Home Page The home page show the latest entry in the diary. It provides a quick way to edit the last entry, to add a new entry and to view yesterdays doses by using the right arrow symbols. It also gives a number of BG averages. It is possible to quickly add and edit the most recent entry without changing page The large BG entry is colour coded to shown below target (blue), in target (green) and above target (red). Settings Page The settings page controls the app. The two most important settings are at the top. This is the link to the web site and is used to send data to the site and retrieve data from the site. Diary Upload indicates if entries should be automatically uploaded to the website. Auto Calculate QA and Set Glucose Targets are covered in the next slides. Auto-populate BI will add the regular BI doses automatically at the last time they were entered i.e before breakfast etc. The CP List allows selection between the UK and Australian CP lists. Auto Calculate QA The Auto Calculate QA function is enabled on this page. As soon as it is enabled the following disclaimer appears. It is important to understand it merely provides a calculation based on DAFNE rules and is a guide. It is NOT giving advice and cannot be considered as telling the user what action to take. ( this helps our legal department i.e MarkE sleep at night) DAFNE Online 2014
Auto Calculate QA (Settings) The Auto Calculate QA function once enabled provides a number of parameters. The text below each setting tries to explain what the setting does. The Round Calculation just allows selection between 1 and 0.5 as some pens allow 0.5 units. The override condition page allows extra calculations to be defined i.e set a different ratio and BG range in the morning from 06:00 to 10:00 rather than the default that applies for the rest of the day.
Targets (Settings) The targets page allows the setting of target ranges for pretty much every circumstance. The basic ones are before breakfast, before lunch, before dinner, before supper, before bed. There are also target ranges for exercise, hypos, corrections, driving etc, etc.
Diary Page The Diary page provides the BG Diary functionality and has a number of features. The first is not immediately obvious! If you swipe down the diary entries the app will check with the web site for any new entries on the site. If it finds new diary entries it will automatically download and display them. The Edit at the top actually enables the deletion on entries, when tapped all entries have a no entry symbol displayed on the left of them. To delete it, just swipe left. To edit any entry just tap it and the page changes to the diary entry page with the current values auto-populated. You can just change the entry as required and save it. Finally tapping on the plus at the top displays the diary entry page with no values populated and allows a new entry to be entered. ( Note if auto BI is enabled then a BI value may be populated if applicable.
Diary Entry Page The Diary Entry page provides the means to add a BG Diary entry. The time defaults to the current time but can be changed by tapping on it and scrolling to the correct date and time. The type allows selection of the usual before entries like breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper and bed. The Measurements section is all as per the DAFNE paper diary and DAFNE course. The red i symbol against QA insulin is there because Auto Calculate is turned on. Tapping on it shows all the values used in the Auto Calculate function. This is detailed on the next slide. The inject sites allow the recording of the location of injections and the comments section can be used to add anything like food eaten or exercise taken.
Diary Entry Correction Example This Diary Entry page shows an example auto correction. To do this I have changed the BG reading so it is avoid the target range. The suggested correction, shown as +1 can be explained by tapping the red I surrounded by a circle. This results in a pop-up window that is shown on the next slide.
Auto Calculate Example Details As shown in the previous slide the QA calculation Info is accessed by tapping the red i symbol in the QA Insulin section. This displays the pop-up as shown here. The example shown is for a BG reading of 10.2, since this is above the target range shown, a corrective dose is suggested. This is calculated using the data shown here. To avoid over correction the value of 1.68 has been rounded down to 1. If the Round Calculations to setting in the Auto QA Calculations settings page is set to 0.5, then suggested corrective dose will be 1.5. However this would only be useful if the delivery pen have 0.5 units.
Charts The charts page currently provides a line graph for daily, weekly and monthly readings. The orange line shows BG readings with dots for the actual readings. The green dotted lines are the target ranges set on the settings page, the peaks were due to a higher before bed target. This is an area of the app that is being worked on to provide a greater range of graphs as per the web site.
Carbohydrate Data This page allows access to the carbohydrate data provided in booklet form on the course. In settings it is possible to select the UK or Oz version. The categories match the ones in the carb book. An extra feature is the ability to add your own carb entries into the app. This is done via the + symbol at the top right of the page. The values entered are consistent with the fields of the standard entries. It is also possible to pick any entry in the carb pages and mark it as a favourite. It is then possible to view just entries that have been marked as favourites. Currently user entries on the site and app do not sync with each other. The two carb systems are standalone in terms of user entries and favourites.
Carbohydrate Data (User Entry) This shows an entry I have created in the app for my favourite food!. The others are a few of my favourite things.
Centre Codes Centre codes are required to validate a new user as having done a DAFNE Course. The following important points apply. Only one code needs to be valid at a time NOT one per graduate or one per course just one valid at a time. Codes last for 31 days BUT if they expire users can still sign-up. They then email us the code they have, we can check as shown that the code was valid and can change their account to be a graduate account. Codes apply to ONE centre only that s why the flyer prints the centre name to select when signing up. If users redo the course or a refresher they do NOT need to get a new code, sign up is for life!! If a user has no code because they did the course a while ago, they just need to contact us and we will get them verified by asking the DAFNE Programme Team to talk to the local educators.
