A New Drive for Energy Efficiency Easy to set up, easy to use Designed specially for ease of use by Danfoss Food Retail customers, the AKD 102 drive is highly energy efficient, both a financially and environmentally responsible choice. It s a proven fact that variable speed drives save significant energy by providing better capacity control. As utility rates escalate, the return on investment in drives has never been better. There has long been a need for a drive specifically dedicated to refrigeration and HVAC applications and designed for food retail facilities. Working with food retail professionals, Danfoss has designed the AKD 102 drive series to speak their language. This drive sets a new standard in simplicity for setup, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Two standout features of the AKD 102 are: A Setup Wizard that makes the installer s work a structured, comfortable process using familiar refrigeration terms; A Built-in Manual that is context sensitive, easily accessed with a single keypad stroke. The setup wizard covers the three most common applications in supermarket refrigeration: Compressors Condensers Pumps All drives in the AKD 102 series, from 1.5 to 125 HP, have the same setup wizard, display, logical menu structure, and built-in manual, so that technicians use the identical methods for setup, commissioning, adjustment, and troubleshooting throughout the horsepower range. Built for your bottom line Using variable speed drives with your energy management system provides new possibilities for energy savings in any facility. 3

Reducing energy costs Fan & Pump Control Pumps With their substantial reduction in refrigerant charge, secondary refrigeration systems are seeing increasing application. These systems require pumps to circulate the secondary fluid. A variable speed pump maintains constant fluid pressure as system load changes, assuring maximum system efficiency. If the speed of a fan or pump is reduced by 50%, power consumption is reduced by 87.5%. An AKD 102 controlling the pump in a secondary refrigeration system with or without connection to an EMS has multiple safety and energy saving functions, including: No-flow detection An energy-saving sleep mode End-of-curve protection 120 100 Energy savings with a AKD 102 variable speed strategy are indeed substantial. High temperature operation The AKD is designed to deliver peak performance even in an ambient temperatures up of 122 F. DC coil A DC coil ensures that the power supply generates minimal harmonics. The entire drive is tested to conform to IEC-1000-3-2. Removable fan cover The fan cover can be quickly removed and remounted for easy cleaning. Hot pluggable display and keypad The local control panel can be plugged or unplugged during operation.
