BUSINESS LICENSE APPLICATION You must be a registered user before you can apply for a Business License. To assure that your application is processed in a timely manner the following items are required: All applications require the fillable PDF application to be attached. If your business performs retail sales, you must attach a copy of your Certificate of No Sales Tax Due from the Missouri Department of Revenue. If you are in the construction industry, you must attach a copy of your worker s compensation insurance. If you are a mechanical heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and/or electrical contractor, you must attach your qualifications. A Business License will not be issued until this is received. All payment must be received before any Business License will be submitted to the Codes Department for approval. No work should be performed until a Business License is obtained. LOGGING INTO YOUR ACCOUNT Prior to logging into the CAP site, you will have needed to register for a log in which is covered in another user guide called How to Register On CAP. Once the request to register has been approved, you may return to the eportal site and log in using the Log On button. Note: To apply for a Business License on-line, you will need to be logged into your account. If you are not logged in and select the Business tab and then select Apply for a New / Renew Business License, the system will send you to the log in screen. To log on to your account, simply enter the email that you used when registering for your eportal account and enter the password that you selected and press the Log On button. 1 P a g e

APPLYING FOR A NEW BUSINESS LICENSE Once you have logged into your account you will follow these steps to apply for your license. 1. Click on the Business tab at the top of the screen and select Apply for a New / Renew Business License. 2. The system will direct you to the Business Registration screen where you will enter your business information. 2 P a g e

3. The Company Name and DBA Name should be entered even if they are the same name. 4. Using the drop down arrows, select the Company Type and the Location for your business. 5. The Description field is to tell us what type of work you perform. 6. The Tax ID field is required if you perform retail sales. 7. The Open Date is the date you will be starting business in the city limits of Blue Springs. 3 P a g e

Business Type Search This section is where you add the type service or work you perform. 1. You will need to click Add Business Type. 2. Click on the drop down arrow for Code Category select General. Next, for Code Name enter a word that describes your business type and select the Search tab. 3. Click the correct circle then click Add Selected. Repeat this process until you have added all of your business functions. Example: Plumbing and Mechanical Contractor. 5 P a g e

Address to Use When you get to the Address to Use tab, you will need to reference the location where the business is located. 1. Select the New Search button to search for available addresses in the municipal database. If you don t know all of the address, for example you only know the house number and street name but not the street type, the search will bring up all of the addresses that meet that criteria. 2. Note: Only use Manual Entry if you are unable to locate the address by using the New Search button. 3. Press the Search button. 4. Once the results appear, you will need to select the address by clicking Select next to the results. 5. It is very important that you select the address type Location Address. This will let the city know that this is the location of your business. 6 P a g e

6. Press the Save button which replaced the Search button in the same box. Note: If Save is not available to select, make sure that you have the Address Type selected. Now that you have registered your business, you will be able to apply for and pay for your Business License. You should have been forwarded to a screen that looks like the following: 1. Click on Apply for a New / Renew Business License. 2. Next provide a Description of what your business does. 7 P a g e

3. The fees for your Business License are calculated using the information entered below. The Number of Employees should be entered based off of the people that physically do work inside the city limits of Blue Springs. The Late Fees do not apply to a New Business License, meaning if you are a new business to Blue Springs. Our Contractor Fee only applies to businesses that are mechanical heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and/or electrical contractors. This section is where you will need to upload your documents. All applications require the fillable PDF application to be attached. 2. Review Information 1. The next screen allows you to review all information entered. If you need to make a correction, click Back. If everything is correct, click Proceed to Fee Payment. 2. You should now have been directed to an Invoice for payment. You will need to select Make Payment. Once you have followed the steps to make your payment, your Business License will be submitted for review. It can take 7 to 10 business days for your license to be approved and sent to you in the mail. 11 P a g e
