Drawing Lines 5.4 Inserting Pictures and Text Boxes 5.5 Inserting Movies and Sounds Aligning Objects After inserting a few objects, you may like to align them to the left, right, top, bottom, center (vertically) or middle (horizontally). First, press and hold down Shift key and select the objects one by one. Then click Draw on the Drawing toolbar and point to Align or Distribute. Choose the preferred mode of alignment and the objects will align accordingly.
Inserting Objects 5. Inserting AutoShapes, WordArts and ClipArts Inserting AutoShapes AutoShapes are groups of shapes available to use easily. They include Basic Shapes, Lines, Block Arrows, Flowchart, Stars and Banners and Callouts, etc. To insert AutoShapes, click on the Standard toolbar to open Drawing toolbar, then: Click AutoShapes. Open the menu and choose the shape you need. Move the mouse pointer to where the shape should be place. Then drag the mouse to draw the shape to the appropriate size. You may insert text into the AutoShapes. Right-click on the shape and choose Add Text on the shortcut menu. Then you can enter the text. Inserting WordArts One can add special effect to the text with the following steps: Click on the Drawing toolbar. Choose a style from the WordArt Gallery and click OK to confirm. 4 Enter the text in the Edit WordArt Text dialog box. 4 Then set the font, size and style, click OK to confirm. To open the WordArt Gallery, one can also open the Insert menu, point to Picture and choose WordArt from the submenu. 5
Microsoft Office 000 Fundamentals When WordArt is inserted into the document, the WordArt toolbar will appear automatically. WordArt is a drawing object that cannot be found and replaced like normal text in the document. Inserting ClipArts Microsoft ClipArt Gallery includes lots of elements that can help you to produce a lively document. To insert objects from the ClipArt Gallery: Click on the Drawing toolbar and the Insert ClipArt dialog box will appear. Choose the category and click on a clipart. Click on the menu. 4 Click of the Insert ClipArt dialog box to close. 4 The chosen clipart should be inserted into the document. On the Insert menu, point to Picture and choose ClipArt from the submenu. You can also open the Insert ClipArt dialog box in this way. 6
Inserting Objects 5. Changing Object Position, Size and Colour Moving an Object Point at the object and the mouse pointer will change into.then you can drag the object and move it around. Note that a dotted frame will appear and follow your motion. When you release the mouse, the object will be moved to this location. Press and hold Alt key can drag and move the object smoothy. Changing Object Position, Size and colour Adjusting Object Size When you select an object, 8 tiny squares will appear around it. They are handles to adjust the size of the object. Point at the tiny square and the mouse pointer will change into. Then drag the handle and the size of the object will change accordingly. To keep the length to width proportion when you change the object size, you may press and hold down the Shift key when you drag the control handle. Changing Object Colour To change the object colour, do the following steps: Select the object you would like to change the colour. Click the arrow head of on the Drawing toolbar. Choose your favorite color. If you cannot find your favorite colour from the list, click More Fill Colors. Choose the colours from Standard tab in the Colors dialog box; or click Custom tab to tune the colour you want. Click OK to confirm. 7
Microsoft Office 000 Fundamentals 5. Drawing Lines Drawing lines Drawing and Editing Lines Click AutoShapes on the Drawing toolbar and point to Lines. Select and click on the document to locate the starting point of the line. After that, click on the second point of the curve line, then click on the third point and so on. When you come to the end of the line, double-click and a line will be created. Click on the Drawing toolbar to set the thickness of the line. Click to give a dotted line. Click to give different arrow heads to the line. Right-click on the line and choose Edit Points from the shortcut menu. Then the line is changed into the points editing mode. You may move the points or click on the line and drag the mouse to add a new point onto the line. The shape of the line will change accordingly. Right-click on the line again and choose Straight Segment from the shortcut menu. Then the line segment will change into a straight line. To change line segment into a curve, choose Curved Segment from the shortcut menu. 8
Inserting Objects 5.4 Inserting Pictures and Text Boxes Inserting a Picture Open Insert menu and point to Picture, click From File. Then Insert Picture dialog box will appear. Choose the picture stored in the computer and then click Insert to insert the picture into the document. Cropping a Picture To crop a picture, select the picture first and then click on the Picture toolbar. Drag a control handle of the picture to where the picture would be cropped. Note that the dotted frame shows how the picture is cropped when you release the mouse. Press and hold down the Alt key to move freely when you drag the control handle. Picture Layout When using Word, click on the Picture toolbar and choose Tight to wrap the picture with the text. If the picture has an irregular shape, you can also wrap the picture outline by applying Edit Wrap Points. Now, a red dotted line with control handles appear around the picture. The text will wrap according to the red dotted line. If you drag the control handle, it will change the frame region. And if you drag the red dotted line, a new control point will be added and adjust the frame to an appropriate location. Click Drawing on the Drawing toolbar and point to Order. Then choose Bring in Front of Text to put the text in front of the picture. 9
Microsoft Office 000 Fundamentals Inserting Text Boxes Click on the Drawing toolbar. Then drag your mouse in the document to draw a rectangular area. A text box will be created in the document. To put the existing text in the document into a text box, first select the text, and then click on the Drawing toolbar. The text will be moved into a text box. Removing the Border of the Text Box Select the text box and click the arrow heard of on the Drawing toolbar. Select No Line and then click on the area outside the text box. You will find that the border of the text box disappears. When using Word, you may change the orientation of the text in a text box. Open the Format menu and choose Text Direction. In the Text Direction dialog box, you may select the appropriate orientation of the text, as you like. Creating Text Box Link Draw a new text box. Then select the original text box and click on the Text Box toolbar. You may create a link from it to the new blank text box to continue the text flow. When the mouse pointer changes into the shape of a water flask, move it to the blank text box and the flask will turn into. Now click here and you will find that the text of the original text box is linked to the new text box. 40
Inserting Objects 5.5 Inserting Movies and Sounds Inserting Sounds into a Slide Display the PowerPoint slide in the Outline mode. Then insert sounds into it in the following way: Open the Insert menu. Point to Movies and Sounds. To insert sound from the ClipArt Gallery, click Sound from Gallery ; to insert a sound file stored at another location, click Sound from File. Inserting movies and sounds If you have chosen Sound from File, the Insert Sound dialog box will come up. Locate the sound file from the computer and click OK to insert. A sound icon appears in the slide showing that a sound file is being inserted. You can move and resize this icon. In the process, you can also choose whether to play the sound automatically in the slide show or only to play when you click it. The step of inserting movie into a slide is the same as inserting sound. You can open the Insert menu and point to Movies and Sounds. To insert movie from the ClipArt Gallery, click Movie from Gallery ; to inert a movie file, click Movie from File. 4
