlets Select the utlet & select Rebt frm the cmb bx frm the cntrl actin clumn. Click the Apply buttn. Multiple utlets are als selectable. Outlets will be rebted nly if they were turned n. Rebting an already ff utlet r a rebting utlet will have nt affect. Each utlet will rebt with a delay f Sequence Timer + On Pwer Failure Outlet Startup secnds. 5.5 Glbal On All utlets can be turned n by selecting this ptin. Select Glbal ON and click apply. PS: All utlets that are rebting r turned ff status will turn n. 5.6 Glbal Off All utlets can be turned ff by selecting this ptin. 6 Alarms n i-rack i-rack has the fllwing alarm cnditins Current lad in Warning cnditin Current lad in Alarm cnditin Current lad in Critical cnditin Current lad in Nrmal cnditin ( clearance f an alarm) In the case f any f these cnditins ccur, i-rack can be cnfigured t ntify the user via SNMP traps & via email. The frnt panel LCD display shall als indicate if in alarm cnditin. An blinking red LED will als attract attentin. 6.1 Email Messages Cnfigure Alarm threshlds fr the Current lad by ging int the Alarm Cnfiguratin menu item. Cnfigure the Current Warning, Alarm & Critical levels in milliamperes here. 7 Serial Prt Cnnectin n i-rack i-rack prvides a RS232 cnnectin (EIA-561 RJ45 type) t cntrl the utlets and t btain the Current lad independent frm the netwrk. The serial prt will perate nly if enabled. The device has the fllwing settings by default. 8 Cnfiguring i-rack Only the administratin user can cnfigure i-rack. The fllwing can be cnfigured: i-rack device cnfiguratin, includes SNMP, Serial Prt, SMTP & Current Lad threshld cnfiguratin Lading defaults n Outlet cnfiguratin Manage users Clear alarm, cnfiguratin and event lgs Each f the abve shall be described in the fllwing sectins. 8.1 i-rack Device Cnfiguratin The fllwing can be set by clicking n i-rack Cnfiguratin : Device settings Netwrk interface settings SMTP Settings SNMP cmmunity & Netwrk Manager cnfiguratin Serial prt settings Date & time f i-rack Lading factry defaults There is als an ptin that allws rebting the server rack fully. PS: nte that all utlets will be tuned ff and then each utlet will perate as set as each utlets start up preference. Device Settings Allws setting a device name & a lcatin fr i-rack. Enter apprpriately and click Apply. Netwrk Interface Settings Allws setting the netwrk parameters fr i-rack. Allws selecting the bt up preference. I.e.: DHCP r Static. If DHCP is selected the netwrk parameters entered will be ignred. Within 60 secnds (page needs t be requested after 60 secnds) these fields shall be updated with the DHCP btained IP address. Enter apprpriately and click Apply. If a DHCP server is nt detected, i-rack sets in with a fall back IP address as described belw: Fall back IP address: 192.168.1.100 i-rack by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSIR 03/07
Fall back subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Fall back gateway: 0.0.0.0 SMTP Settings (Email Settings) Allws setting the SMPT mail server address and the email addresses that messages are sent t when in alarm cnditin. All email addresses are sent an email when in alarm cnditin. If yur mail server requires authenticatin tick the Enable Authrisatin check bx & prvide the username and passwrd fr SMTP authenticatin. SNMP Settings Allws setting the read/write SNMP cmmunities n i-rack and the Netwrk managers fr receiving trap ntificatins. All Netwrk Manger IP addresses shall be sent with a trap when i-rack is in an alarm cnditin as well as the clearance f the alarm. Lading Factry Defaults The fllwing actin is perfrmed: User accunts, credentials, secret questin & answer are set back t defaults. Device name & lcatin shall be reset. Each utlet name, ID, sequence timer, preference f startup & glbal rebt timer values are reset. SMTP, SNMP, Serial prt settings are set back t default Alarm, cnfiguratin & event lgs shall be cleared. Netwrk settings r present utlet status will nt be affected. Thugh, when server rack is pwered n the next time, the default preference (ALWAYS ON) f utlets shall be used, hence all utlets will be pwered n. i-rack by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSIR 03/07
8.2 Outlet Cnfiguratin Click n Outlet Cnfiguratin : The first utlet cnfiguratin page will be laded. T cnfigure each utlet click n the buttn displayed with the ID s f utlets. Set the name f the pwer utlet, the ID f the utlet (ptinal), sequence timer value in secnds & the startup preference & click Apply. The Glbal Rebt Delay can be set while setting any f the utlets. PS: nte that this is cmmn t all utlets. 8.3 Manage Users Click n Manage Users t cnfigure user credentials. User grup credential fr all three users shall be displayed. The administratr passwrd can nly be changed by entering the present administratr passwrd nly. The secret questin & answer fr administratr shuld be set here. 9 Alarm, Cnfiguratin and Event Lgs n i-rack i-rack stres internal lg entries fr each alarm, event and cnfiguratin change that ccurs. These are three separate lgs with up t 20 entries f each. When the lg reaches mre than 20 entries, the ldest entry is remved and the latest entry is added. Therefre, at any given time it is able t review the last 20 entries f alarms and events. T keep a recrd f the alarms and events, it is recmmended t print f the table r cpy and paste the table t a file (eg: t Ntepad) frequently. Each lg entry cnsist a time stamp and a descriptin f the alarm, event r the cnfiguratin. i-rack by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSIR 03/07
The cnfiguratin lg can be viewed nly by the administratr user grup. The administratr can als clear bth types f lgs by clicking the Clear Lg buttn. A user frm the User grup can nly access the event lg. The cnfiguratin lg will nt be accessible by this user. 10 SNMP n i-rack 10.1 Intrductin t SNMP Features n i-rack i-rack is a SNMP (Simple Management Netwrk Prtcl) agent. The current status f any utlet & the ttal current cnsumptin can be retrieved via SNMP plling techniques. i-rack at has trap sending capability when in alarm cnditin. The exceeding f the Current lad shall sent SNMP traps t the Netwrk Manager IP addresses. 10.2 SNMP Implementatin i-rack supprts the SNMP System grup in the MIB-II Objects SysDescr, sysobjectid, sysuptime, syscntact & sysname.
