New Start Screen: Top RIGHT corner next to your Sign in Name is the OFF button. To the Right of Off button is a Search icon You can click on Search icon OR just start typing anywhere in open area of Start Screen Down Arrow in Bottom Left Corner takes you to All APPS 1

CAN SORT ALL APPS BY NAME, DATE INSTALLED, MOST USED, OR BY CATEGORY WHEN YOU FIND AN APP THAT IS ALREADY INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER JUST RIGHT CLICK TO PIN IT TO THE START SCREEN or TASK BAR 2

TO SAVE YOUR FAVORITE SITES TO THE START SCREEN: o You MUST use the INTERNET from the START SCREEN o Click on the Internet Icon from the START SCREEN o Type in the address of the site on the Address Bar at the bottom of the screen Click enter to go to the Site o Click on the Favorite Icon (the Star with a Circle around it) o Click on the PUSH PIN then CLICK on Pin To Start Most of the time your new Shortcut Icon will be to the far right of everything else on your Start Screen. You can then drag it into the group you want on your computer. 3

CLICK on the VIEW TAB UNCHECK first box under Start Screen if you want to open at the Start Screen. Otherwise leave it checked. 7

STARTS UP FAST INITIALLY LOADED WITH LOTS OF TILES Modern APPS (LINKS AND SHORTCUTS) CUSTOMIZE FOR WHAT YOU WANT ON YOUR START MENU Modern & Legacy Apps SOME TILES ARE MODERN APPS AND SOME ARE LEGACY PROGRAMS Tap vs. Click TOUCH vs. MOUSE Generic ways to say it: Choose Select Hit For Touch Screen would be a TAP For Mouse would be a LEFT CLICK 8

APP vs. PROGRAM Microsoft calls all TILES Apps Modern Apps like Travel, Sports, are launched from the START SCREEN Legacy Apps like WordPad, Paint, WORD, Excel, PowerPoint can be selected from Start Screen, but go to the Desktop and launch. Modern Apps can NOW in Windows 8.1 be Pinned to the Start Screen or Taskbar on the Desktop Legacy Apps can be Pinned to the Start Screen, Taskbar, and as Shortcuts on Desktop Note: In Windows 8.1, new Apps (programs) you install no longer appear automatically on the Start screen; you have to find them in the Apps list -- and then you can pin them to the Start screen yourself. Same thing goes for old Apps on a PC you ve upgraded to Windows 8. RIGHT CLICK: The power of the right-click is everywhere. (To right-click on a touchscreen, hold your finger down for a moment. Or, at the Start screen, drag down on a tile a short distance.) 9

WINDOWS START BUTTON on the bottom left corner of your screen. When you RIGHT CLICK on it from ANYWHERE you get the following menu: NOTE: The Start screen is simply an exploded view of the old Windows 7 Start menu. In other words, it doesn t list every program on your computer you customize it to only show the ones you want to keep handy. 10

MAPS APP: If the MAPS App is not on your Start Screen just type Maps anywhere in an open area of the Start Screen Right Click on MAPS Click on Pin to Start 11

CLICK on Search and get directions Box in top right corner: TYPE the City and State you want to SEARCH for or Get Directions in the BOX 12

On this screen you can do THREE things: o GET DIRECTIONS o FIND PLACE NEARBY o SAVE as a PLACE in your FAVORITES 13

Type in your NICKNAME (or it will default to City Name your Searched For) CLICK on the SAVE Icon in the top right corner. 14

RIGHT CLICK anywhere on the MAP you will get a MENU at top and bottom of the Map You can PIN this MAP to the Start Screen for later reference or CLICK on FAVORITES to add to your Favorite List of Maps 15

THIS IS WHAT YOUR FAVORITES WILL START TO LOOK LIKE AS YOU POPULATE YOUR LIST OF MAPS 16

CLICK ON THE DIRECTIONS FOR YOUR SELECTED DESTINATION AND YOU WILL GET A VISUAL MAP AS DISPLAYED ABOVE. YOU CAN PRINT THE DIRECTIONS SHARE THE DIRECTIONS VIA E-MAIL TO SOMEONE ADD THE DIRECTIONS MAP TO YOUR FAVORITES 17

ANOTHER WAY TO ADD TO FAVORITES RIGHT CLICK ANYWHERE ON THE MAP YOU WILL GET A MENU CLICK ON FAVORITES 18

ADD A NICKNAME (If you don t add a Nickname it will default to the name of what is in Box A you can go back and edit the nickname later if that happens) CLICK ON THE SAVE BUTTON 19

THIS IS WHAT YOUR FAVORITES WILL START TO LOOK LIKE REMEMBER: IF YOUR NICKNAME NEEDS TO BE CHANGED JUST RIGHT CLICK ON THE MAP TILE AND CLICK ON EDIT CHANGE THE NAME AND CLICK SAVE 20
