Vibration Level Switch for liquid Overfill or dry-run protection Suitable for applications in confined spaces (fork length only 40mm) Electronics replaceable under process conditions Operating Principle The tuning fork is piezoelectrically energised and vibrates at its mechanical resonance frequency of approx. 1200 Hz. The piezoelectric elements are fastened mechanically and are therfore not subject to temperature shock limitations. When the tuning fork is immersed in the product, the frequency changes. This change is detected by the integrated oscillator and converted into a switching command. The models LS 5100 and LS 5150 are short versions without extension, whereas LS 5200 and LS 5250 can be ordered with extension tubes. The level switches LS 5150 and LS 5250 have a polished surface especially suitable for applications in hygienic industries. Therefore provide a fastening or straining directly above the tuning fork to fasten the extension tube. Make sure that the vibrating element is not subjected to lateral forces. Mount the instrument at a location in the vessel where no interfering effects can occur. The surface of the tuning fork should be parallel to the product movement. Moisture Turn the cable entries of horizontally mounted instruments downwards to avoid moisture ingress. For this purpose the plastic housing can be rotated by approx. 330. For vertically installed instruments, loop the cable connected to the instrument housing downwards so that rain and condensation water can drain off. Marking of welded socket Marking Thread starting point is defined. Remove therefore the supplied seal from the thread. This seal is not required when using a welded socket. Screw the level switch into the welded socket. The welded socket has a notch. Weld this socket with the notch facing upwards, or in the case of pipelines, aligned with the direction of flow. 4
