Southeast Missouri Amateur Radio Club Minutes of December 3, 2012 The monthly meeting of the Southeast Missouri Amateur Radio Club was called to order on Monday, December 3, 2012, at 1903 by President Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, with 18 members and no visitors present. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Karen Brewington, KDØJMO, and were approved as read. Treasurer Judy Bradley, KCØWXS, reported that last month s balance was $2,192.11. Judy paid $650 to Dennis Karnes, the tower climber, and $51.65 to Ernie Chiles for gas for the tower climber leaving us with a new balance of $1,490.40. The treasurer s report was approved as read. Old Business Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, reported that the 146.820 machine is now up and the new height is 220 feet. Ernie stated that it was a good thing that we changed it out as things were

every worn out. Reports are now coming in that we have excellent reception. We still need to change out the power supply but otherwise; it is good for about 10 to 12 years. Barry Doyle, ACØWL, said that he went around the area and was able to get in as far north as Perryville/Altenburg and almost to the Cape Airport on the south end. A big thank you to Dan Russell, KDØIXM, Barry Doyle, ACØWL, and Mike McCrate, KDØGUH, for their help. Pictures are posted on the web site to show how windy it was that day. Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, reported that there was no ARES Meeting this month. Dan Russell, KDØIXM, will continue with the net. He usually has about 7 check-ins each time. Barry Doyle, ACØWL, reported that Skywarn will continue to use the 146.685 for the time being but may change to the 146.820 in the future. Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, reported that he received a nice thank you letter from the Cub Scout Cub Master. Barry Doyle, ACØWL, read the letter thanking us for all the help the club gave to the 2012 Jamboree. 23 scouts and 3 siblings made a total of 31 contacts that day. EOC coordinator Dick Knaup, KDØBSP, reported that he had no new news. There were no visitors this evening. Election of Officers for 2013: With no further nominations, Dan Russell, KDØIXM, made a motion to accept the current slate of officers. Klaus Mueller, KDØNAV, seconded the motion. By a unanimous vote, the slate of officers was officially voted into office. The 2013 slate of officers is as follows: Barry Doyle, ACØWL, President Mike McCrate, KDØGUH, 1 st Vice President Penny Wheeler, KDØGXZ, 2 nd Vice President Karen Brewington, KDØJMO, Secretary Judy Bradley, KCØWXS, Treasurer Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, reminded everyone of the Christmas Party on December 8 at 1 pm at the Branding Iron. Activities at the event will be the announcement of the Ham of the Year and for those who wish to participate, an optional $5 gift exchange. We were reminded that there will be an auction at our February meeting but this time we will also have a Swap Meet prior to the auction where members can buy, sell or trade items they have or would like to have. The auction of donated items will follow with proceeds benefiting the club. New Business

A card was passed around to sign for Phil Nash, ACØIB, who is having knee surgery. Jody Rouse, KDØLDE, stated that the local Boy Scout troop is thinking of helping with Stars and Stripes this coming year to help them work on their Radio Merit Badge. Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, noted that there may not be a Stars and Stripes next year but that this would be on the agenda for new president, Barry Doyle, ACØWL, to work on. It will depend on the level of participation that we get. Before the meeting ended, Barry Doyle, ACØWL, read a list of accomplishments that retiring president, Ernie Chiles, WØRMS, has made during the past 5 years of his presidency of the club. Thank you to Ernie for all his hard work. Reminder: We are now accepting dues for 2013. They are $25 per family. The December meeting of the Southeast Missouri Amateur Radio Club was adjourned at 1933.
