Fastrack Release Notes Version 3.5X60 10/29/04 This document covers changes made to Fastrack since Version V3.4.R4 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Due to the descriptive graphics included, this document is best displayed and printed in color. 1. ALL Assignment Dialog We have made some improvements in the way you can navigate through the Assignment Dialog. While in the Assignment Dialog You can now move UP, DOWN, LEFT, or RIGHT using either set of arrow keys, as long as you do not have a text field open. You can now go HOME, END, PG UP or PG DN using either set of arrow keys, as long as you do not have a text field open. HOME moves you all the way to the left, and END moves you all the way to the right. Pressing [T1-T8] will select the corresponding Tracks, as long as you do not have a text field open. Pressing [Ctrl][0] thru [Ctrl][9] will select the corresponding Page, as long as you do not have a text field open. Pressing [00] now works when entering data. Turning the mouse wheel scrolls the Assignment Dialog. Turning the Jog wheel scrolls the Assignment Dialog. Pressing the [SPACEBAR] will check and uncheck boxes if they are highlighted. 2. ALL Keys Dialog When [SHIFT][KEY] is used to open the Effects dialog, we now default Key1 and KeyBus1 On, set the Bkgd A selection to Off, and turn off all active audio channels for the selected Event. Repeatedly pressing [SHIFT][KEY] will toggle between all the listed keyers. 3. ALL Preview Modes Pressing [Alt][PREVIEW] now toggles between the Jump, Immediate, Edit Mark, and Record Preview Modes. 4. ALL Audio Keyframe Points of Interest When in the Split Dialog, the [Left Arrow] and [Right Arrow] keys now travel between all keyframe POI on the audio channels that are selected in the dialog. 5. ALL Doremi V1 We have added a VDCP driver for the Doremi V1 Video Server. See TechNote #1 later in this document for additional information. 6. ALL Yamaha O2R96 V2 - We have added a Midi-Host driver for the Yamaha O2R96 V2. Note that the O2R96 V2 must have at least Version 2.0 software installed. 7. ALL Panasonic AG-MX70P - We have added a switcher only driver for the Panasonic AG-MX70P Digital Audio/Video Switcher. The switcher should be set for RS-422connection and Sony control. 8. ALL Sony DVS-2000C - We have added a driver for the Sony DVS-2000C Digital Video Switcher. 9. ALL New INIT item 1 A new INIT item has been added to the INIT Page; In Out Single Key Press. If you select Yes, the IN and OUT Keys repeat function will be disabled, allowing you to [Mark IN] a manually rolled source during a Preview or Record without the edit aborting. 10. ALL New INIT item 2 A new INIT item has been added to the INIT Page; Show Reel Name. When Off, the Device names are displayed in the Track labels. When On, the first 12 characters of the currently mounted Reel name for that Track are displayed in the Track labels. It is recommended that this item be On when "Ask to Mount Media" is set to Yes, so you can see the Reel names. 11. ALL Mixer & Switcher ON/OFF Swr On/Off and Mxr On/Off functions have been assigned to keys to allow them to be accessed within Macros. Press [Alt][SPLIT] to toggle the video switcher and press [Alt][A4] to toggle the audio mixer. 12. ALL Audio Transition Rates The transition rates for each audio channel are now displayed below the first transition keyframe in the Split Dialog. In the example below, transition rate is 1:15 for this channel. 13. ALL A/V Routing Switchers A problem where the Evertz, GV Performer, and AVS routing switchers, when used as a video switcher, would not pre-select the first crosspoint on the Timeline, has been resolved. 14. ALL Event GPIs A problem where Event GPIs would not display has been resolved. 15. ALL Exchange Tracks A problem where swapping Tracks in the Assignment Page would no longer work, has been resolved. 16. ALL GVG-200 Wipe Patterns Wipe pattern graphics have been added to the GVG-200 switcher driver. 17. ALL S&W HD-1012 Wipe Patterns Wipe pattern graphics have been added to the Snell & Wilcox HD1012 switcher driver. 18. ALL PB/E-E We have added the ability to toggle between PB and E-E on devices that support this command (most VTRs, Profile servers, and others). Press [Alt][STBY] to toggle only the selected Track. Press [Ctrl][Alt][STBY] to toggle all of the assigned Tracks with supported devices. When Tracks are set to E-E, the Track TC/Ctl timecode displays will change to yellow. 19. ALL Monitor Modes When switching at rest between sources, you can now select E-E preview through the Record VTR independently for either Audio or Video. 20. ALL Crash Record You can now put many models of VTRs and video servers into crash record directly from the Fastrack. See TechNote #3 later in this document for additional information. 21. ALL iswitch SD-21-1 Editware has developed a 2-input, 1-output SDI video switcher for use with Fastrack in cuts-only applications (such as News editing), or for use as a Preview switcher with any Fastrack application. The iswitch SD-21 fits in a PC slot of the Fastrack, where it derives both power and sync. ALL iswitch SD-21-2 - We have added Switcher and Preview Switcher drivers for the Editware iswitch 2 input, 1 output SD PC switcher. See TechNote #2 later in this document for additional information. 23. ALL Preview Switching During a Preview, when no Record Event is present on the Record Track, Fastrack will stay on the last source Track, and no longer switch to the empty Track. 24. ALL Jog Value Relative While in the Split Dialog, jogging F2 no longer exceeds limits, and no longer compresses the current keyframes. 25. ALL New Record Event TC The Default Timecode used when creating new Record Events, will now be the current TC condition when they are created. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 26. MODE Auto Assembly 1 The preliminary Auto Assembly Dialog is now available. See TechNote #4 later in this document for additional information. 27. LINEAR MODE Auto Assembly 2 A problem where transitions on Events Recalled from an EDL would not perform, has been fixed. 28. LINEAR MODE Mark IN We now ignore [MARK IN] on a Record Event, while that device is in Preview or Record. 29. LINEAR MODE Auto Cue A non-participating Track will no longer be auto cued to the CTI during a Preview or Record. 30. LINEAR MODE EDL Delete A problem where deleting edit lines from the EDL caused intermittent and varied memory problems, has been resolved. 31. LINEAR MODE Recall SPLIT The recalling of a Split Edit from the EDL now functions correctly. 32. LINEAR MODE EDL & Work Bin A problem where occasionally EDL and Work Bin times were not displayed, has been resolved. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 33. PROFILE 45 Event Limit An arbitrary limit of 45 Events applied when making a Movie through the Optimize Record Dialog, has been removed. 34. TECHNOTE #1 DOREMI V1 MP2 VIDEO SERVER Introduction Fastrack controls the Doremi V1 MP2 server as source and record devices simultaneously, and can load and trim Clips, and play them back-to-back on a single channel. This driver was developed using a DOREMI V1 MP2 with 4.42z system and 1.16 front panel firmware, and a R2/P2 configuration. Connecting the Doremi V1 MP2 video server to the Fastrack VS & SE editors: 1. For simultaneous PB and RECORD capability on the Doremi, connect RS-422 9-pin D connector machine control cables from available ports (P1-P24) on the Fastrack RS-422 panels to the RS422-1 and RS422-2 connectors on the rear of the Doremi chassis. 2. Feed the same sync source to the Doremi as to the Fastrack. Note that the Player Device Name must contain the channel number as part of the name (Track 1 in the example below). Adding Timecode to a Fastrack Record Event for the Doremi Record Channel: When we create a Record Event on the Doremi, the default timecode In-point for that Event is 0. If a specific or different timecode start point is desired: 1. Mount the Record Event 2. Press [SET IN]. 3. Type the desired TC number. 4. Press [ENTER]. The SD-21 is a 2-input, 1-output SDI video switcher on a PCI card, designed for specialized applications that require cuts-only switching, or for Preview Switching for editing. Electrical Specifications Maximum current consumption from PCI bus; +5V ADC -5V ADC +12V ADC -12V ADC iswitch Hardware Installation 1. Remove top cover of the Fastrack chassis and board hold-down. 2. On rear of Fastrack chassis, unplug the top connector of the blue 25-D jumper cable. 3. Remove the internal 25-D sync cable connected between the rear chassis and the sync board. Leave the 25-D adaptor plate on the chassis. 4. Remove the PCI blank slot next to the sync board and install the iswitch board. 5. Install the single connector end of the new cable to the Fastrack chassis, (use longer screws), and plug the double end into the sync and iswitch boards. 6. Re-attach the rear 25-D jumper cable and replace the board hold-down and top cover. iswitch Driver Installation 7. Restart the Fastrack system and Windows will find the new hardware. 8. Insert the iswitch drivers CD and let Windows find the drivers. Once the drivers are installed, remove the CD. 9. To setup the COM port, navigate through these steps in Windows. a. Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / Ports(COM & LPT). b. Using a right mouse click, disable LPT-2 & COM-12. c. To crash record using a defined timecode, first assure that the record device s TC generator is set to INTERNAL and REGEN. 2. Press the [CONFG] key and enable Allow Crash Record. 3. Create a Record Event of the desired length. 4. In the Mode Dialog ([SHIFT] [MODE]), select Assemble as the Record mode. The Record Event will become magenta. 5. Position the device where you wish it to begin recording. 6. On the numeric keypad, type the timecode you wish the crash recording to begin with. The timecode will be displayed in the TC window of the Fastrack. 7. Press [SHIFT][RECORD] twice in rapid succession. The Event will begin recording with the desired timecode jammed into the TC generator. Crash record using external timecode 1. To crash record using external timecode, first assure that the record device s TC generator is set to EXTERNAL. 2. Press the [CONFG] key and enable Allow Crash Record. 3. Create a Record Event of the desired length. 4. In the Mode Dialog ([SHIFT] [MODE]), select Assemble as the Record mode. The Record Event will become magenta. 5. Position the device where you wish it to begin recording. 6. On the numeric keypad, type 123. The numbers will be displayed in the TC window of the Fastrack. TECHNOTE #4 AUTO ASSEMBLY Introduction The Auto Assembly function works in conjunction with the current EDL. To use the Auto Assembly feature, your Fastrack system must have the Linear Mode option installed and applied. Fastrack will Auto Assemble imported GVG.EDL lists or its own native.l2d files that have been generated in a Fastrack EDL Bin. The Auto Assemble Dialog Press [ASMBL] on the K6 keyboard. The Auto Assemble Dialog will open. Remove Other TL Events With this item checked, sources currently on the Timeline will be removed when an Edit is recalled from the EDL during an Auto Assembly. Ignore R Marks With this item checked, the selected Auto Assembly mode will be performed on all applicable edits, regardless of whether there is an R Mark associated with the Edit. Select All EDL Edits With this item selected, the first and last Edit numbers from the EDL will be entered into the From and Thru text entry fields, and the Beginning and End radio buttons will be selected. Mode With Mode A selected, the Edits defined in the From and Thru text entry fields will be performed in consecutive order, prompting you to Mount a new reel when necessary. An R Mark will be added to each Edit after it is performed. With Mode B selected, the Edits defined in the From and Thru text entry fields will be performed in consecutive order if the Edit s required reel is mounted. If the reel is not currently mounted, the Edit will be skipped. An R Mark will be added to each Edit after it is performed. From You may enter the desired starting Edit using the numeric keypad, or; Select Beginning to define the first Edit in the EDL. Select Current to define the highlighted Edit in the EDL. Thru You may enter the desired last Edit using the numeric keypad, or; Select End to define the last Edit in the EDL. Select Current to define the highlighted Edit in the EDL. Shortcut Keys The following shortcut keys may also be used when entering Edit numbers in the From and Thru text entry fields: [A] = All Edits [B] = Beginning Edit [E] = End Edit [C] = Current Edit Assemble Press the Assemble button to begin the Auto Assembly process. Cancel Press the Cancel button to stop the Auto Assembly process. Save Settings Press the Save Settings button save the current Auto Assembly dialog choices. Set & Clear R Marks An R Mark (Record Mark) is automatically displayed to the far right of an Edit in the EDL after it has been performed, to let the user and the system know that a specific Edit has been recorded. Unless the Ignore R Marks setting is selected in the Auto Assemble Dialog, the Auto Assemble process will perform all of the Edits defined in the dialog that do not have R Marks associated with them. R MARKS You may manually Set R Marks to Edits to prevent them from being recorded during an Auto Assembly, or Clear them from Edits to enable them to be recorded. SET With this item selected, R Marks will be Set or added to the range of Edits defined in the From and Thru text entry fields in the R Marks Dialog. Reset With this item selected, R Marks will be Reset or deleted from the range of Edits defined in the From and Thru text entry fields in the R Marks Dialog. Pressing the [RESET] key on the keyboard will also select the Clear radio button.. All Edits With this item selected, R Marks will be Set or Reset on all Edits in the EDL. From You may enter the desired starting Edit using the numeric keypad, or; Select Beginning to define the first Edit in the EDL. Select Current to define the highlighted Edit in the EDL. Thru You may enter the desired last Edit using the numeric keypad, or; Select End to define the last Edit in the EDL. Select Current to define the highlighted Edit in the EDL. Shortcut Keys The following shortcut keys may also be used when entering Edit numbers in the From and Thru text entry fields: [A] = All Edits [B] = Beginning Edit [E] = End Edit [C] = Current Edit The Auto Assemble Track When an EDL is loaded into the current EDL Bin, it is automatically displayed on the Timeline with blue edit line separators at each edit point. Edits with R Marks associated with them are green to show that they have been recorded. Edits without R Marks are displayed pink to show they have yet to be recorded. When the Auto Assembly process is initiated by pressing the Assemble button in the Auto Assemble Dialog, the next Edit is recalled to the Timeline, and the Record Event is displayed red for an Insert Edit or magenta for an Assemble Edit. Once the Edit has been performed, the Record Event is displayed green to show that it has now been recorded, and an R Mark is placed to the right of the Edit in the EDL.
