Introduction and Requirements HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 3

Introduction This quick start guide describes how to use HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take to transfer a virtual or physical machine directly on to the Scale HC3 cluster through either a physical to virtual (P2V) or a virtual to virtual (V2V) move. The material provided here assumes you are migrating a Windows machine and that you are familiar with Double-Take Move's product user guide. NOTE : This guide provides instructions for moving to a Scale HC3 virtual machine (VM) with Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on it. You can use different Windows operating systems (OS), but be aware that the instructions for conducting the transfer may differ somewhat. The transfer to the Scale HC3 VM may be done with a source machine that is physical or virtual. NOTE : This guide is for a one-time transfer of a single machine using HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take. For near real-time availability and failover for business continuity and disaster recovery, please see HC3 Availability Powered by Double-Take. HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 4

About About Double-Take Move Double-Take Move allows you to migrate physical and virtual workloads with real-time replication from a single, intuitive user console. It will migrate the entire machine--including the file system, permissions, attributes, compression, and encryption settings--without suspending production operations. About the HC3 Cluster The HC3 cluster combines the benefits of server virtualization and shared storage into a converged IT infrastructure platform where virtualized workloads have direct access to a distributed, scalable pool of shared storage and compute resources. The cluster eliminates complex virtualization and storage architectures for greater cost savings and improved management efficiency. HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 5

Requirements Requirements for this Quick Start Guide Prior to using HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take, ensure that the following requirements are met. Double-Take Move Meet all of Double-Take Move s requirements for use with your console, source, and target machines. Refer to the product's user guide. Have at least one machine license for HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take. If you plan to have multiple machines set up to migrate, be sure you have the appropriate license for each machine. Once a HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take license is activated on a source machine, you have 60 days to compete the job. Download the Double-Take Installation package from VisionSolutions. Currently, Double-Take version 7 is available. Have a Double-Take Move console machine that is different from any source or target machines. HC3 Have a configured and initialized Scale HC3 cluster available for use. Know how to create a Scale HC3 VM. Instructions for creating a VM are provided in the Scale Computing User Guide v4. Have a VM set up on your Scale HC3 cluster with Windows installed on it. In the case of this guide, Windows Server 2008 R2 is used. Ensure all drive lettering, for instance C:, D:, and E: on the source machine, are exactly created on the new Scale HC3 VM. The Scale HC3 VM drives must have ample size to accommodate the source machine data as well. This is a great opportunity to expand drives on Scale HC3 VMs for the future growth of the machine using the Scale HC3 cluster's shared pool of storage. Your Environment Ensure that an Active Directory domain is available for use with HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take. You will need to join all console, source, and target machines to the same domain. Ensure all machines involved in the migration have been given machine names you can use to easily reference them for HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take jobs. Have a virtual or physical machine available to configure for migration to the Scale HC3 VM. Have a mouse with two buttons available. Right click cannot always be mimicked on a VM console with a Mac mouse. HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 6

If everything passes the checks (green or yellow marks), the Finish button will be available. Click Finish to save the settings and start the job. HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 56

Step 9 The Console will return you to the Manage Jobs screen. The job will be shown in the mirroring process with the Activity set to Synchronizing and the Target data state set to Mirror Required. Compatibility, Feedback, Support, and Disclaimer HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 59

Known Compatibility Issues There is a known compatibility issue between the Double-Take software and the StorageCraft ShadowProtect software. There is a workaround for this issue but it can only be applied before the source server is failed over. Once a server has been failed over the workaround will not be applicable, and if you wish to use StorageCraft ShadowProtect as a backup software on the server you will need to start over and apply the workaround before failing over the source machine again. The steps for the workaround can be found in a Knowledge article available on Scale's online Portal. The Knowledge database is found under Support-->Knowledge and the article is titled "Double-Take and StorageCraft Compatibility Workaround." HC3 Move Powered by Double-Take Quick Start Guide - 60
