Q2Midi Convert Cue Lists to Midi Files Available for Mac and Windows Import.txt and.pdf files Import/Export native cue lists in tab delimited format Export Midi files Generate new Midi files Importing.txt or.pdf files This is a two step process first click on the [Text] or [Pdf] key and select the file. The file is then loaded and an initial analysis is made of the layout and timecode format. At this point you can check if there is a separate out point. Note: pdf files are converted to text files and are normally easier to read as pdf files. Raw Imported.txt/.pdf file Once imported the first line of the first cue will be highlighted, if this is not correct click on the first line of the first cue and the parameters will be recalculated.

Outpoint on new line Check when outpoint is on separate line to inpoint, normally set automatically Timecode Format Normally displayed automatically selections will be added to if new formats found Building a Formatted List Depress the Build Key to see a formatted list as shown below Notes: The symbols in the text area indicate new lines or tabs in the text file Timecode Start This value is used for the start of the midi file Timecode Standard This value is required to set the correct timing in the midi file Sort The cue list may be sorted on any of the following by clicking on the appropriate header CB Electronics 09 May 2012 2

Cue Number In Time Out Time Character Name Display Key The Out and Character columns on the formatted list may be enabled/disabled using the [Display] key. Edit Key When lit any field may be edited by clicking on the field or selecting the field using the tab or cursor keys Renumber Key Write incrementing numbers starting from 1 in the Cue Number Column. Parse Key Some cue list formats allow the separation of further information at this stage, check the Text column and look for patterns in the data, on this example the Character and script may be separated. Back Key If you are not happy with the list that is geberated use the back key to return to the first page and consider changing the start line and if necessary check Outpoint on new line. Then depress the build key and check the result CB Electronics 09 May 2012 3

Note Only one box shoulkd be checked in any column except for the +Line2 column Exporting a.mid file Midifile Key Use this key to generate a.mid file that can be loaded into Protools or any other workstation to cue the VM15 streamer. Multi-character files When converting multi-charactyer files there are two options as follows 1) Generate one midi file for all characters sort by in time then depress the Midifile key 2) To Generate one midi files for each character - position the cursor on the start line for each character in turn the depress the Midifile key, the cues will be generated until the timecode is before the current timecode. Generating a new cue list Use the [New] key on the first page to generate a new cue list file by hand, this will open the formatted list display and enable the [Edit] key. Saving a modified cue List Use the Menu file/saveas to same a new list in.cbl format Loading a modified cue list Use the [CBL] key to load.cbl files, these will load directly into the formatted display and may be updated using the [Edit] key CB Electronics 09 May 2012 4

Setting the Streamer Trigger Offset When used to trigger a streamer the cue needs to fire a 2 seconds early depending on the streamer timing. The best way to do this on Protools is to set a midi offset as follows 1. Setup\MIDI\Midi Studio (Apple Midi Setup) 2. If installed correctly your USB Midi Interface should be visiable 3. Click on "Add Device", name it "Streamer" 4. Click on "OUT" arrow MIDI interface and drag it to "IN" arrow of the "Streamer" device added in step 3. 5. Close AMS [Apple MIDI Setup] 6. In ProTools select (click on) the midi track 7. Open View\Edit Window - Views\Real Time Properties 8. In the MIDI track Click on "DLY" Change to " -" [Advance] Change timebase to "ms" Make the value 2000 [ for 2 second streamer] CB Electronics 09 May 2012 5
