Open AutoCAD 2010 - either with a double-click on its start-up icon in the Windows desktop, or by using the method on the computer being used. 2. Make sure the coordinate numbers at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen are showing clearly. Right-click on the numbers, followed by a click on Absolute in the menu which appears. 3. Press the function key F9 or left-click the Snap Mode button in the status bar to ensure Snap is set on - the button highlights if on. 4. Press the function key F7 or left-click the Grid Display button in the status bar to ensure Grid dots are showing. 5. Call the Line tool with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/Draw panel 6. Move the mouse until coordinate numbers in the status bar read 40,250,0 left-click. 7. Move the mouse until the coordinate numbers show 270,250,0 left-click. 8. Move the mouse until the coordinate numbers show 270,100,0 left-click. 9. Move the mouse until the coordinate numbers show 40,100,0 left-click. 10. Move the mouse until the coordinate numbers show 40,250,0 right-click - the rectangle Exercise 1 appears on screen. Note The last figure of the coordinate number (0) can be ignored for all 2D work. 11. Place a 3 1 / 2 inch floppy disk into the floppy disk slot of the computer. 12. Select Save As... followed by a click on AutoCAD Drawing in the drop-down menu from the Quick Access toolbar. 13. In the Save Drawing As dialog which appears select 3 1 / 2 Floppy (A:) in the Save in field and enter 2_Exercise01 in the File name field, followed by a left-click on the Save button of the dialog. 14. The drawing will be saved as a file with the name 2_Exercise01.dwg on the floppy disk. Note: A USB Flash drive (pen) or similar device can be used for this purpose.

Page 2 Chapter 2 Exercise 2 Note If you have saved the acadiso.dwt drawing template as suggested in Chapter 1 of the book Introduction to AutoCAD 2010, when you open AutoCAD 2010, the acadiso.dwt template will load automatically. You must however close your drawing after saving it, followed by opening the acadiso.dwt template: 1. Close your drawing with a left-click on its Close button at the top right-hand corner of the AutoCAD drawing area. Note it is the lower of the two Close buttons, the upper one will close AutoCAD 2010 if it is clicked. 2. Left-click the Open icon in the Quick Access toolbar. 3. When the Select File dialog appears, click Drawing Template [*.dwt] in the Files of type list followed by a click on acadiso in the File list. The click the Open button of the dialog.

At the command line: _line Specify first point: enter 60,200 right-click Specify next point or [Undo]: enter 255,200 right-click (i.e. for the X coordinate 60 + 195) Specify next point or [Undo]: enter 255,100 right-click (i.e. for the Y coordinate 220-120) Specify next point or [Undo]: enter 60,100 right-click Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: enter c (for Close) right-click Note: The first entry 60,220 could have been any other suitable coordinate number. The other coordinates are found by addition or subtraction from that first number. 3. Save the drawing to your floppy disk with the file name 2_Exercise02.dwg. Chapter 2 Exercise 3 1. Close the previous drawing and open the acadiso.dwt template. 2. Left-click the Line tool from the Home/Draw panel.
