1 Welcome Welcome to the Schooltas Dashboard Guide. This guide describes the basics to get started as a Schooltas publisher or school. In our Schooltas Dashboard, you can create, enrich and license your books and pdf s for the Schooltas platform. 1.1 Sign in To get started, go to https://dashboard.schooltas.net. You will need a Schooltas account with publisher or school rights. Contact the Schooltas team to get access: tr@thiememeulenhoff.nl. 1.2 Dashboard This is the Publisher Dashboard. You can navigate to the different publishing features from here. To return to the Dashboard at any given moment, click Schooltas Dashboard in the left upper corner. In the right upper corner you can see the name of your publisher. If you click on the publisher s name, you can sign out. Page 4 of 63

2 Statistics Click the Statistics tab to view statistics about activity in your Schooltas books. You can only access this tab with the appropriate rights. If you cannot view this tab and you believe you should, please contact tr@thiememeulenhoff.nl. The following page opens: The statistics provide an overview of the texts, drawings and pins users create, update and delete in your Schooltas books. They also show how many wordwebs are played in your books. Page 6 of 63

3 Books If you want to offer books in Schooltas to your customers, the first step is to create a book by adding it to Schooltas in pdf format. 3.1 Create a book To create a book in Schooltas, click the Books tab or click Go to my books in the dashboard. In the next screen, you will see an overview of all your books in Schooltas. Right now, the overview is empty. Select Create book in the left sidebar to get started. Fill in the form. Page 7 of 63

3.1.1 Enter book information The table below provides an overview of what to enter where: Field Explanation Example Value Title Book Title Workbook A E-ISBN / EAN A unique EAN. This should be a 9789062287701 different EAN than the EAN of the paper book. Course The subject under which your book Geography will be displayed in Schooltas. If your subject is not in the list, please contact tr@thiememeulenhoff.nl Type The book type, select one from the Workbook drop-down list. Year The year of the school stage Year 3 Page 8 of 63

Please ensure the pdf meets the requirements Here, you can upload a jpg/png file for the cover. This is the thumbnail that users will see for the book. A1 The Geo 2nd edition 3.1.2 Pdf requirements In order for your pdf to be processed properly, we have minimal requirements for pdffiles in Schooltas. Please make sure your file meets these requirements because we cannot guarantee results if it does not meet these requirements. Layout The pdf file should have no printer marks All pages must be the same size (the trim, bleed, art and crop box must have the same setting set to 0) Page 9 of 63

If you want to use this feature, your PDF file should have a table of contents incorporated. A quick way to add a TOC is to add bookmarks in a PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Reader) If the table of contents is displayed there, Schooltas should also display it. For more information, check https://www.w3.org/tr/wcag20-techs/pdf2.html for information about how outline hierarchies are built in a PDF. 3.2 Edit book information If you entered the wrong information, no need to worry, it is still possible to change this. Return to the overview where you will see the new book you created and you select Details. Here you can find all the information you already entered. To change certain details, select the option Edit book. Page 11 of 63

You will see this screen again and you can change the details. Please note it can take up to 24 hours before the changes are visible for users. Page 12 of 63

4 Readers As a school/organisation, you can add your own content in the Dashboard, so you can offer your school s materials as pdf s to your students as Schooltas books. If you want, you can make the reader downloadable to your students. The options in this chapter are only available to schools, not to publishers. Publishers upload their materials as books. 4.1 Create a reader To create a reader in Schooltas, click the Readers tab or click Go to my readers in the dashboard. In the next screen, you will see an overview of all your readers in Schooltas. Right now, the overview is empty. Select Create reader in the left sidebar to get started. Fill in the form. Page 13 of 63

4.1.1 Enter reader information The table below provides an overview of what to enter where: Field Explanation Example Value Title Book Title Syllabus 2018 Course The subject under which your reader will Geography be displayed in Schooltas. Please ensure the pdf meets the pdf requirements. 4.1.2 Pdf requirements The maximum file size of the pdf is 150 MB. Schooltas enables automatic table of contents extraction. Page 14 of 63

Ideally, the layout of the pdf files should be set to spreads, only the first page must be single page. We do support single page pdf s, but some functions might not work optimally. 4.2 Edit reader information If you entered the wrong information, no need to worry, it is still possible to change this. Return to the overview where you will see the new reader you created and you select Details. Here you can find all the information you already entered. To change certain details, select the option Edit reader. Page 15 of 63

You can then change the reader title or course, change if you want to have the pdf downloadable or replace the pdf. Please note it can take up to 24 hours before the changes are visible for users. 4.3 Offering content to your users To offer the Schooltas readers to your users (students), your users need a subscription (to subscribe to your school) and then a license for the specific pdf( s). 4.3.1 Creating a subscription To create a subscription in Schooltas, click the Subscriptions tab. In the next screen, you will see an overview of all your subscriptions in Schooltas. Right now, the overview is empty. Select Create subscription in the left sidebar to get started. Page 16 of 63

Enter the number of unique students that can activate this subscription (1 or more) and the expiration date for the subscription. 4.3.2 Creating a reader license or teacher license The content will only be visible for the users after they enter license codes as well. When your users are subscribed to your school s content, you can give them reader licenses and teacher licenses, just like for publisher books (see 6 Licenses). Page 17 of 63

5 Enrichments In Schooltas you can enrich your books with different kinds of multimedia elements by adding different kinds of enrichment pins (called pins from now on) to the pages of your books. Pins that have been added to your book will only be visible for your customers with a license. Students and teachers can use them for more information as addition to the curriculum. An enrichment looks like the green symbols below. Please note that when you create a pin, it will be visible straight away to all Schooltas users with an activated license for that book. 5.1 The Schooltas pins There are different pins in Schooltas, each representing a different enrichment. They will all be described in the following sections. All of these pins can also be created as a Premium pin, they have a yellow core instead of a green one. Premium pins can be used to stand out from regular pins. 5.2 Open the Schooltas Editor Adding pins is done in the Editor. To open the editor, go to your book overview, find the book you want to enrich and select Edit. A new tab will open in your browser with your book. Here you can start adding enrichments. Page 18 of 63

5.3 Add new pin Right-click the spot on the page where you want to place your pin and select Add new pin. Choose the type of pin from the menu: Page 19 of 63

In the paragraphs below, these types of pins will be explained in greater detail. 5.3.1 Mouseover text for enrichments You can add mouseovers to all your enrichment pins (apart from text on page and shapes ) with a maximum of 50 characters. To do this, add or edit a pin, and use the option Mouseover text in the menu: Your users will then see this text when they hover over the enrichment in the book: 5.3.2 Premium pins Premium pins can be used to stand out from regular pins. To do this, add or edit a pin, and check the checkbox before the option Premium pin in the menu: Page 20 of 63

5.3.3 Text in popup A text pin contains added textual information to the book. Right-click the location where you want to add your pin, click Add new pin and then click Text in popup to add a text pin to the page. An edit bar opens on the right side of the screen, where you can enter the text and an optional title and mouseover text: There are a number of formatting options you can use for the body text, indicated by the icons above the text box. You can add bold text, italic text, bulleted lists, numbered lists and URL s to your text note. Alternatively, we support some basic html codes, such as and for creating subscript and superscript, or <font size="2" color="blue"> for changing font size and colour. Example: E=Mc2 This is the colour <font color="blue">blue</font> After you have finished writing your text note, you can select preview and save. Select preview to preview the note in your Schooltas book. Page 21 of 63

When you are satisfied with the note, click save. 5.3.4 Image in popup An image pin can consist of one image or multiple images which will be shown in a slideshow. You can add text to the image pins if you want, this text will then be shown to the right of the image in the pop-up Right-click the location where you want to add your pin, click Add new pin and then click Image in popup to add an image pin to the page. If you want to upload a new file, click upload new file. Select a file to upload an audio file from your computer. Browse for the audio file you want to add and select it. Add a title for the file (this will be the title shown in the database, not the title shown in the audio player in your Schooltas book) and select next. Page 27 of 63

Enter a title and a mouseover text, if desired or listen to the file in preview. Page 28 of 63

After you click preview, the audio will start playing automatically. If you want to pause it, click the pause button or click the x symbol to close the audio. When you are satisfied with the YouTube video, click save. 5.3.8 Link (URL) If you want to add a hyperlink to the page, select Link (URL) : Page 37 of 63

This screen will appear and you can enter the URL and an optional mouseover text: Select save and the link is added to the page. It appears on the page with this pin:. When customers select it, it automatically opens the linked page in a new tab. 5.4 Add new answer Answers are additions to the book and will only be visible to teachers. Teachers can use these to instruct the class and show the correct answers. You will recognize an answer by this pin:. When a teacher clicks an answer pin, the pin s contents will be shown. On the top left side of the Schooltas book, you can hide the answers again: Page 38 of 63

Right-click location on the page where you want to place your answer pin and select Add new answer. There are different types of answer pins: 1) Text (on page or in popup) 2) Shape 3) Image in popup 4) Audio 5.4.1 Text If you want to add the answer as a text, you can choose between two options: On page and In popup. Page 39 of 63

Texts can be placed directly on the page or displayed in a popup. For instance, you can add a text in the exercise of a workbook. Alternatively, if you need more space than your page allows, you can use a popup text that will appear as an overlay on the book. 5.4.1.1 On page Select On page. Click anywhere on the page and start typing in the box, as shown here: Adjust the line height or add background in the answer. Page 40 of 63

You can drag the text to the correct question and adjust the box size as much as needed. For the best effect it is recommended that you adjust each box to the width of the column for every answer, even if the text is less than one line. Select save when the answer is complete: Page 41 of 63

5.4.1.2 In popup The option popup is necessary if you need more space than the page allows. It will appear as an overlay on the book. Select In popup. Refer to 5.3.3 Text in popup for the rest of the steps. 5.4.2 Shape Shapes can only be added to the page and not as a popup. They can be useful for exercises where students have to circle an answer or draw on the page. If you want to add a shape, select Shape : Page 42 of 63

A pop-up appears on the right side of the page. Choose a colour (green, red or black) and drag the shape to the correct place on the page: Click save to save the answer. 5.4.3 Image in popup To add an image as an answer, select Image in popup. Page 43 of 63

Refer to 5.3.4 Image in popup for the rest of the steps. To view the answer image in popup, select the pin: View the pin and select done to return to the book. 5.4.4 Audio To add an audio file as an answer, select Audio. Page 44 of 63

Refer to 5.3.5 Audio for the rest of the steps. 5.5 Add new [internallink] You can create internal links in the pdf, which means you create a clickable bar in the pdf which links to another page. While this option is available, for the best results, we recommend using the internal links in the pdf itself, which are fully supported in Schooltas. For more information, see 3.1.2 Pdf requirements. To add an internal link, right-click and choose Add new [internallink]. Page 45 of 63

A blue shape appears on the page (see the left arrow in the screenshot above), which you can move to the correct location on the page. You can also adjust the width of the link. On the right-hand side, the Edit internal link menu appears. You can use this to enter the page number to link to, to change the line height of the internal link, to change the width of the link, to determine if you want to add an arrow next to the link for extra visibility or to underline the internal link with one of the available colours. You can also add an optional mouseover text to the link. 5.6 Add new image with hotspots This feature is only possible for paintings, drawings, and other art objects in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. You can zoom in on a certain spot in an image, a picture or a painting and add text. Schooltas will zoom in on that specific part of the image. Teachers can use it to give more background information about a certain person or object on the image in the book. To add a new image with hotspots, click right and choose Add new image with hotspots. Page 46 of 63

You can adjust the box on the page to the image in the Schooltas book. Select the colour of the icon and click next. Page 47 of 63

After that, you will see this screen. You will need to browse the collection of the Rijksmuseum to find the image and object number. Therefore, click the link as pointed out down below. Go to the website of the Rijksmuseum. Describe the image that you are looking for as detailed as possible. Pick the image you want and click More details : Page 48 of 63

Scroll down and look for the object number. Select and copy it. Enter the object number and select next : Add an optional title and mouseover text. Page 49 of 63

Left-click a spot on the image, give it a title and write down the information you want to add. After that select Save changes. You can see the green box on the page in your Schooltas book. By clicking the box, you see the image up close and find the hotspot. When the eye is closed nothing, will show up on the page, but when you open it, you can find the hotspot. Page 50 of 63

Click the circle. Schooltas zooms in and you can read the background information. 5.8 Add link to another book The (hyper)link to another book can be placed in a link (URL) pin or in a text pin. To create this link, you will need the book ID of the Schooltas book you want to link to. This book ID can be found in the book information. Go back to Books, find the book you want to link to and select Details. Page 51 of 63

Alternatively, the book ID is visible in your browser s URL bar when you have the book open. 5.8.1 Link (URL) pin Right-click the location where you want to add your pin, click Add new pin and then click Link [URL] to add a link pin to the page. A screen will appear and you can enter the URL and an optional mouseover text. To link to another book, the URL should be built up as follows: mijn.schooltas.net/book# Schooltas book ID comma + page number (optional) For example: mijn.schooltas.net/book#0d1d41cc-2a19-4588-bc6c-c00d732e5a51,10 When using a page number, please note that Schooltas will link to the spreads page, not the single book page. This means that if you link to page 10 in the URL (as in the example above), the link will go to spread 10, which corresponds to pages 18-19 in most books. Click save and the link pin is added to the page. When users click on the link, the linked book automatically opens in a new tab. Page 52 of 63

5.8.2 Text in popup pin To add the linked book in a text pin, right-click the location where you want to add your pin, click Add new pin and then click Text in popup. An edit bar opens on the right side of the screen, where you can insert a URL. To link to another book, the URL should be built up as follows: mijn.schooltas.net/book# Schooltas book ID comma + page number (optional) Example: mijn.schooltas.net/book#0d1d41cc-2a19-4588-bc6c-c00d732e5a51,10 When using a page number, please note that Schooltas will link to the spreads page, not the single book page. This means that if you link to page 10 in the URL (as in the example above), the link will go to spread 10, which corresponds to pages 18-19 in most books. Page 53 of 63

Click save and the text pin is added to the page. When customers click the pin and the link, it opens the linked book in a new tab. 5.9 Edit pins After adding a pin, you can edit the pin s contents or move the pin. Right-click the pin. A pop-up appears. Choose the first option, in this case Edit text. You can now move the pin using the left mouse button. You can also edit the pin s content. Click save when you have finished editing. 5.10 Delete pins You can delete the pins you added to your Schooltas books. Right-click the Enrichment symbol or Answer symbol. A pop-up appears: Page 54 of 63

You can create a license with only one book or a license with multiple books. Sometimes, it is easier to create one license with multiple books, for example, for a group of customers who all need the same books. 6.1 Create a book license Go to the Schooltas Dashboard and click Go to my licenses. Page 55 of 63

A list with your licenses appears. Click Create Books license in the left-hand menu to create a new license. 6.1.1 Create license: step 1/2 In step 1/2, you will see a list of books that you can add to the bundle. By clicking Add next to a book, the book will be added to the license. You can add as many books as needed or just one. Page 56 of 63

For books that have been added to the license, the Add button changes to a Remove button. Click Remove to remove a previously added book from the license. After all desired books have been added to the license, click Next : 6.1.2 Create license: step 2/2 In step 2/2 you can finalise the license. Enter the License name. This is the title that users will see when activating a license. Schooltas will randomly generate a license code. The Maximum users field determines how many users can use the license. Page 57 of 63

Enter the License duration or the Expiration date of the license. You cannot enter both. If you want to enter a License duration you will manually need to set the License duration to the blank option. Click Save to save the license. The license overview appears: Page 58 of 63

If you need to know which books are in a certain license or to find out the code of a license, you can always return to this overview by clicking Licenses and then Book licenses. Click the license name to open the license details for that license. 6.2 Edit a book license If you want to change the book license name, the maximum users and/or the license duration, you can. Please note that any changes you make to the license will only apply to users who have not activated the license yet. Open a license by clicking the code: Page 59 of 63

6.3 Create a teacher license Schooltas offers additional functionality for teachers. Teachers can view answer pins in books (if added by the publisher), create classes, review their students homework and play wordwebs. To do this, teachers need to upgrade their Schooltas account to a Schooltas teacher account. For this, they need a special activation code, which we call the teacher license. If you want to generate teacher license codes for your teacher customers, click Licenses and then Teacher licenses : A list with your created teacher licenses appears. Click Create teacher license in the left-hand menu to create a new license. Enter the license name (e.g. Teacher license ) and the maximum amount of users you want to be able to use the license code: Page 61 of 63

Click Save. The license is saved and a license code is generated for the teacher license. Give the license code to your teacher users so they can activate their teacher account tools in Schooltas. 7 Reports Click the Reports tab to view monthly reports about licenses and license activations in Schooltas.
