This utility allows you to merge data into the the PipeDesigner 3D software database from other sources. The other source must be in the proper format prior to processing a merge. You can also use to export data that can be merged into another PipeDesigner 3D software database. Quick Steps: PipeDesigner 3D Data Editor / Tools / Start menu / QuickPen PipeDesigner 3D / QuickPen PipeDesigner 3D Definitions The following definitions are used in the instructions below. Source Database This database contains the data you want to merge into the Target database. Target Database This is the database you will be merging the source database into. Navigation is set up as a wizard. Each screen allows you to define and/or select the appropriate information required. There are common buttons in the wizard screens that allow you to easily navigate the wizard. Advances to the screen directly following the one you are on. You must complete all required information on the current screen before you can go to the next screen Directly below the window label, you can click return to the previous screen(s). to Clicking Cancel discontinues the merge process and closes the procedure/screen. 6

Information Before you begin the merge process, review the general information below. The data available for merge is based on the information included in the source database. The procedure allows you to "pick and choose" the data you want merged from the source into the target database. If you did not merge all data in the initial procedure, you can merge additional data from the source into the target immediately after the initial merge is complete. You can merge additional data into your target database or overwrite existing data. Caution - Use caution when using the overwrite option. This procedure actually deletes matching items that are in both the source and target database. Those items are then recreated in the target database from the source. It is possible to lose data from your target when using this option. will add new items and folders; however, new item detail will not be merged into and existing item unless you use the overwrite option. 7

Source Database The From Database information screen allows you to define the source data. This is the data you will be merging into the target database. Trimble recommends that you review the General Information beginning this procedure. 7 before Source Database Tip If you are merging source data from a Microsoft SQL Server database, you must restore this data before you can proceed. Manufacturer Database Guidance This topic provides helpful information to assist you in merging in data from the Trimble Manufacturer databases. Source Database The Source Database 8 is the Manufacturers Database that you want to merge into the PipeDesigner 3D software. These databases are provided in an SQLite format so they can be merged easily simply by selecting the DB file in the Database Type field. A password is not required. The graphic below illustrates how your screen might display. Note: The Database file information is dependant on the location and file you are merging. Target Database The Target Database 11 is where you want to add the Manufacturer data. Typically, this will be your master PipeDesigner 3D database, but you may have setup other databases. Make sure you know where you want this data stored prior to selecting a target database. The graphic below illustrates how your screen might display. Note: The Windows Authentication and Database information is dependant on your system and where you want to add the data. 17

Selections for Merge Selecting options in the Perform the 13 screen defines how the Manufacturers data will be merged into the PipeDesigner 3D software. The following settings will generally be used when merging in this data: Include All Items For piping items that already exist For all other items that already exist Export/New Database Caution - Exporting or Creating a new database 19 is not typically used when merging in Manufacturers Databases. If you choose to use this option, your resulting database will include only the data from the Manufacturer based on the database file you have selected. No other PipeDesigner 3D software data will be included. 18

Exports/New Database The utility allows you the flexibility to create a new source database with specific information you can then provide to another individual. This procedure also works well if you have created data in a stand-alone of the PipeDesigner 3D software (or offsite) and want to add it to your master database.
