1. About Yammer network

Description Yammer is a private social network, which provides a simple way to collaborate, share knowledge, and engage everyone across your school. Communications on Yammer are secure and visible only to members of the ATS2020 project. Yammer is available as stand-alone product or as part of Office 365. For ATS2020 s Office 365, Yammer is available for all users. Users with an Office 365 account can sign in to Yammer with the same credentials.

Benefits Breaks down internal barriers. Connects people and lets them share information. Helps users to find answers, experts, and information in an easy way. Improves collaboration on a project. Helps strengthen communication skills. Helps reduce hierarchies.

External networks External networks can be created as an extension of the ATS2020 Yammer Home network. They are essentially their own networks, and operate much the same as the Home network. In the case of ATS2020, an external network has been created for each country participating in the project. These networks are private and only network admins can invite new members. Users can request an invitation which must be approved by a network admin. External networks differ in that they can enable collaboration between members of the Home network and external parties not participating in the project.

2. Connect to Yammer Home and External networks

Connect to Yammer Connect to ATS2020 s Office 365: http://office365.ats2020.eu Click on the App launcher icon and then click on Yammer

Connect to external networks On the left panel, click the Settings icon at the bottom of the page. Click on your countries external network, e.g. ATS2020 Cyprus. To go back to the ATS2020 Home network, click on the Settings icon and then select ATS2020.

Browse for external networks If your countries network is not shown, click on the Settings icon and then select Browse External Networks (see previous image). Click Join next to your countries external network.

3. Yammer Portal user interface

Viewing conversations options Discovery: Contains all conversations that are most relevant to you, based on your subscriptions and your interactions within your Yammer network. All: Shows the conversations to which you have access within your network. Following: Shows the conversations that you actively subscribe to, and all conversations your followers have participated in or liked. You see conversations about topics that you follow, and conversations from groups that you have joined.

Groups navigation pane On the left of the Yammer portal page, you find navigation options for all the groups to which you have subscribe. The groups are sorted by relevance, with the group in which you participate the most appearing at the top. If you need to search within Yammer, you have a search box on the left side of the Yammer navigation pane.

Home, Inbox and Notifications Home: Directs you to your main feed page.

Home, Inbox and Notifications Home: Directs you to your main feed page. Inbox: Takes you to the inbox, where you find information about conversations in which you are tagged, or announcements in a group or network to which you belong.

Home, Inbox and Notifications Home: Directs you to your main feed page. Inbox: Takes you to the inbox, where you find information about conversations in which you are tagged, or announcements in a group or network to which you belong. Notifications: Show all the likes for posts that you publish, or comments that you make.

4. Configure user profile

Profile information On the left panel, click the Settings icon at the bottom of the page. Click Edit Settings In the Profile page type the desired information about yourself, and change your profile picture. Click Save when done (scroll down to find it).

Notifications Click Notifications Select a network, e.g. ats2020.eu Select digest of message activity Yammer users can receive numerous email notifications. This can be somewhat overwhelming in the beginning. We recommend users deselect as many options as possible. Note: If you are a member of a group, and you don t want to miss any conversation in the group, subscribe to the group directly. Click Save when done

Preferences In the Preferences page, users can change their time zone and preferred language. Click Save when done

5. Create and search for Yammer groups

Yammer groups Yammer groups can be used to create a workspace dedicated to a certain topic, like a subject-specific class within a school, a project team, or a group of people with a shared interest. By using Yammer groups, a team or community can collaborate, initiate discussions and seamlessly share information, such as documents, notes, and links. Yammer has two type of groups: Public groups - anyone in the network can view content or contribute to the group's conversations. Private groups - the group's conversations are intended only for a limited group, invited or approved only from group administrators.

Create a new group In the navigation pane, click Create new group. Select whether the group is internal to your organization or external and will include people from elsewhere. Enter a Group name and add the names of people you want to invite as members. Under Who can view content? select Public or Private.

Search for existing groups In the navigation pane, click ATS2020 Groups or Discover more groups to see some Suggested Groups, based on your profile. To look through all of the groups in your organization, click View more groups. Alternatively, use the Search box, in the navigation pane. To join a group click Join. The group will appear in your Groups list.

6. Start or join a conversation

Start conversation from home page Type in the box that says, What are you working on? NOTE: By default, this posts your message in the All Company group, meaning everyone in your organization can see it. If you want a smaller audience, remove the All Company tag from the message, and enter the groups or individual recipients. Click Post.

Start a conversation in a group page Click on group name in your Groups list in the navigation pane. Type in the box that says, Share something with this group... The post will only be seen by members of this group.

Reply to a conversation in a group In the groups page, type in the box that says, Write a reply to respond to the last message in the conversation. Respond to an earlier post by clicking Reply directly below the post you want to respond to.

Now start connecting and collaborating using Yammer
