Instructor Feedback Location and Printing This document will identify the locations in Canvas where students may find instructor comments, feedback, inline editing, and rubric scores and comments. Also included are directions on printing the feedback which is especially helpful when a student asks the instructor how to download a copy of their submitted work which includes the inline editing added by the instructor. Locating Instructor Feedback When Available within Canvas After a student has submitted an assignment within Canvas and the instructor has graded the assignment, students can click the title of an assignment from the Modules page and view the following information: Submission status with date/time of the submission - Ability to download the uploaded version Note: the uploaded version will also be in the students Files area Grade if assigned Instructor comments listed by date/time Instructor media comments listed by date/time Student comments listed by date/time Ability to click Re-submit Assignment Note: students cannot remove a submitted file from a Canvas assignment. If the student clicks Submission Details, they will see additional information. Title of the assignment, who submitted the assignment including date/time it was submitted and notification if the assignment was LATE The assigned grade The scored rubric with instructor feedback click Show Rubric Instructor comments listed by date/time Instructor media comments click the play button to watch the media comment Student comments listed by date/time Under Add a Comment: students can reply to the instructor Turnitin Originality Report if enabled by the instructor Added Attachments Students can click View Feedback to see inline editing comments made by the instructor on the submitted assignment Ability to click Re-submit Assignment Clicking the title of the submitted document will view what was submitted Page 2
Clicking Show Rubric When Show Rubric is selected, the following will display: Rubric score per criteria NOTE: instructors can alter the score in each row. Total rubric score Green areas indicate the student proficiency within each criteria contained in the rubric The green comment bubble indicates instructor feedback is present. Click the green comment bubble to see additional feedback Click the x to close the comment. At the top of the rubic is a X. Click the X to close the rubric. Page 3
Clicking View Feedback When available, clicking View Feedback allows students to see inline editing completed by the instructor. Scroll through the document to see the comments. Click the X to close the View Feedback window. The following window will display when the View Feedback button is clicked. Page 4
Select Download Annotated PDF to retain the instructor feedback. Select Open with and make sure the program to view the PDF is Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. Alternatively, the file could be saved. If Save File is selected, the file will download to the computer. Click OK. Page 5
Printing the Annotated PDF If the student wants to print a copy of the paper with the instructor feedback, this can be accomplished by going to File, Print within the browser window. When the Print window displays, select Summarize Comments for a print version that organizes comments into an inserted page within the document. Click OK. Page 6
Viewing Turnitin Feedback To view Turnitin Feedback, click the bubble with the percent. Note: the bubble may show various colors and percentages depending on the amount of plagiarism within the document. Pink is used to indicate the highest amount of plagiarism. The Turnitin Feedback will open in a new window. Click the X to close the opened tab and return to the course. Page 7
Navigating to Overall Instructor Feedback and Comments Students may want an overall view of their grades and instructor feedback/comments. Students should click Grades in the left navigation. Click Show All Details. Please note that clicking any of the assignment titles will also take you to the Submission Details page. Page 8
Within Show All Details, the following information is displayed. Conversations Within Conversations, the inbox of Canvas, all instructor comments and student comments are tracked per assignment. As comments are added, new messages are generated to both the instructor and student related to the comment. Click the conversation to see an expanded version of the comments. Use File, Print command within the browser to print a copy of the conversation. Click the Share icon conversation window to open the assignment containing the comments. within the Page 10
