About these release notes These release notes provide a list of new features, known issues, and other important last-minute information applicable to using Matrox Mtx.utils version 2.0.1. Matrox Mtx.utils 2.0.1 provides the following improvement for working with Matrox sequences in Adobe Premiere Pro: Updating of the render bar has been improved to better indicate the realtime playback capabilities of clips in your Matrox sequences. If you have problems updating Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 If you try to update Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to a later version with Matrox Mtx.utils installed on your computer, you may receive a message that the update was unsuccessful. If this happens, you should temporarily stop the Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins. To do this, right-click the icon on your Windows taskbar and choose Exit. You can then run the Adobe Premiere Pro updater again. To restart the Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins, choose Start > All Programs > Matrox Mtx.utils > Matrox WYSIWYG Control Panel. If the Premiere Pro update is still unsuccessful after you ve stopped the Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins, you ll have to uninstall Matrox Mtx.utils, update your Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and then re-install Matrox Mtx.utils. 2 Known issues Please be aware of the following issues when using Matrox MXO2 products with Matrox Mtx.utils version 2.0.1: Installation and general operation When installing Matrox Mtx.utils on a Windows 7 system, you may receive a message that some device drivers have not been installed successfully. You can ignore this message, as the device drivers will be successfully installed once the Mtx.utils installation is complete. (Ref# 52208) The connector labelled RS422 on Matrox MXO2, MXO2 Rack, and MXO2 LE is not supported. If your MXO2 hardware was not connected to your computer when you installed Matrox Mtx.utils on a Windows XP system, you will need to locate the MXO2 drivers manually when you connect your MXO2 hardware for the first time. By default, the drivers are located at C:\Program Files\Matrox Mtx.utils\system\drivers. (Ref# 50711) If you installed Matrox Mtx.utils without your Matrox MXO2 hardware connected to your computer, you may experience problems trying to use your MXO2 system when you connect your MXO2 hardware for the first time. If this happens, restart your system. (Ref# 51673) Matrox NTSC and 480p uncompressed 8-bit and 10-bit.avi files created using software included with this Mtx.utils release are not supported on a Matrox Axio or RT.X2 system. (Ref# 50404) On a Windows Vista system, Matrox uncompressed clips (8- or 10-bit) may not play back in Windows Media Player. (Ref# 43314) When using dual monitors with an NVIDIA display card, you must make sure certain settings are applied in order to display video in a window on your computer screen, such as with Premiere Pro s Source and Program Monitors. You must set the nview Display Mode to Horizontal Span. (Ref# 31691 & 35591). When installing the Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins on a system that is not English, such as a Japanese system, you may need to install some of the WYSIWYG plug-ins manually. To do this, click the Browse button and go to the appropriate Plug-ins folder. (Ref# 40459) Adobe Photoshop CS4 does not support Matrox.avi files. (Ref# 51248) You may not be able to play back a Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame HD clip in Windows Media Player or a Video for Windows application. If this occurs, try uninstalling or updating your non-matrox Video for Windows codecs. (Ref# 41899) Known issues
3 You may have problems capturing material from certain composite and S-Video sources using your MXO2 system, in particular from low-quality VCRs. For a workaround to this issue, see the topic Analog Capture Issues in Premiere CS4 & Matrox A/V Tools on the Matrox MXO2 User Forum at www.matrox.com/video/en/support/windows/mxo2/forum/. (Ref# 51832) Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox MXO2 If your capture format is set to Matrox AVI and you adjust the options for Adobe serial device control from the Capture panel, Premiere Pro may become unresponsive. As a workaround, instead of adjusting the device control options from the Capture panel, choose Edit > Preferences > Device Control, and click Options. (Ref# 51568) To avoid problems when capturing clips, rendering previews, or exporting your sequence to disk, make sure that the total length of your Premiere Pro project s folder path name and file name is not longer than 128 characters. (Ref# 49841). If you change the name of a clip in the Save Captured Clip dialog box, the name of the captured Matrox.avi file will be changed accordingly, but you ll have to manually rename the associated.wav files. (Ref# 50317) If you chose to overwrite an existing clip when you capture to a Matrox.avi file, the.avi file will be overwritten but the associated.wav files will be saved to new.wav files that have default clip names. You ll need to manually delete the original.wav files and rename the new.wav files to match the associated.avi file. (Ref# 50318) If you cancel a capture to a Matrox.avi file, the captured.avi file will be deleted, but any associated.wav files won t be deleted. You ll need to delete the.wav files manually. (Ref# 50319) If you choose to capture a video source for which a video input signal is not detected from your Matrox MXO2 hardware, the input signal may display as blue video (instead of black video). (Ref# 50156) The first time you capture a Matrox.avi file using Adobe Premiere Pro after installing Matrox Mtx.utils, you need to configure your Matrox.avi capture settings. To do this, choose Project > Project Settings > General. From the Capture Format list, select Matrox AVI and click Configure. (Ref# 50243) When using Adobe Premiere Pro s DV/HDV device control, make sure that your device is properly connected. Otherwise, you may get a high memory usage warning and Adobe Premiere Pro may issue an error. (Ref# 43590 & 50360) Known issues
4 When you select 24-bit as your Capture Format on the Audio Capture Settings page, your audio files are captured in 24-bit format, but Premiere Pro will display the properties of the audio files as 32-bit. (Ref# 50379) Adding a voice-over to your Matrox sequence using MXO2 is not supported for this release. (Ref# 50878 & 50788) When you export an NTSC or PAL clip using the Matrox DV/DVCAM Video for Windows codec, your clip may appear darker after the export. As a workaround, use Adobe Premiere Pro s DV NTSC or DV PAL codec to export your NTSC or PAL clips to DV format. (Ref# 50460) To work with PAL DV clips on Matrox MXO2, you must select a Matrox DV-PAL sequence preset. This sequence is for working with PAL DV clips only (Matrox DV clips as well as Adobe native DV clips). To use Matrox PAL DV clips that you created on a Matrox Axio or RT.X2 system in your Matrox sequence on MXO2, you must import them into a Matrox DV-PAL sequence, and use the Interpret Footage command to change their field order to Lower Field First. (Ref# 50246) When you export a Matrox PAL sequence to MPEG-2 format for DVD using Adobe Media Encoder, set the Field Order to Upper under Basic Video Settings in the Export Settings dialog box. Otherwise, your export may be blurry. (Ref# 51007) Matrox A/V Tools If you are running multiple instances of Matrox A/V Tools, the main analog video output specified in the active A/V Tools session will be used as the main analog video output of the other instances of A/V Tools that are running. For example, if you open a session of A/V Tools and select Composite from the Output Type list under Analog Output (Main), all other open instances of A/V Tools will automatically output a composite signal. (Ref# 50865) Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins The Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins support 32-bit applications only (64-bit applications are not supported). (Ref# 50045) Adobe Photoshop may crash if you export a.tga clip with CMYK 16-bit color to the Matrox WYSIWYG preview. (Ref# 44661) The Matrox WYSIWYG Control Panel will crash if you repeatedly change the project format when playing back a clip. (Ref# 41834) If you switch any of the settings in the Matrox WYSIWYG Control Panel when using Adobe Photoshop, your video may not update automatically on your video monitor. In order to preview your video with your new settings, choose File > Export > Matrox WYSIWYG Preview. (Ref# 50455) Known issues
5 Matrox MAX H.264 encoding (MAX option) When using the Matrox Export tab instead of Adobe Media Encoder to export an Adobe Premiere Pro sequence to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, the Use Preview Files option will be ignored. (Ref# 52422) If you scale your source video when exporting to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, the output frame size on the Source tab and the video preview and output frame size on the Output tab of the Export Settings dialog box may not be updated correctly. This issue, however, does not affect your exported file. (Ref# 51511) To avoid problems with playing back Matrox.mp4 files on Apple devices, make sure that you have the latest software update available for your device from Apple. (Ref# 51631) When you export an Adobe Premiere Pro sequence that has chapter markers to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, the chapter markers are not exported and therefore won t be available when you import your exported file to Adobe Encore. (Ref# 51780) You may notice a slight color shift between your original source video and your exported Matrox MAX H.264 files when you import and play them back from your Adobe Premiere Pro sequence. However, the correct color space conversion has been applied to your Matrox MAX H.264 files, and they will have the correct color when played back on a Blu-ray Disc player or mobile device, such as an Apple ipod or iphone. (Ref# 51465) Importing Matrox MAX H.264 files or other H.264 files to Adobe Encore on a Windows 7 system can cause Encore to freeze and your system to become unstable. To solve this issue, Adobe suggests that you install an updated version of the PX Engine, which is available from the Support section of the Roxio website at www.roxio.com (see knowledgebase article 000070GN). As well, make sure that you ve disabled the Windows sleep functions as described in your Matrox documentation. (Ref# 53282) Known issues
