1. Release ntes Release 3.0 adds the fllwing new capabilities: Defaults. Yu will ntice a new Defaults icn n the Hme ribbn. This Defaults capability allws yu t ppulate entry fields acrss multiple segments within an Arius prject with a specific value r calculatin. Data: The Defaults feature can be used t ppulate assumptins r ther input data fields with a single value acrss multiple tables and multiple segments in a batch. Fr example, yu might set the Decay Rati fr multiple methds and/r multiple segments, r yu can replace blank incremental cells in data triangles with zers. Exhibits: Yu can define sme r all factr selectins in exhibits t default t using specific statistics, with minimum and maximum rules, acrss multiple exhibits and multiple segments in an Arius prject. Fr example, yu can default yur selected develpment factrs t a predefined rw f infrmatin n the exhibit (e.g., prir selectins, yur preferred industry data, r the 7-year vlume weighted average), the tail factr based n the Inverse Pwer Curve, and n selectins less than 1.000 n all incurred/reprted develpment exhibits, and acrss five segments. Values in exhibit selectins that are derived by defaults are identified by green brders surrunding their cells, r blue brders if they are verrides based n minimum/maximum rules. Append New Evaluatin extends default selectins t the new perid fr selected develpment factrs based n the last cell in the series, s yu dn t have t manually update these defaults t include the new perid. Minimums in Cmparisn f Ultimate Reprts: In additin t applying minimums and maximums t selected factrs (via the Default Exhibits prcess described abve r by clicking n the blue gear icn in an individual exhibit), yu can als set minimums n default selected ultimates in the Cmparisn f Ultimate reprts. Fr example, default selected ultimate lss can be set with a minimum f incurred lss, t prevent negative IBNR. Values in ultimate selectins that are derived by defaults will cntinue t be identified by green brders surrunding their cells, but the brder will be blue if they are verrides based n a minimum rule. Dynamic Tail Factr Analysis (TFA). The curve fit rws displayed n develpment exhibits t assist yu in selecting tail factrs can nw be dynamic, refreshing immediately when the underlying data changes. An ptinal checkbx n the TFA windw turns this dynamic capability ff and n. (Nte that yu will need t run a new TFA calculatin in versin 3.0 fr this ptin t display.) Print scaling ptins. We als fixed the fllwing items reprted by ur clients: When saving a new cllectin, under certain circumstances the system culd appear t be waiting r nn-respnsive, even thugh it was in fact wrking. The system culd shut dwn under specific scenaris invlving editing a user-defined Methd table that included the MAX functin in ne f the frmulas. We fixed an errr that culd ccur when imprting a previusly exprted user defined bjects definitin file, particularly if that file included UDO table IDs between 801 and 804. The Series as Clumns graph culd ptentially freeze under certain situatins invlving a very large number f histrical factrs being graphed. 2. Installatin requirements Arius is designed t last well int the future. Basic system requirements are as fllws: Minimum perating system: Micrsft Windws 7 + SP1 r newer (bth 32- and 64-bit versins) Minimum hard disk space: 3.5 GB Minimum RAM: 1024 MB, thugh 2048 MB r mre is recmmended Related tls: Micrsft Office 2007 r newer (Arius des nt supprt Micrsft Office XP). Arius and its API supprt 32-bit versins f Micrsft Office. The API als wrks with 64-bit Office with a Registry update available frm the Supprt sectin f actuarialsftware.cm. Arius requires the Micrsft.NET Framewrk 4.6.1. (Many Windws installatins may already have this; yu can cnfirm it at Cntrl Panel Prgrams and Features.) An Internet cnnectin fr license authenticatin. 3. Installatin instructins Nte: Administratr privileges are required t perfrm this installatin. New Installatins Fr new users this will be a multi-step installatin. 1. Make sure any pen Excel wrkbks are clsed befre beginning the Arius installatin prcess. 2. Click the Dwnlad link and Save (d nt Open) AriusSetup_v30.zip nt yur cmputer. 3. Lcate the dwnladed file and unzip it t Extract (d nt Run) AriusSetup_v30.exe. 4. After it is extracted, right-click n the EXE file and select Run as Administratr. It will first need t install a cpy f the MATLAB runtime system (r reinstall an updated cpy). When yu select Yes t dwnlad the runtime files, the system dwnlads the MATLAB Installer frm ur site A, and yu can then fllw the instructins t install the runtime. Nte that it culd take 4 r 5 minutes t dwnlad the file, depending n yur Internet access speed, and anther 5-10 minutes t install MATLAB. 5. Yu will then re-run the AriusSetup_v30.exe install; as described abve, right-click n AriusSetup_v30.exe and select Run as Administratr. B A Alternatively, yu can dwnlad the runtime directly frm Mathwrks: site: http://www.mathwrks.cm/prducts/cmpiler/mcr/index.html versin: R2013b (8.2) 32-bit B Arius requires that the Micrsft.NET Framewrk versin 4.6.1 is installed with yur perating system. This may already be the case fr many users. Hwever, if the installatin rutine detects that this is necessary, it will install the updated Framewrk directly frm Micrsft s dwnlad server. After installing that update, yu may be directed t restart yur cmputer, and then yu will restart step #5 again ne last time. Yu may als see installatin prcesses fr Micrsft F# Runtime and the Micrsft C++ Redistributable. Bth may be required as part f the install as well, thugh neither shuld require restarting the install prcess after they run. Upgrading an Existing System If yu previusly installed Arius n this cmputer, the installer will determine if a reinstall f MATLAB is required. Previus installatins f Arius will be remved autmatically during this upgrade. All f yur data files and custmizatins such as user-defined bjects r reprts will be preserved. 4. Additinal infrmatin After installatin, the applicatin is listed as Arius in yur Start All Prgrams listing. The system installs with three sample prject files. They can be fund at: C:\Users\<yurname>\Dcuments\Milliman\Arius\DemFiles r perhaps displayed as Libraries\Dcuments\Milliman\Arius Arius_Sample.apj Sample data with 5 segments, a mix f shrt-, medium-, and lnger-tailed lines f business. This is intended t give yu a sense f the system's capabilities and a sampling f hw the mdels can be set up with different assumptins fr different lines. Nte that all f the segments dn't necessarily wrk with all f the mdels (much like in the real wrld...). ODP_Mack_Hayne.apj Sample data with 3 segments, shwing a detailed implementatin f all three families f stchastic mdels fully parameterized.
