Application Name: Current version: Required MicroStation Version: Required GEOPAK Version: ODOT_XSLabeling.mvba v11.07.15 XM or V8i XM or V8i The ODOT_XSLabeling.mvba application is used to draw basic labels on cross sections extracted from a Roadway Designer DTM file. The application can be accessed from the MicroStation pull-down menu by selecting ODOT > XS Utilities > XS Labeling, or by keying in the following command: The dialog shown below is opened. vba load ODOT_XSLabeling.mvba; vba run XSLabelingMain Initially, the dialog appears very similar to the Bentley XS Labeler that can be accessed from the GEOPAK Corridor Modeling dialog box. This application is a streamlined and simplified version specific to ODOT requirements. This version is not a full featured labeler and does not contain all the options available with the Bentley application. The Bentley application can be used for additional labeling options not supported by the ODOT application. The ODOT application is used to draw three types of labels similar to the labeling output from ODOT Criteria files. Each option is configured by use of the Station Label, Slope Label, and Elevation tabs. 1
General Tab The General tab is used for the following functions: Job Select the GEOPAK Coordinate Geometry GPK file for the labeling session. Chain This list box contains a list of all the chains in the currently selected GPK file. Select the chain corresponding to the cross sections drawn in the design file. Begin Station This list box contains a list of all the cross sections in the current design file for the selected Chain. Set the first station to start the labeling process. End Station This list box contains a list of all the cross sections in the current design file for the selected Chain. Set the last station for the labeling process. Include Station Label Check this option on if you wish to label the Station for each cross section when the Draw Labels button is pushed. The station will include the existing and proposed elevation information. The proposed elevation will only be included if the PGL point has been defined in the Station Label tab. Include Slope Labels Check this option on if you wish to include slope labels when the Draw Labels button is pushed. Include Elevation Labels Check this option on if you wish to include elevation labels when the Draw Labels button is pushed. Draw Labels Select this button to initiate the labeling process. 2
Station Label The Station Label tab includes the options shown below. Two Label Type options are available: Align with PGL Point Use this option for undivided highways to select the PGL point that will be used for the proposed elevation. An example of the station label is show at right. Divided Highway Use this option for divided highways to select the Left and Right PGL points as shown in the example below. The station labels include two proposed elevations for the left and right PGL points as shown in the example below. 3
Slope Label The Slope Label tab includes the options shown below. Slope labels are computed between two selected points. The order of the Start Point and the End Point is not significant. The slope will be computed between the two points and drawn half way between the points. Two Format options are available: Run:1 or 0.00%. The Id buttons are used to select the points to define the slope label. Once the Format has been selected and the points identified, select the Add button at the upper right of the Slope Label tab to add the information to the list box. In the example above, two pairs of points have been added to the list. The Delete button is used to delete the selected row in the slope point list. An example of the slope labels is shown below. The Run:1 labels are drawn on the level XS_P_Annotation using the current font. The 0.00% slope labels are intended for information only and are not typically shown on the final cross sections. These labels are drawn on the level XS_P_Text_Info. 4
Elevation Label The Elevation Label tab includes the options shown below. Three Elevation Format options are available: Elevation, Ditch Elev 1, Ditch Elev 2, or V-Ditch. The elevation types are shown in the examples below. Elevation A single point is identified and annotated as shown below. This format is intended for information only and is not intended to be shown on the final cross sections. The elevation data is placed on the level XS_P_Text_Info. Ditch Elev 1 A pair of points is identified representing the ditch bottom. The label is placed half way between the points below the ditch bottom as shown below. 5
Ditch Elev 2 A single point is identified representing the inside edge of the ditch. elevation and offset is labeled as shown in the example below. The With both ditch elevation options a flow arrow is drawn indicating the direction of flow. The arrow is drawn by looking ahead to get the elevation of the ditch at the next cross section. The ODOT cell DFA-P, which is contained in ODOT_Drainage.cel, is use for the flow arrows. When using the Ditch Elev 2 option, the point that is identified for the first ditch point is used as the location for the label. The second ditch point is used to define the width of the ditch for the placement of the flow arrow as shown on the example above. V-Ditch A single point is identified representing the ditch bottom. The label is placed below the point as shown below. The Id buttons are used to select the points to define the elevation label. Once the Format has been selected and the points identified, select the Add button at the upper right of the Elevation Label tab to add the information to the list box. The Delete button is used to delete the selected row in the elevation point list. 6
Preference Files The list of points contained in the Station Label, Slope Label, and Elevation tabs can be saved in a preference file for later recall. Two options are available to Save and Open the preference file. Save settings to a preference file Select Save settings to a preference file to save the current settings. By default, the settings file is saved using the following naming convention: nnnnn_xs_labeling.txt Where nnnnn = the name of the currently selected Chain. Example: CLPS185_XS_Labeling.txt Open a preference file The Open a preference file option is used to open a previously saved preference file. Note that only the point list information for the Station Label, Slope Label, and Elevation tabs is saved in the preference file. The General tab settings are not saved or recalled. 7
