The E3SoHo experience in Warsaw pilot site: conclusions and lessons learnt ICT enabling energy efficiency in buildings: News from two social housing projects 06 May 2014 Mateusz ZGUTKA Mostostal

Contents 1. Introduction to Warsaw pilot site 2. Methodology for implementing 3. Specific ICT solution deployed in the pilot site 4. Installation in public areas 5. Installation in private areas 6. Installation of control cabinet 7. VAS: Visualization and Alert System 8. Final conclusions and lessons learnt in Warsaw pilot site

Introduction to Warsaw pilot site Location Owner Szancera, 5. Warsaw, Poland City of Warsaw Year of construction 2007 Number of floors 4 + ground floor Number of dwellings 48 in total 16 active in the project Number of users 111 in total 32 active in the project Building existing installations Heating: Central gas boiler DHW: Central gas boiler Pilot site team City of Warsaw: interaction with tenants ISEP: design of the ICT solution Mostostal: implementation Nobatek/CSTB: evalution of savings and social acceptance 3

Methodology for implementing Technical audit of the building Definition of measured value Technical feasibility study Installation in common areas Installation of central unit Installation in the dwellings Start testing and validation of the system YES Reconfiguration Not needed Configuration of backups and alarms Data transfer to ienergy Platform 4

Sensors and meters Wireless transmitters (868 MHz) Electricity (total and partial circuits) Cabled meters (M-bus) Hot water, Heating Wireless sensors (868 MHz, 433 MHz) Comfort (T), Occupancy, Windows Weather station (Modbus) PLC data acquisition and PC (MySQL) data concentrator Communications Communication infrastructure composed of ADSL router, LAN and WLAN Local storage Local database for data collection and storage in the pilot Remote storage and processing Migration system (SMD) uploads data from the pilot to ienergy platform Graphical user interfaces Tenants: specific dashboard developed for Warsaw tenants: VAS Building managers: BMUI Specific ICT solution deployed in the pilot site 5

Installation in public areas Checking the radio communication Installation of Internet connection in the building Drilling in shafts Cable Laying 6

Installation in public areas Replacing hot water and heat meters with meters supporting PLC network 7

Installation in public areas Wireless recievers installation and configuration 8

Installation in public areas Weather station installation 9

Installation in private areas Temperature, Presence, Reed switch. 10

Installation in private areas Electric energy meters (one for light & one for electric devices) 11

Installation of control cabinet Modem & router Connectors I/O modules Wi-Fi recievers Drivers Power suppliers 12

VAS: Visualization and Alert System User interface developed collecting requirements & feedback from tenants Main interface for tenants in Warsaw pilot site. Also available for the other two E3SoHo pilots Example of E3SoHo ICT solution interoperability: capability of integrating new UI through open web services Web application compatible with mainstream web browsers and optimized for tablets Functionalities Media consumption Physical/comfort parameters Alerts Summary of consumption and comfort data 13

VAS: Visualization and Alert System Average media consumption 14

VAS: Visualization and Alert System The possibility of using tablet only for monitoring media consumptions 15

Final conclusions and lessons learnt in Warsaw pilot site There is potential for achieving energy savings through ICT awareness tools However, the level of savings might not always ensure acceptable payback periods Initial energy consumption levels and energy costs are key factors for determining feasibility of investment It is difficult to decouple savings linked to the use of ICT tools from natural savings evolution Training session with tenants are key for maintaining their engagement Business models shall assess the feasibility of the costs associated to training programs High consumers shall be specially targeted for leveraging global savings impact at pilot level At the same time, further work on ICT interfaces is needed to make technology more accesible Tenants need to be more convinced about how ICT can help them to save energy 16
