RE Series Rack from Eaton Product Presentation AUG 2018
Quick Overview What is Eaton s RE Series Rack Platform? RE Series is an amalgamation of the NR & RE Series with many value-add component enhancements; 1100kg Static Load (RE/NR is 800kg) 750kg Dynamic Load (When fitted with HD castors). NR = 225kg Jacking feet enabling adjustment from inside and outside the rack Galvanised rails (U labels front) Standard Cable Managers fitted ( wide racks in 27U, 42U & 47U heights) Top panel brush entry at rear (fitted as standard). RE/NR was plain. All SKUs have Aisle Containment capability (NR/RE was not compatible) Side panels with recessed lock (allowing baying of racks) Top panel twist-outs (on wide variants). Easier and quicker than old knock-outs. Baying kit RE Series is NOT a seismic rack 2

9U Rack Configuration Handy Hints 12U 18U 1U = 44.45mm 27U 42U 47U Rack Heights FEATURES & CONSIDERATIONS Shorter racks for office or closet deployments where space is limited *9U, 12U & 18U in Basic config. only (glass / steel doors only) Shorter racks sometimes have equipment sat on top of them Taller racks maximise the use of space & provide future expansion even if the space is not required Day 1 Check to see if there are any access problems to the install location RE Rack 9U, 12U, 18U* 27U 42U 47U 600 mm 800 mm Rack Widths wide racks for active compute infrastructure (power, cabling, server & storage hosting) maximises U density wide racks for cabling infrastructure (volume cabling & switch hosting) & mixed architecture deployments (power, cabling, switch, server & storage hosting) lessens U density but maximises flexibility 800 mm 1000 mm 1200 mm Rack Depths deep racks for cabling infrastructure (volume cabling & switch hosting) maximises U density but limits flexibility deep racks for active compute & mixed architecture hosting greater flexibility but slightly lower U density deep racks for active higher density compute applications provides greater flexibility for equipment & power infrastructure but lowers U density kg Rack Loading Higher static loads support higher equipment densities for fixed installations helps to future proof installations & improve flexibility Users may want to move configured racks from point to point. Dynamic load ratings indicate the total maximum combined load of the rack structure & equipment which can sensibly be move across a smooth & consistent floor Static: 1100kg Dynamic: 750kg* (* HD castors) Rack Grounding Racks should be grounded to avoid the risk of shock should powered equipment suffer a fault Higher specification cabling systems rely on clean grounding for optimal transmission Rack Grounding Kit option Rack Baying Where multiple racks are positioned side by side it is good practice to bolt the racks together - alignment helps room hygiene & optimal operation Bolting together helps avoid the risk of racks tipping when maintaining equipment, especially when racks are not fixed to the floor Rack Baying or Bolt Together Kit 11
Rack Configuration - Handy Hints FEATURES & CONSIDERATIONS RE Rack Solid Doors Solid doors provide lowest cost options Suitable for low density active equipment installations <1.5kW Glazed doors provide a clearer view of equipment & slightly higher levels of security Provide higher levels of equipment noise damping Glazed Front Plain Steel Rear Solid Glazed Door Solid Plain Steel Door Single Vented Steel Door Double Vented Steel Door Vented Doors Double Vented Doors Highest class vented door perforation providing 80% free area Vented doors enable racks to support heat loads of around 4kW (assumes air is conditioned in the room) Vented perforation provides clear view on equipment Complies with IP20 specification protects against solid objects up to 12mm diameter Matching single door perforation pattern Ideal for installs with limited space between rows of racks Ideal for installs in close proximity to walls or partitions Single Vented Steel Double Vented Steel wide In Rack Air Management Most of the power consumed by IT equipment is converted to waste heat Active equipment is commonly air cooled so the design of the rack should allow maximum air flow through the rack Generating cold air is expensive Blanking panels & vertical baffles helps avoid air recirculation in the rack and helps maximise the cold air cooling effect The EU Code Of Conduct recommends baffles & blanking Baffle Kits 19 Blanking Standard Aisle Containment End of aisle doors & over aisle roof panels enclose the space between rows of racks Cold aisle containment is used to enclose the cold supply air to create uniform delivery & maximise the air s cooling effect Hot aisle containment is used to direct the hot return air to the room s air conditioning to maximise the rooms cooling efficiency The EU Code Of Conduct recommends aisle containment Aisle Containment Power Distribution Most IT racks require some form of power distribution (rack PDU) Single Phase, 3-Phase & dual feed options Power can be top or bottom fed to the IT rack space PDUs are typically mounted at the rear of the rack & ideally need to be as compact as possible PDUs must me rated to operate in warm air streams (exhaust) Enhanced Cable tray or Brackets Option 12
