Installation Instructions This kit includes the parts and documentation necessary to install the Ribbon Supply Spindle Maintenance Kit in the 105SL printer. Read these instructions thoroughly before installing this kit. Caution This installation must be performed by a qualified service technician. Remove the Ribbon Supply Spindle 3 Remove the Ribbon Supply Spindle Note Retain all parts removed during disassembly, unless otherwise directed. 1. 2. 3. Open the media cover. 4. Open the printhead control lever. 5. Caution Observe proper electrostatic safety precautions when handling static-sensitive components such as circuit boards and printheads. Connect yourself to an antistatic device. Caution Turn off (O) the printer and disconnect it from the power source before performing the following procedure. Turn off (O) the printer and disconnect the AC power cord and all data cables. Caution While performing any tasks near an open printhead, remove all rings, watches, hanging necklaces, identification badges, or other metallic objects that could touch the printhead. 4 Remove the Ribbon Supply Spindle 7. See Figure 2. To remove the electronics cover, remove the two Phillips screws. 8. See Figure 2. Starting at the rear top corner, lift the electronics cover up and out of the channel. Set the electronics cover aside. An older style ribbon supply spindle has a hex nut (on the electronics side) to secure the spindle. If your ribbon supply spindle has a hex nut, remove and discard the nut. To remove the ribbon supply spindle, remove the three Allen screws that attach the bearing housing. 11. See Figure 4. Align the three screw holes in the new ribbon supply spindle and bearing housing assembly with the three holes in the printer frame. Adjust the Ribbon Supply Spindle Tension 7 Adjust the Ribbon Supply Spindle Tension The new ribbon supply spindle has been redesigned to simplify the tension adjustment. The available tensions are either high or low. High tension engages both segments of the ribbon supply spindle, while low tension engages only the innermost segment. An easy way to determine which tension you need is to use your ribbon as a guide. 1. Which tension do you want? If Your ribbon is wide and covers or touches both spindle segments Your ribbon is narrow and only covers or touches the innermost spindle segment Then Use high tension. Pull the outermost black plastic spindle segment out and away from the mainframe. Use low tension. Push the outermost black plastic spindle segment in toward the mainframe. 05/02/2007 32131L-001 Rev. 8 Resume Operation Resume Operation 1. See Figure 2. Replace the electronics cover and reinstall the two Phillips screws securing it. 2. Open the printhead control lever. 3. Caution While performing any tasks near an open printhead, remove all rings, watches, hanging necklaces, identification badges, or other metallic objects that could touch the printhead. Load media into the printer. 4. Close the printhead control lever. 5. Close the media cover. 6. Reconnect the AC power cord and data cables. 7. Turn on (l) the printer. 32131L-001 Rev. A 05/02/2007
