This course will introduce the user to a Mobi and the Workspace software. This tool allows the instructor to annotate and work alongside of the students as you model the lesson which helps everyone pay attention, participate, and learn. At the end of the course the user will understand the features and tools that are available and how to build lessons to engage the students. 1

Mobi Hardware Sync Button Charging Cable 2

Teacher Mobi Learner Mobi The teacher Mobi has a larger KWIK screen The screen is useful when incorporating CPS and ExamView with a mobi The Pens must be docked into the slot on the back of the Mobi to charge Push the pen all the way in to the slot you will feel a spring action when the pen is full in place Look at the KWIK screen to verify that the pen is receiving a charge Then pen has a white toggle button near the grip Pressing the down toggle indicates an eraser this is tricky when writing with the Pen Charging cords are to be plugged into the top of the mobi Look at the KWIK screen to verify the Mobi is charging Type 1 USB charging cord that connect to the PC PC must be turned on to charge Mobi and Pen Type 2 USB charging cord that connects to an electrical wall plug Type 3 USB docking station holds 3 Mobi units upside using the 3 silver bars on top of the Mobi Pens tend to fall when Mobi s are upside down check the screen to indicate if pen is charging The Mobi and the pen each have a rechargeable battery Do not replace the batteries with normal batteries ISD does not purchase batteries for the devices work with your building treasurer to order batteries 3

Mobi Setup *** Please put in a ticket for ISD to install the latest version of Workspace on your computer *** Turn on the Mobi device The Mobi will beep and the KWIK Screen will display the Interwrite Mobi logo Plug the USB RF dongle into a USB port on your computer It is best practice to always use the same USB port Make sure the USB port allows for easy access to the Sync Button on the RF Device If this is the first time the RF Device is plugged into the computer, a reboot maybe necessary Click on the Start button Choose All Programs Open the einstruction folder and then open the Device Manager folder Click on the Device Manager icon It will appear as if nothing has happened This has forced Device Manager to run in the background Device Manager communicates between the RF and the Mobi In Windows 7, click on the Show Hidden Icon button located at the right side of your task bar A popup window will appear It displays the items running behind the scenes Click on the einstruction icon Select the einstruction Device Manager 4

The Mobi should appear in the window with a green check mark This indicates that everything was installed properly and the device is on, connected and ready for use If a red X appears over the icon, you need to sync your Mobi device With the USB RF Dongle plugged into the computer, it should have a blue light Press the blue light and it will begin flashing With the Mobi device turned on, press and hold the blue sync button on the back Once the light stops flashing on the RF Device, the Mobi and the RF Device are communicating You can right click on the Mobi icon to Remove it from the Device Manager This is important if your building shares Mobi s and you are not always guaranteed the same device A sync will refresh your Device Manager and connect the Mobi the next time you use it Your options will change when you right click the Mobi icon based on whether the device is active or not What is Firmware? It is the chip on an electronic device that stress permanent instructions to power up, initialize hardware, ensure components are working and engage the software to run the device. Click on File located on the Device Manager window Click on the Firmware Update tab Uncheck the Remind me button Click Check for Updates Click on OK to install the Firmware updates on your RF Device 5

The above message is just a confirmation window Do not unplug the device during the update Click on Next to begin the process Place a check in the box next to the device and click on Update Notice that the screen displays your current version and the new version number Click on OK to begin the update process 6

Wait while the update occurs This could take several minutes to complete A confirmation window will appear letting you know the update has been successful Click on Finish Repeat the same steps to update the Firmware on the actual Mobi The RF Device will need to be removed before you begin the update on the Mobi Plug the Mobi into the USB port on the computer using the charging cable The Mobi will show as connected in the Device Manager screen Repeat the above steps to update the Firmware on the Mobi 7

Mobi Double left click on the Workspace icon located on the desktop The program can also be accessed by click on the Start button Choose All Programs Open the einstruction folder Open the Interwrite Workspace folder Click on the Workspace icon The software is designed to be used with a Mobi A Mobi is NOT required to use this software Using a Mobi with the software is a bonus Once you click on the Workspace icon, a toolbar will appear on your screen This toolbar indicates that the Mobi Workspace software is running As powerful as the Mobi is, it is merely a wireless mouse Hoover the pen above the white lined paper (on the flat surface of the Mobi) and watch the mouse icon move Double click on the Word 2010 icon on the desktop to open the program Use the pen tool and touch the keyboard icon on the soft key menu of the Mobi Use the keyboard to type a sentence Use the pen to highlight a single word of the sentence Use the pen and change the font of the word Use the pen and change the color of the word Click on the red X to close the Office program 8

The floating toolbar To move the toolbar: Position the cursor at the top of the toolbar near the Workspace icon, and then click and drag to the desired location To resize the toolbar: Position the cursor at the edge of the toolbar until a double-headed arrow appears, then click and drag to resize The Workspace toolbar settings can be customized. Preferences Customize Toolbar The Workspace toolbar will become transparent if not in use Click on the toolbar to reactivate it 9

Click on the Blank Page icon located in the toolbar All annotations on a page are arranged in a single layer Change properties of selected annotation tool Navigate between pages and access shortcut menus 10

Build the Gallery Click on the Gallery icon located in the toolbar The Gallery content must be initialized for use the first time it is accessed. Click on Yes Click to highlight the proper Gallery Click on Build Wait while the Gallery content is building This process can take several minutes to complete 11

Once the Gallery is built, the content window will populate Make a selection from this pane to preview a thumbnail of content Notice the breadcrumb trail located below the content folder Use this to navigate through the gallery Click on Home to return to view all available Galleries 12

Once you have found a category of preference, drag it to the workspace window of Interwrite For this lesson, we are using: Home Math Manipulatives Pattern Blocks Click and drag the Category of choice to the workspace To begin the lesson, click on the green arrow 13

If the selection is not lined up properly, you will receive a green arrow Click the arrow to advance to the next slide If the piece absolutely lines up, it will auto advance to the next slide Click the drop down arrow and choose a different number sequence to make the process more difficult Right click on the Interwrite icon located at the top of the toolbar Choose File Close This closes the sheet of paper with the lesson, but leaves all of the toolbars and gallery open 14

From the toolbar, get a clean sheet of paper and navigate to the following For this lesson, we are using: Home Math Money Drag the register to the workspace Navigate to Home Science Food Select the following items and drag them to the workspace: Bread Milk Eggs Jam 15

Notice the size of each item Click on each item and use the resize bars to manipulate the image Move the item around to the proper location Click on the text tool from the toolbar or on the Mobi soft key strip Enter the instructions in the text box making any formatting changes using the format tools Choose the Line tool from the Toolbar The properties bar changes based on the tool you choose Select the line thickness Select the line type Click and drag to draw the line within the workspace 16

Format your slide to resemble the following: Save the file onto a network drive that your students are able to access Take your students to the lab, instruct them to open the file from the specified path and follow the directions 17

From the toolbar, get a clean sheet of paper and navigate to the following Home Graphic Organizers Drag Fact and Opinion to the workspace The chart appears in the workspace area Notice the Chart is sitting on Layer 1 Click on the + sign to add a new layer 18

Now Layer 2 has been added, and Layer 1 is still turned on Write the information as shown so that your Layer 2 matches the image below Click on the + sign to add a new layer Repeat this process until you have created all the necessary layers Notice there are now 6 layers 19

The checkmarks turn the layers on and off Click the checkmarks all off and turn them on one at a time to work through the lesson with the students. Notice that certain layers can be turned on at the same time to enhance the lesson 20
