Here s Why You Need a Cable Management System You ve made a substantial investment in your cabling infrastructure. A cable management system protects that investment by allowing you to: Maximize network reliability, employee productivity and revenue generation. Locate and correct network problems quickly. Re-create the physical layer of your network in case of disaster. Respond to organizational changes with faster additions and rearrangements. Reduce maintenance costs. Save technician time and allocate staff to more productive tasks. Optimize equipment and circuit usage. Plan for future network expansion. Increase Network Reliability and Reduce Costs with Cabling Management Software and Services Designed Especially for SYSTIMAX Installations When your enterprise depends on the network for critical or revenue-generating services, you can t afford downtime. A SYSTIMAX Structured Connectivity Solution (SCS) provides the performance and reliability you need to keep your network running smoothly. Now you can make the most of your infrastructure investment with SYSTIMAX Cabling Manager (CM) software. SYSTIMAX CM is a powerful Windows-based cable management tool designed to help you manage the physical layer of your telecommunications network... efficiently and costeffectively. Backed by Bell Labs known worldwide for quality and innovation it is engineered to work seamlessly with your SYSTIMAX connectivity solution. SYSTIMAX CM Version 1.10 is designed for installations with up to 20,000 outlets per building and requiring frequent moves, adds and changes. In installations where buildings are physically separate, it can support multiple databases. Much more than software, SYSTIMAX CM is a full-service solution that includes training plus assistance with set-up and operation. These services are provided at the local level by a network of Authorized SYSTIMAX CM Service Providers Lucent Technologies Value-Added Resellers (VARs) who understand your individual site requirements and organizational needs as

well as completing extensive training in SYSTIMAX products and related services. Beyond training, they can count on support from our own regional service centers and experienced software development team. Respond Faster to Emergencies or Everyday Changes An easy-to-use, Windows-based graphical system documents the critical information you need to locate cabling and connections. That means you ll be able to make everyday moves and changes faster... or quickly re-establish your entire network if disaster strikes. SYSTIMAX CM tracks the following information, easily and efficiently: Cabling and connectivity records for SYSTIMAX Structured Connectivity Solutions (SCS), as well as for other vendors structured connectivity components that are compatible with SYSTIMAX products. Records of active components that interconnect with your cabling system so you can track assets such as hubs, telephones, PCs, and switches. Cabling applications, including analog and digital voice, and Ethernet, ATM and Token Ring local area networks. Cabling topologies (standard star and zone wiring, sheathsharing) and media (100 ohm Unshielded Twisted Pair [UTP] copper, single-mode and multimode fiber). Outside plant and coaxial cable are not supported in Version 1.10. There is no plan to support shielded or screened cable. Service order requests and work orders. End user records and associated equipment. The system s flexible features allow you to: Make faster moves, adds and changes by quickly locating cables, outlets and available cable pairs. Streamline maintenance procedures, and assign technicians more efficiently, by tracking assignments and completion times.

SYSTIMAX CM: Designed for Fast Set-up and Ease of Use Model and name sites, buildings, floors, room and work areas in a hierarchical fashion in the system s database, using simple but flexible tools. Select installed items from the Component Library and add them to the database. All underlying specifications required to manage connectivity are built in. Place backbone equipment, work area outlets, horizontal cables and desktop equipment; name devices before they are distributed to work areas; then create circuits to interconnect the devices. Create fixed cables (e.g., horizontal, backbone and campus) quickly and easily using powerful tools. Generate reports on every aspect of your network infrastructure, from available pairs and equipment to a directory of users served by your cabling system. The system provides a selection of built-in reports with userdefinable features. All reports can be printed, saved or e-mailed. Plan for future network growth, and allocate resources more efficiently, by monitoring available capacity and inventory. Navigate Easily Between Graphics and Data With SYSTIMAX CM, you can create a site-specific database of cabling, equipment and users. This database can be synchronized with drawings of your network facilities, allowing you to navigate easily between graphics and data. As a result, you ll eliminate time spent tracing circuits and identifying equipment... so you can dispatch technicians more efficiently. View your entire physical network from the desktop. SYSTIMAX CM allows you to see how and where your network components are interconnected without making a trip to the telecommunications closet. The system provides data on each component as well as a graphical (CAD) representation. The graphical view also includes telecommunications closet layouts. Trace circuits easily, from end to end. The CAD view of both active and passive equipment (such as hubs and cross-connect panels) shows both available and in-use connector ports, highlighting the in-use connector ports. This feature makes it easy to initiate a trace from any point in the circuits, in either direction. Simplify Network Reconfiguration With Drag and Drop Interface SYSTIMAX CM makes it easy to document network changes and update your records. By using the intuitive graphical interface, you can readily reconfigure your physical network. For example, if you re relocating a PC from Room 101 to Room 103, all you need to do is move it on screen from the old to the new location and the system will automatically update the associated connectivity records.

SYSTIMAX CM will even generate appropriate work orders so that a technician can implement the necessary network changes... as quickly as possible, with minimal user disruption. Eliminate connectivity errors. SYSTIMAX CM is a rulesbased system with guidelines to ensure that the circuit connections you record are valid. For example, if you try to run a Category 5 application over Category 3 cabling, a warning will appear. Adapt SYSTIMAX CM Software To Meet Your Operation Needs SYSTIMAX CM was designed to be as responsive to your needs and preferences. For example, you can: Specify your own circuit assignments, or ask the system to do it. Record the equipment information that is most important to you by entering data in user-definable fields (e.g., IP addresses, serial numbers and other identifiers for any computer that is connected to your network). Initiate searches using flexible query commands. Import existing floor plan drawings from CAD drawing files as long as they are in an industry-standard formats (for example,.dxf and.dwg). Streamline the work order process. After the database is updated, work orders can be opened, printed and assigned to individual technicians, then closed out. The tasks associated with each work order are generated automatically, based on database changes. Sample CMS screen featuring circuit trace capabilities as shown bottom left. CAD image of building floor plan bottom right.
